Came back because I had a terrible experience at the pharmacy. The pharmacy closes at 8p and I got there maybe 10 minutes before because I had a work event and there was an incident on the train that delayed my train dramatically. I needed my prescription because the next morning I was having surgery and I wouldn't be able to walk to get the medication I needed after it. I waited for maybe 5 mins on a line while the techs just looked at me. It was until The pharmacist told them to take me where they finally got it. The women at the counter had such nasty attitudes. Huffing and puffing because they had to do their jobs, just tossing the medication on the counter. It wasn't a welcoming experience at all and the only reason I come to this pharmacy is because it's close by. If you can't provide proper customer service especially in medicine, go find another job. Don't take it out on the customer. Sad to say but it really be your own people. read more

I did not get his name, but he's black, possibly from Africa, with noticeable accent. this person shouldn't work in the healthcare field that interacts with the public. Don't try to call the Pharmacy and get help. I have been on hold hearing the person answer my call and put the phone down without answering. I had questions about my medications. This is the 6th time I have called. I literally was on hold for 35 minutes. And finally hung up. Awful! read more

Good luck trying to reach a live pharmacist on the phone. I was hold for 20 mins. Someone picked up multiple times but put me back on hold without even saying hello. Eventually the line dropped. This has happened on multiple occasions when I try to call them. I would go somewhere else, but they are my neighborhood pharmacist. When I've gone to the actual location, the people there are nice. It's just seems like maybe it's an unfortunate New York City Customer Service standard to NOT help people over the phone??? And the automated is not always the most helpful. If I can give zero starts, I would. The pharmacy staff is rude, does not know what they are doing , and most of all HATE working there and it's palpable. Their automatic system does not work at all. I called in a prescription through their automatic system and once again it doesn't go through and was told that I was better off calling and speaking to someone (they don't pick up the phone to save their lives) I asked if they had a helpdesk they could call to make sure that the automatic system works. was told they "don't do that, we don't call". I finally spoke to the District Manager Imtiaz Hhq and he was lying to me as well. So going to the District Manager didn't work. The Very Rude Employees cheats The Elderly People, who have The OTC (Over The Counter) Card, issued by The Health Insurance Providers. You pick an item off the shelve, take note of the price, and make your way to The Cash Register. By the time you have walked from the isle to checkout, the price has risen by $3. 00. Twice in two days, at one in Manhattan at 145th & Bradhurst Street and one in Brooklyn at 386 Fulton Street. The Cashier argues like you are The Criminal. No, The Scan on The Cash Register can tell no lie. But that is not the worse part of your shopping experience with The Duane Reade Pharmacy Stores. When you attempt to return the item, you are met with a Great Red Wall of Resistance. At 386 Fulton Street, I bought a Buy One Get One Free Item. At The Genuine Walgreens Store in Queens, the same product was half the price cheaper. So I bought that item and returned the one from The Brooklyn Store. I was told that I needed ID. My NYCID Card was not acceptable. I needed A Passport, A Drivers License, or a New York State ID Card. I was told to drop the items off at any of The Walgreens / Duane Reade Pharmacy Stores nearest to you. I went to Two Stores in Manhattan; The First told me my NYCID froze their Computer. The Next Store told me straight up, 'We do not give refunds on The OTC Card used to make The Payment.' Back to The Original Store, in Brooklyn, I thought it was a gimmick until I saw a lady in front of me tried to exchange One Chocolate Bars for two. She was asked for ID. Well, she opened her mouth. She was told to go. There with me, they Scanned My New York State ID Card, front and back, they took My Biological Information and punch it in. Really, to get A Refund. I did not do all that at The Doctor's Office. Again at Manhattan 145th Street Duane Reade Pharmacy Store, I bought an item for $22. 99 on the price tag. The payment was $25. 99 with No Added Tax. It had $3. 00 added. Moreover $63. 14 was void and taken from My Reward Points Balance. I asked for a refund and My Reward Points Restored. I was told My NYCID Card, given by The City of New York, was invalid. Before then, up until March 2023, I had used The NYCID Card without major issues. To get a refund, all I needed was The Payment Receipt. So, hum. The Undocumented Persons, though taken into The American Society, will have a hard integration. The worst experience I've ever had at the Pharmacy in NYC. The stuff is rude, but it's the tip of the iceberg, because the real problem starts with the management. I got yelled at by Karim Ahmed, the pharmacy manager on duty. There was no line in the morning, and I don't understand why it was necessary for him to ignore me for 15 minutes passed my appointment time today, while he was looking at some t-shirts that his friend brought. That was not work related. Besides, after I inquired how much longer I had to wait, he told me It wasn't his problem that the store was understaffed and threw a Covid form at me to fill out. So rude. Duane Reade - The worst customer service experience. - Drugstores Near Me - New York, New York

