I don't even know why we went into this bar. . We were walking through town and were thirsty so we figured we'd pop in for a quick drink. Before we even opened the door it gave off dark and gloomy vibes. They have several tables outside that are under a canopy. We entered the bar and it was dark and depressing. There was a pool table to the left and a number of people seated at a small bar. The bartender looked exhausted and barely grunted at a customer when he asked for a beer. A few chairs down two men were arguing with each other with one telling the other he should send his wife to the adult store for a dildo because she needs it and the other responding that he was crossing a line. They were arguing when we left. We ordered a drink and went outside to the patio, had our drinks and left. Lol I don't know what to say about this place except to describe what I saw. Small and very dark with some interesting people. I can't tell if it was a hangout for the locals or the people in the motel that it was attached to. I can't imagine it's in the top 50 places to grab a drink when visiting downtown Hyannis. But if you're hiding from someone it might be the perfect spot to have a drink indoors. read more

This place is your typical dive bar & if that's what you are looking for or expecting when you walk in, then this is your spot. It's our second night popping in for a late night drink. The place is busy, A rectangular bar in the center with every bar stool filled with locals. They also have a pool room with people hanging out & playing. When the weather cooperates you can hang outside. They have plenty space with different sections outside facing the Main Street. The cheapest beers by far in the whole of Cape Cod. They also have TV's and Jukeboxes along with a pinball machine. The people are nice, they all know each other and there are few tourists here. So go with an open mind and have fun. read more

It's exactly what you think it is when you walk in. It's a local pub and not at all touristy. Not typically a place I'd review, but noticed it's getting a ton of hate and wanted to share my experiences. This is our third or fourth year spending a few hours at the pub during a bar tour of Hyannis and it's a great break from the normal spots. Play some pinball, drink some really cheap beer, try your luck at Keno, and chat about whatever with the regulars who are always there inside. It can look unappealing at times, but if small divey bars are your thing, or you at least need a break from the places charging $10 for a Sam, it's a fine spot to have a few poured. read more

Terrible. We love dive bars sat there five mins not acknowledgement. Left and went back, wasn't allowed in because they were at capacity.... there was maybe forty people inside. We spend alot and were new to the cape also staying right at hotel attached so they did it wrong , their lose. Portside Tavern was wayyyy batter! read more

Fun place to eat on the main drag in Hyannis. Raucous place, outside seating available (covered by a tent like structure), also features a cool inside bar area and some "average" looking indoor seating. Great place to eat and people watch. Bar area has TV's to catch a Sox game. Yelp has defined this as a Pub - I believe it is more of a bar/restaurant which has entertainment at various times. I've updated the listing. A mix of folks, locals at the bar, families with kids on vacation, retirees on vacation, etc. We eat here on vacation all the time. On July 4th we ate there - I heartily recommend the lobster roll, served with fries and coleslaw. It was amazing. My fussy daughter loved the perfectly cooked dog on the New England style roll. We went back for a quick dinner on Saturday the 5th (before the fireworks in Hyannis) and had a less pleasant experience. I ordered the BLT wrap and they said that the wraps are "off the menu". Jeez, just print some new ones. I had the clam plate and the clams were just so/so (my own fault, they are just starting to run again after a local red tide) and the fries were horribly soggy. Our Russian server was cute but could barely speak English and was completely inattentive - I was crabby and could have used another gin and tonic!. I consider this visit an aberration as my other 5 visits have been super - perhaps the local crowd for the fireworks taxed this place to capacity. On Saturday night they had a singer/guitar player playing in the bar area. My daughter enjoys eating here, particularly because we buy Mass Scratch off lottery tickets and play while we wait for the food to come. This year she won $30 - while I was the big winner with $100 on the Red Sox scratch off game! Lots of folks drink at the bar and play the Mass Keno game. Prices are "ok" and service tends to be spotty. Parking on the street and I believe behind in private lot. Good for families with kids, but I would vote not good for groups... I can't imagine trying to get a seat for 8 on a hot and crowded summer day. read more

This place was horrible to me and my friends. They did not let us (freshly 21 year olds) in, because they insisted that our friend was not 21. We told them we were of age and ever said to call the cops so they could scan it but they refused. Go anywhere but here. They do not deserve your business. They were very rude when we left as well. If I could give it less that one star I would. People can excuse away bad, rude, arrogant, nasty behavior all they want b/c it's a "dive bar", but I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy. We stopped in b/c we heard the music and thought it would be fun - nothing could be further from the truth. The bartender was nasty, incompetent, and clearly didn't give a damn. This place is a DUMP. Do yourself a favor and cross the street to the British Beer Company. The food is good, the drinks are great, and the staff don't look and act like they just escaped from prison. read more

