Hilltop gave me the wrong dosage meds in the right bottle and when I came in to tell them, they tried to give me new ones without ever apologizing, acknowledging that they had made me sick, or having me talk to a pharmacist to even ask if I was physically okay. They would barely look me in the eye. I used to really love this place but I simply don't trust them anymore to care if there's a dangerous error. A medication I needed was not available, and the pharmacy staff didn't advise me of that fact when it was picked up. Then when the doctor sent a different prescription, they said they "couldn't break the bottle," and would not fill it. The pharmacy manager explained that a "larger pharmacy" would be able to sell the medication after breaking the bottle," and they would refer me to CVS. Another pharmacy staff member told me they "couldn't break the bottle." The staff has no follow through, and no one seems to know what they are talking about. It's important to be able to trust people who handle your healthcare, and these people....suck at it. read more

I wish I could say good things about this pharmacy, I really do. Small non-chain pharmacies are a vanishing breed, because the modern system of pharmacy benefit managers are forcing them out of business. I would love to support a wonderful neighborhood gem like Hilltop. Unfortunately, they're just not a viable business model anymore, especially if you are using them to supply a long-term medication that you need to take every day without interruption. I've encountered delays as long as several weeks to get a prescription filled (for a common medication, nothing fancy), and it seems to be getting worse. Not only that, but you can't expect to walk into the pharmacy, wait your turn at the counter, pick up and buy your medication, and be on your way. No, there's always an extra 30-45 minute wait involved. Every time. I can't understand it. And forget about getting any kind of notice that a refill is due. They're great as a general store, the kind you normally see only in small towns, and maybe that's what they should focus on. There are other pharmacies (including non-chain small shops) in the neighborhood or online that are much more efficient and reliable. read more

I really want to support small pharmacies and local neighborhood businesses but this place fails everytime. Customer service is so poor. Mike working the front register refused to ring me up because he was 'working'. He saw that I had a stroller and it is difficult to get to the back pharmacy due to the narrow aisles. In addition, the pharmacy can never get it right. They refill medications when not asked, don't refill them when asked, forget to deliver medications all the time. It's also obvious that the pharmacists do the bare minimum. I would strongly suggest that if you get medications here, that you do your own drug interaction check and review of the medication. read more

Please, count the pills in the vials. It happened to me twice. The first time I just noticed that after 3 weeks I was running out. So I went and got a refill, but had to wait for a couple of days. This time I counted, and I was a few pills short again. When I spoke to the pharmacist, he said "Oh yes, we owe you these pills." But it was not pointed out to me when I picked up the refill. And I would have wondered again weeks later. It's a little irresponsible. But still I agree, we want to support the independent pharmacies. read more

I have been a customer at Hilltop for 8 years. On my first visit, the owner Bill introduced himself and spoke to me about my medication needs. The pharmacists he hires are warm and very knowledgeable. I can always call them with questions. Furthermore I have had to order several products due to sensitive skin and Cheryl has been super kind and very helpful in this regard. My medication is always delivered the same day I call and I often ask for a specific delivery time because I work late. I love this neighborhood pharmacy and have only had positive experiences there. "yes". 3/21/22 3pm: Went to pick up rx.=10 tablets and price close to $9!! Express Scripts advised the cost should be below $1. Story changed today 3/21: "We (Hilltop) NOT 'Preferred Pharmacy Provider". That PPP is important to ask any pharmacy before you have then fill your rxs. Why? I paid THIRTY CENTS for 10 tablets @ BROADWAY PHARMACY 4329 Broadway bet W.184-W.185 (across from STAPLES) 212-740-8500. Inconsistent is the best way to describe Hilltop. The store is focused more on being a convenience store than a pharmacy. On many occasions they don't have stock for prescriptions and can only partially fill. Other times that didn't have an RX for my daughter and gave us an alternate script we had to mix ourselves. What about their hours? They open late and close early. Need to pick up an RX at 8 PM? Sorry, their closed. Need to pick up an RX at 8am? Sorry, their closed. I can't tell you how many times I have had to go down to the UWS to a 24 pharmacy due to their limited hours. People are so quick to bash a big box pharmacy. They have tighter restrictions, better hours, and strive to be operate more efficiently. As for your pharmacy relationship, I have had relationships with pharmacists at both CVS and Duane Reade. A relationship with your pharmacist is what you make of it. Would you rather get your meds when you need them or just know someone's name only to have them tell you they don't have what you need when you need it? Come on Hilltop, I challenge you to do better because I know you can! read more