The is one of the closest pharmacies near my home where I can pickup my prescriptions so it's the main reason I shop this location. Staffing is usually light so lines are long. Even with a prescription ready ahead of time, I still wait 10-15 minutes minimum. On a bad day 20-25 minutes. The store itself has a lot to offer for basic necessities and a small food section. The pricing on most items are cheaper than CVS so that's a plus. Signing up for the free balance rewards offers plenty of perks as well. If you don't have a Netflix account, they still offer Redbox movie rental in the front of the store. Overall, I'm satisfied with the products and pricing for this location but I'm underwhelmed by the customer service. read more

Okay, yes...this place does suck. Good luck if you use the pharmacy because they usually don't carry "rare" prescriptions so they have to order them...and even when they have stuff in stock, there seem to be a lot of issues with insurance and getting scripts filled in a timely manner... That being said, I do visit this pharmacy regularly for my prescriptions, about 1-2 times a week. While I have had a couple of issues, there are a couple of very nice pharmacists there who have stayed after the pharmacy is closed to help me. Now that I am a regular, they are very honest about when my medicines aren't available. There are still a couple of cashiers and people that work in there that are very rude and unprofessional...but I tend to tune them out . It's tough enough being sick and having to pay tons of money for prescriptions...so I just try to make going to this Duane Reade as painless as possible. read more

The customer service at this establishment has gone down hill. The management team as well as the staff need to be well aware that customers have the opportunity to go to any pharmacy in NYC and therefore they should value their customers and treat them with much more respect. My personal experience took place on Sunday 09/10/2019 when I was in the pharmacy line by 4:55 to pick up a prescription for a diabetic family member. By 4:57 I was advised that the female cashier at the pharmacy was "closed" after taking the female customer who was in front of me in line. I asked why this was and stated that it was not even 5pm yet (the time the pharmacy is set to close) I was told by an associate by the name of Tiana "Yeah but it will be 5pm by time she finishes with her" (her being the customer who was in front of me in the pick up line. With this being said I was denied the opportunity to pick up the needed prescription and though I could have arrived a bit early I assumed since pharmacy does not close u til 5pm that anyone in line deserved to be waited on until the clock hit 5pm I had previously picked up a few prescriptions of my own from this location but after seeing how the staff acts and carries out customer service I have moved all of my prescriptions to a different pharmacy, I will have my family members do the same and I truly encourage anyone reading this to also transfer their medication as well. I personally would like to thank Tiana who was present at the pharmacy at the time of the above mentioned event and Duane Reade for this experience which showed me to value my self as a customer and to take my business elsewhere where it will be valued and appreciated. Neighborhood realize on this store. It is very disheartening. Items that are needed are put behind alarm systems and no one will come to open the cases. The line at the pharmacy is incredibly slow set a time when six people should not be convening. Shopping carts are kept behind cashier counters leaving the public to juggle anything they want to purchase. Sadly it is poorly managed.Neighborhood deserves better service. read more

This rating is for the pharmacy. Whew! TL;DR - send your medications to the 135th Street location. I used them for years and will promptly return to them. This location's pharmacy has inconsistent hours and the staff never answers the phone. I had major surgery last week and called for 2-3 hours to try and arrange for a friend to pick up my pain meds for me. Since they never answered the phone, I had to walk several minutes there and back, praying I didn't have any accidents, as I had just had surgery 5 hours prior! You'll also receive an automated call, stating your meds are ready for pick up. However, on site, the staff won't be able to locate them and will even tell you they never received the prescript order! This happened to me more than once and to a poor woman who came in behind me last week. read more