Went here with a friend who was from out of town. The mood was fun and we enjoyed a good late afternoon of day drinking into the night for at least four hours. At around 9 PM a guy sat down across the bar from us several seats over. After ordering his drink and without any prior interaction he immediately began throwing insults across the bar at me and moments later at my female friend. Initially we ignored him but the situation escalated while the bars management did nothing to confront the belligerent individual. We left for the patio to take a few minutes to get away from him and let the situation cool down, Upon returning we were told we were the problem by the bartender and that we had to leave. All of this despite the fact that we had been there for hours making friends the entire night. The bartenders words exactly were "I don't remember that". Later learned the individual is a regular who is well known to the area for similar issues. Management needs to grow a spine and confront belligerent individuals, regulars or not. read more

Pretty decent dive bar on Main Street Hyannis. Close to all the other bars/shops/etc in the area. Cheap prices and good specials. Keno, a few games and juke box ( they seem to have some form of live music each night) to keep you busy. Some of the patrons are haggard looking but that's what you want at a true dive bar. People worse off then yourself. It's part of the dive bar charm. Bathrooms are creepy and dirty. But again, part of the charm at a true dive bar. Bartenders seem nice enough. Heard the owner was a dirt bag (looks like the bar owner in the 80's teen flick Porky's), again also part of a true dive bar charm. This is the best dive bar on cape cod. You walk in and are greeted by the friendliest bartenders and down to earth people. They always have some sort of event going on, and they have karaoke 2 nights a week! The bartender, Johnny is so sweet and very attentive. Molly and Kelly are awesome too and always have a great attitude. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a cool dive bar. read more

So i asked any ipa's-no, then how bout any pa's, like sierra nevada-no. Ok just tell me the good beers, she started with coors light... And then the only crazy was guiness... I'll have a water. Duck Inn On a recent visit to Hyannis we were looking for a friendly café. We were already tired of stuffy formal business dinners. Walking on Main St. we found the Duck Inn. What a find! Comfortable atmospheres; I guess picturesque is a better description. In talking with the wait-staff; we learned that the restaurant is under new management as of Memorial Day 2012. The cuisine is Pub-Food; or sandwiches, finger foods, chili, chowders & the like with a definite New England twist. They have a full bar including interesting things like Jell-O-Shots. If you're tired of bland Denny's fair or Subway, this is the place for you. If I wasn't on the West-Coast I'd be a regular there. read more

Clearly no one who has eaten here recently has written a review. Stay VERY far away!! My parents and I had a very late, very large lunch and were looking for a bite to eat. It was around 8:30 p.m. on a Friday night and we were having a hard time finding a restaurant that would not only seat us immediately, but would let me parents order desert while I ordered actual food that didn't consist of refined carbs. The Duck Inn Pub had an empty patio and a very basic menu, but they also said they had cheesecake. We of course found this out after standing in the doorway for several minutes and then asking a busboy if we could sit on the patio, since none of the staff even acknowledged us. After waiting almost 10 minutes we were given menus and had our drink order taken. I ordered a plain burger and asked the waitress to omit the bun. She seemed to have a hard time understanding this so I didn't even bother asking to have a side salad instead of french fries. My mom ordered the cheesecake the waitress said they had, but then she said she had to go check and make sure they actually had it. She came back with one of those Sam's Club cheesecakes with about four different flavors, pre-cut and in the sealed container and asked my mom to pick one. She brought it out on a plate and decorated it with whip cream. About ten minutes later she brings me a cheeseburger on a bun. We had to flag her back down and tell her it was the wrong item. She was again confused and thought that's what I ordered because she wrote it down, but I reminded her I asked for a plain burger with no bun. She brought that out and it was a perfectly ordinary pre-made patty with fake grill marks and fake smoke flavor that had been heated up on the grill. I wasn't expecting excellence, but at almost $9 even for a resort town it's very overpriced. I shudder to think what the $11 lobster roll is like here. Also, when we got the bill we saw that she entered the burger as "American burger" which is not an item on the menu, but lead us to believe this is why the kitchen put a slice of American cheese on it. We tried to confirm we weren't being charged for a cheeseburger and kind of gave up, it wasn't worth the hassle. The only enjoyable part of this experience was sitting out on the patio since it was a beautiful night. Also being outside saved us from listening to the god-awful karaoke DJ inside belt out Dust in the Wind at full volume. I would venture to say that this might be one of the worst places to eat on Main St. I should also note than in the time we were seated, we witnessed a group of eight get up and leave because no one came and helped them after waiting over ten minutes and the family seated behind us regretted not leaving as well. Again, this was a Friday night. Letting that party of eight go un-helped, all of whom were in their 20's and probably going to order a few rounds of drinks is practically criminal in the restaurant industry. read more