While the staff is always polite, our neighborhood needs a drug store/pharmacy that wants to join the 21st century. Half the store is taken up with chachkies, the pharmacy half of the store opens later than the store itself (making it impossible for early morning commuters to pick up allergy medicine, for example), and in order to purchase anything with Psudophedrine, the pharmacy receptionist has to open a messy 3 inch binder overflowing with papers to pull out a form that we spend 5 minutes filling out by hand... while I'm sure this works, it doesn't make me want to run in the street screaming "This is my amazing local business and I am so happy our neighborhood has not bent to corporate America." As the only Drug Store in the vicinity without corporate competition, it would be nice to see up-to-date computer systems, hours that accommodate a younger generation, and maybe a more competitive selection of goods... how much money do they make off of the toy room? read more

This is one of two pharmacies my family frequents. The have a good selection of gifts, toys, cards, first aid and toiletries, chochskis and whatnot. Our refills are always waiting with rare exception. Delivery service is usually within an hr. I never wait long to check out, front or back. There are never mistakes. All in all, we are lucky to have hilltop in our neighborhood. read more

I've always felt it important to support neighborhood businesses, but especially now. That said Hilltop continues to disappoint after two years. Besides not having the most basic supplies on the shelf, and when they do it being inconsistent, the staff is beyond disorganized and rude. I buy a particular brand of black soap by Shea Moisture from them. Last week I ordered it again from a particularly peevish and disinterested member of staff who took my name and number. After not hearing anything from them, I returned 4 days later only to find out that it had not been ordered. The young girl behind the counter said, matter of factly "oh he didn't order it." I was struck by how commonplace the understanding was that sometimes things get ordered and sometimes not but was even more concerned that I never received a call to inform me that it wouldn't be in. I placed the order again with her (notably, nicer and with eye contact). She took my number (again) and assured me it would be put in. Four days later I returned once again having received no call. A very sweet older woman behind the counter asked someone stocking in the back had it come in. The response was "no, I couldn't get it". After some back and forth in which he attempted to place the blame on the girl who took my number, she pressed him as to why I hadn't received a call to at least let me know and received no answer. Why would I continue to give my money to a place that clearly does not care about my business. It is not worth the deplorable customer service. One star only because of the kind woman who gave even a passing interest. read more

I know there are people who have lived in the neighborhood for years and support this small business, however, it seems they are the only ones treated with any sort of decency or respect. After attempting to use Hilltop for my prescriptions as well as local pharmacy needs for a year since moving to the hood, I finally give up. I will walk the extra 5 blocks to go to the CVS or Rite Aid - which is sad, because I much rather support a mom and pop shop. So why am I giving up? Here are the top two reasons: 1. They have messed up my prescriptions 3 of 4 times. Medicine is not something to screw up, yet my experience is that they do just that on a regular basis. One time they gave me half of the pills prescribed by my MD but charged me for the full amount. Another time, they gave me the wrong prescription all together. And the last time they lost my prescription. 2. The customer service is ridiculous. They like to blame the customer for their mistakes and/or use sarcasm to make you feel like an idiot. Example: Today I went to the front counter and asked for a pack of 4 AA batteries. When I went to pay, I realized the cashier {a young man} had grabbed a 2 pack of the batteries instead of a 4 pack. I told him that I needed a 4 pack and he replied, "well, you said 2 pack." {Not the best response, but he was young so I blew it off.} To which I replied, "but I need a 4 pack." At this point, an elderly woman with bleached out hair who was also behind the counter interrupted and said, "Of course you wanted the 4 pack, we should know that. How absolutely crazy of us to give you a 2 pack when you clearly need the 4 pack." Note that the snarky tone doesn't come across in writing well, but trust that it was there. Good customer service would have been to actually have listened to what I said in the first place, but if a mistake was made to then just simply say, "OK, no problem, let me get you the 4 pack." This is just one of many examples of the kind of service you receive at Hilltop. Needless to say, I won't be going back. read more

BEWARE OF THIS PHARMACY and check ALL your scrips! A pharmacy cannot afford to mess up scrips, yet this one has done so MANY times--yesterday was their last chance. They filled my scrip incorrectly to the point that if I didn't check it, I could easily have taken an overdose. When they delivered the replacement, it too was wrong. No apologies from them, only an annoyance that I was visibly perturbed by their lack of attention to basic details. I take my health very seriously, this pharmacy doesn't seem to give a sh!t about their customers. I will NEVER again place my health in their hands. read more

I couldn't disagree more with the previous reviewers. I've been coming to Hilltop for more than a decade and I have never once had a problem with either their professionalism or their customer service. To the contrary, the people who work there have always been truly courteous and kind and they've gone out of their way to make sure our needs are met. It has a real neighborhood-feel -- something sorely lacking in our grand city -- and they know me and my family by name. The only reason that I didn't give a 5-star rating: as noted before, it is a smaller pharmacy and doesn't always have the full range of products on site. For example, my girlfriend once needed a boot for her sprained foot. They didn't have the size in stock. But othey ordered it and had it available for pick up the next day. read more