This place isn't bad, but it does tend to be expensive. It doesn't really make sense to buy too many personal products here when there are other places like pathmark, deals and the internet at your disposal (all cheaper) but occasionally I do. There always tends to be a line that moves slowly here but it generally appears clean by the look if things. When I checked in here, I was picking up some photos. The online website is easy to use (just drag and drop or upload photos to an album). You can crop and resize items before you finalize your order (I would go through every item closely-one of my pictures was in the wrong orientation). The photos are ready pretty quickly and as compared to the rite aid I use in Washington heights normally for this-it was a lot more organized. Paying for my photos when I got there took longer than expected due to the cashier doing something for a coworker (still not sure what that was about) but they eventually stopped whatever it was so he could help me. He was very polite. After I left, I realized that my 5x7 pictures were not with the rest of my 4x6 photos so I had to go back (whomp). They found them pretty quickly and thank god I was still in the area when I noticed but that could have been a great inconvenience if I had of already left Harlem. I don't go here often but it's convenient for certain things. read more

This is by far the worst pharmacy I have been to in my entire life. Aside from being extremely rude and careless, they have either: A- LOST my prescription B-"Forgot" to fill it and did not call or try to contact me in the 3 days I left it there C-LIE to me about trying to call me regarding my prescription I too have left here in such frustration I was almost crying. They do not even say hello, rather roll their eyes when you approach the counter. How can a chain like this have such POOR service and TERRIBLE customer service??!! I tossed around giving them 1 star but wanted to be fair. If you buy things from the store itself, thumbs up. The pharmacy is another story altogether. I've used them for a couple of years and only had the occasional problem where they claimed my prescription was ready but I had to WAIT when I went to pick it up. One other thing I noticed that if I asked them to contact my doctor when I needed refills (using their site) - they NEVER did it. A few weeks ago was the turning point where I have now decided to go somewhere else. They had called me to leave a message saying that I had a pickup. I thought I had 2 but when I got there, they only gave me 1. I asked the clerk to check on the other one, but she was too put out to do any extensive research to see where it was. After schlepping all the way home and logging onto their site, I saw they had filled 2 things for me. I let a few hours pass (as I had other things to do) and when I went back... they couldn't find the 2nd prescription! I wait for them to re-do it. Then they tried to give me the same prescription that I had picked up already. I tell them it was the wrong one and had to wait for them to fill the correct one. I will go out of my way to find a better pharmacy that doesn't mind doing their job more efficiently. read more

This Duane Reade should just close all of their printing cabilities. No one is trained to operate the Epson printers, no one wants to, or can give you, any answer or reason on why your order is not ready. Of course this place is expensive as a mudda fugga, but compared to Pathmark a block away it makes this particular Duane Reade a dream come true. Things are easy to find, lines are typically short, and as a whole the place functions. The employees seem like they don't enjoy working here, but I wouldn't enjoy working here either. So I don't blame them for their aloof personalities. At least they help me find things when I ask where they are (unlike Pathmark where no one knows where a god damn thing is). And on one magical day I found a heater fan here for $20. Yeah, that's right. You can't beat that. Everything is expensive but there's still some good deals here once in a while. read more

I informed one that I was there for FedEx and he paged for "davon" to come to the front... This location is my go to for everything when I'm home. The pharmacy staff are okay. The lines during the later afternoon until nighttime are always long at the pharmacy and regular check out. The more gentrified and crowded this neighborhood becomes the longer the Times seem to be at this location. I only give it 4 Stars because it's my go to but with the crazy lines, it deserves 3 stars. read more