My husband and I accidentally stumbled upon this place when we tried to go next door to Embargo, but they weren't open yet.. We were just walking around Main Street and wanted to have a drink or two. When we walked in, we quickly realized this was 'dive bar' fun we were about to embark on. Okay, we're game.... bunch of older guys at the bar, looked like locals and definitely some drunk people on the other side of the bar. Hannah, our bartender, was an absolute doll! She seemed totally out of place to be in a dive like this, but she was attentive and made us a couple of really good drinks... We talked to some of the people in there, it was quite interesting and a very laid back atmosphere... think 'Cheers' if everyone in Cheers was totally drunk at 3:30 in the afternoon... lol. All in all, a fun place to hang for a little while and drink. We'd go back. read more

This has quickly became my favorite place! The atmosphere is relaxed, the drinks are great and the potato skins rock. We stumbled upon this place during our mini-vacation and ended up spending both nights here! They have live music, tv's to catch the game & outgoing staff. This truly is a local's gem. read more

I ate here with my husband for lunch on Friday of last week. The waiter was great and the food was probably the best food that I would eat my entire vacation. My girlfriend and I stayed at the Cape Cod Inn which ajoins the Duck Bar. Had a great night there our first night and the bartender was very nice and accommodating. Go the very next night after having dinner and some drinks next door at another restaurant. And soon as we sat down he refused to serve us, claims we were to drunk to serve. Although all the locals in there were clearly loud and much more drunk than us. Told him we were staying 30 feet from our room. Said he didn't care, told him your losing business for no reason. He was a complete douche bag! I sat there the night before and saw everyone drunk and being beleaguered. He clearly was being discriminate toward us as visitors just trying to vacation and have a good time. Don't waste your time going to this bar unless your a local. Obviously they do not won't tourists interrupting there Good time or innercicle! Don't waste your money here! Plenty other places in the area that treat you much better and appreciate you visiting there establishment! read more

I rate this in the middle... Location is great Outside seating is great Food isn't good, the turkey dinner is bad, I didn't expect great, or even good, but it was bad, and I eat anything. I didn't finish the dinner and got a burger, it was really good. Friends got wings and a spinach dip and didn't like either. I like the place and wish it would be better. This is a local dive in every sense of the word. The bar food is bar food so no surprise there. The drinks were mediocre. The atmosphere was exactly what you expect looking in from the street. It's dark. Dirty. And not friendly in the least. If the drunk locals didn't drive us out, the elderly British woman proclaiming "over the hill, no need for the pill" certainly would have. If not for the caliber of surrounding bars and the plethora of other options I'd rate the duck higher. read more

Rude, surly staff, snobby, snotty and condescending. Actively discriminating against the disabled--if you walk in on crutches or a cane, or wheel in in a wheelchair, be prepared to be ignored. Ask ten times for service, and you may get someone to see to you once--if you are lucky. I do not recommend this place, there are many others nearby that are much nicer and more welcoming to all patrons--not just the ones in cashmere sweaters and overpriced slacks. read more

I hope that everyone notices the comment under that long, negative post. The DIP is totally different starting in Spring 2012, and one of the most fun unique places on main street. I started going in July and like to go about once a week. Especially fun if you are partial to live entertainment in a cozy intimate setting. No cover charge and low drink prices, with good casual food. What more would you want? Go a few times and it will become a place "where everyone knows your name". Best dive bar on the Cape, a Main Street staple. Actually looks much nicer since it was updated, but kept that classic wooden bar which I love. Relaxed atmosphere and dimly lit. Drinks are cheap and they have some good food deals. I'd stick with the apps and they're half price at certain times which is a plus. Solid musical acts, but I prefer the jukebox which has infinite options. Outdoor patio for the summer and a cozy fireplace lounge for the colder months. This is a great spot, whether you want to pop in for a drink or settle in for a couple hours. read more