I can't say enough about this pharmacy. I went in last summer when I had a terrible outbreak of poison ivy and one of the pharmacists walked over to the allergy section with me and explained the different strengths of the treatments, suggested an oatmeal bath in addition, which really helped, and I felt like I got the kind of attention that is not always readily available at the big box pharmacies. I was in again this morning for a few items and was struck again by how friendly, helpful and polite the staff is. Sitting on the corner as it does, it nicely grounds our little neighborhood business district and just gives this part of Manhattan an old world Norman Rockwell vibe that leaves me feeling all warm inside. This is such a great neighborhood to live in, and it's small neighborhood businesses such as this that make it so. read more

This is the type of place where the owners and staff know your name, and everyone in your family by first name basis. My family has been using Hilltop for around two decades, if not more. If you don't want pharmacists who actually recognize your face when you come in, then please go ahead and use a duane reade or CVS. Hilltop Pharmacy is a neighborhood pharmacy that goes above and beyond to get the job done and take care of it's customers. Unlike the "Fast Food Phamacies" Rite Aid and Duane Reade, Jules and Manny know the customers always greet me with by name with a hello. They'll call your doctor or insurance company automatically and not make you beg like the chains. Hilltop Pharmacy exemplifies american small business spirit of people proud of where they work and the job they do. One month when I forgot my medications, they called me at home to make sure I was okay as well as remind me to pick up my prescriptions. i just cancelled my trip to Canada on Sunday because they would not fill a prescription ordered by my doctor yesterday morning, saying it was not due until Wednesday (four days away). My doctor had ordered it that morning. He was not notified that there was a problem with his order that morning. They merely sent my assistant away without calling either my doctor or me. I telephoned the pharmacy when she returned explaining I was leaving the country and whether a prescription was due or not was the doctor's decision, not Julia's ( the pharmacist). It is not the first time there has been a problem with Julia who likes a good power struggle. The store clerk, instead of listening to my plight, got into a semantic argument as to precisely what had been said to my assistant. She was rude and had no interest in solving the problem. This is a common occurrence at Hilltop. They are often out of stock. Another prescription that was picked up had been ordered on Thursday and I was called to say they could not fill it until Friday. I once received a prescription in four different forms because they did not have the stock. Two different oblong pills (one with a line and one without), two round pills (one large one small). All the same dosage and it did make me question whether those meds were up to date. I had another prescription that was delivered in half one day and a week later the other half came to me in a box with the pills secured to push out papers. No dates on those either. For a while it looked as though the meds might come through but by this morning it was clear I would need to cancel the trip. I have been ill for two years and had to hire a driver to take me to my home in Quebec. When I walk down there with my walker I often find conventional items to be out of stock. Some staff members show concern and make a effort to get the items as soon as possible. Yet, if it is under $10, my credit card cannot be applied to the delivery. I have lived in this neighborhood for 20 years and was among those worked to keep Hilltop when it was threatened by Walgreen. Not only do I regret that effort but having to cancel the Canada trip has forced me to write this critique to help others. Warning: if ever you are going away and need your meds make arrangements well in advance. I hope my doctor calls to remind them that he is the one who decides when a prescription needs to be filled, not Julia. read more

They are great with delivery and get my meds filled quickly. Manny, who oversee the desk is super friendly, kind and discreet. I could not image going anywhere else for my meds. Purchased five small items and paid w/ AMEX. Requested a receipt but a lady clerk was struggling to generate it. I told her it's okay since I have AMEX app on phone showing the completed transaction. This is when this soft spoken clerk turns frustrated and said the transaction did not go thru and needs to run my card again. Told her it went thru. The time recorded as 10:20 am today(7/13/22). She insists it did not go thru, and needs to run the card again. At this time I said no since it shows it went thru. She then said, "I will let you go this time". Wow, as if she is letting a customer go without paying??? Please be careful how you say things. I understand it's stressful time working during the pandemic and it was not cool I raised my voice along w/ her. But what was said there was NOT a right way of responding. She should have apologized for system being a little slow and not knowing how to generate the receipt, which i told her was perfectly fine. Well, perhaps it's this humid day. If you want an impersonal retail experience, shop the chains. This is an independent pharmacy where you are interacting with real people. I find the pharmacy high-quality and responsive to your needs (need a prescription refill but hasn't come through yet? they offered to supply a couple pills to hold you until the doctor approves it). That's the kind of caring and thoughtful service I have found here, along with a lovely selection of children's toys, gifts, and the usual health and grooming supplies. Hilltop rocks.