I come to DR if I need a couple things and absolutely do not want to stand in line at Pathmark just one block away. This place is EXPENSIVE... $19.99 for a twelve pack of Bud or Corona vs. $13.99 at Pathmark, need I say more? They more than obviously have a few scams going on. One thing that they do is overprice a national brand so that you buy the DR brand right next to it. In some cases, they won't even have the trusted national brand and they only sell the DR brand. Case in point, hand sanitizer. What drug store in their right mind doesn't have Purell? DR. But they will sell you the DR brand, which is right up by the cash register, and always somehow on sale. If something is Always on sale, that's it's regular price. This store recently expanded their food section, they have now reached "Bodega" status. You can get your trans fats, High Fructose Corn Syrup, and your drugs to ease the pain from a lifetime of eating bad foods all in one stop. The things I do like about this store? The people are really nice and helpful. It's neat, clean, well lit, and a quick in and out if you want to pay the prices. The deals, and the only thing that makes me walk through that door are: mostly the generic items. 8 rolls of paper towels, $5. 12 double rolls of TP, $5. Other things are eggs, $2.49, and chocolate. That's about it. Sometimes they do have a good deal on razors, then I stock up, but for the most part, it just costs too much. And as for the DR card? You pay well over $100 in excessive pricing to get that $5 bonus every couple of months. Just not worth it. read more

I've been coming here for 4 yrs and have no complaints except that the prices are higher than the other nearby options. If you want something cheaper, it's going to mean waiting at Deals in line for 15 min. with some grumpy people and sub par service. I have been visiting this Duane Reade Location for 11 years since I moved to Hamilton Heights. The customer service in this Pharmacy has gotten down. There are too many prescriptions to fill out and not enough people to process the prescriptions. The wait time is crazy. Always long lines and many times the cashiers at the pharmacy side are not friendly or seem upset. I decided to take my business to CVCs, hoping to get a friendlier and better service since my insurance pays a lot of money for my prescriptions. read more

I'm only giving this store one star because Yelp won't let me give none. If you're only shopping for groceries, you'll probably have a 2-3 star experience. It's a pretty standard Duane Reade, meaning they have almost everything you'd expect and the salespeople seem really unhappy and borderline rude. If you're filling a prescription, however, be prepared for one of the worst experiences of your life. They have made me cry. I'm not kidding; I don't cry at anything, and they have made me so frustrated there were tears. The pharmacists - especially the pharmacists, more than the normal salespeople - are amongst the rudest people I've ever met. Things they've done to me include: making me wait for a prescription that they said would just be a minute, only to yell at me 20 minutes later for waiting because they never had it in the first place; telling me that the drug that I needed would be in on Monday, then I find out on Tuesday that they never even ordered it; YELLING at me, often, when I ask questions. My "favorite" is the time that they only had like 10 pills left of what I needed (a full month is 60) so they filled it anyway and reported it to my insurance company as filled. I had to pay out of pocket for the rest of the month and get a new prescription. They had some excuse for why it wasn't their fault, but come on. Another time they said that I needed to call my insurance company for verification because they were too busy and it was MY drug, after all. So I had to stand at the counter with their phone while they chatted about their day. I could go on, but I've found it just easier to go to the Rite Aid on Broadway and to forget about these terrible people. read more

This is my first ever review on yelp and I am sorry to say that this had to be it. I agree with the other posters... its by FAR THE WORST PHARMACY IVE BEEN TO!!!!! Every time I go to the pharmacy they never fill my prescriptions when either I call it in or the doctor does. I am always waiting over 30 minutes while the pharmacy techs... who look fresh out of high school.. are sitting and talking behind the counter. I had even a worse prescription experience today. I decided that I wasn't going to wait I called IN the prescription using their automated system and gave them over an hour to fill it. When I went there to pick it up, they were looking for it and I knew that they didn't fill it. It was a late weeknight (completely dead), and no one was behind the counter except for an employee eating dinner. I've talk to the manager about the service and nothing has been done. I am going to take my business elsewhere even if it takes longer commute. read more

The convenience of the DR is its saving grace. Before they opened it a couple of years ago your only choices were a couple of shady (very) local pharmacies and Pathmark (with the neverending lines!) I usually find some of what I want from this DR but they aren't my favorite. If I had a choice, I would go down to 135th and shop the roomy, friendly DR. To be fair, the staff at the 145th/Bradhurst DR aren't unfriendly but the store is just not as well kept as it was when they first opened. They've recently reorganized the schematic but I still prefer the bigger store 10 blocks south. read more
