After taking this class with Hector I feel like I know much more than if I was to learn online by myself. A great class for anyone that learns by doing. Worth the money! read more

The workshop was amazing. Because the class was small, Hector gave each student 1 on 1 assistance and ensured that the class flowed smoothly. I learned so many cool things I can do with my camera as well as training my eye on what to look for in order to take a "Good" photo. Hector is very knowledgeable, an excellent communicator and the homework before the workshop really helped me. I would recommend this workshop to anyone wanting to "Get out of Auto mode" 10++++. read more

What a great class!! Hector gives you homework a week before the class starts. He challenges you, he's not a "death by PowerPoint" instructor, he is hands on while making you do the work! That's the way to learn! He teaches slow enough to understand and fast enough to keep you interested!! He provides snacks, drinks, a folder with an information packet for each student and knowledge!! I waited months to get in (due to my schedule) and it was worth it!!!! I learned so much! Now it's up to me to practice and to build my portfolio!! read more

This class covered subjects to make me more familiar with my camera capabilities and settings along with positioning to obtain the best lighting and to create more interesting pictures. Before the class, I had high hopes of learning a lot but this class exceeded my expectations. Hector is an outstanding instructor. read more

I recently got a Nikon z50 for my birthday and was afraid to use it because I knew nothing about how to take a good picture. Hector helped ease my mind and now I feel comfortable taking pictures in manual mode. I have a trip coming up and feel confident I can take great pictures. Also, I really want to take sports pics for my girls and know how to use the shutter speed correctly. Thank you for your time, Hector. read more

I took the 'No More Auto' class from Hector on 4/17/22. I had some knowledge of photography concepts but had recently purchased a mirrorless camera which I was having a difficult time learning how to navigate. Hector was amazing, his knowledge of cameras is incredible. Although he did not have a lot of experience of my particular camera (Panasonic) he was quickly able to figure it out. I learned so much about how to navigate around much of my camera functionality. He was patient, enthusiastic, confident in his experience and excellent at instructing. On Friday I would have never believed that I would ever be able to shoot in manual mode, much less prefer it. By the end of the day Saturday I was confidently shooting in manual mode. I highly recommend the class, not only for the experience this man has for photography concepts but his excellent camera operation knowledge. He will definitely get you out of shooting in Auto mode. read more

This was my first time taking a photography class and they made it really simple. I should probably begin with saying that the words "test" and "memorize" give me anxiety. So when I received the emails, and implanted a stern voice with the references to "studying," I started to second-guess going. Fear not, it was really easy. You do need to take the time to review and watch a few videos on YouTube. I had a hard time with the ones that is provided by the school. I could hardly understand the woman with her accent, and all I could focus on was the accent. So I youtubed the same concept videos and it was really helpful. There's a lot of Hands-On training that you won't really get anywhere else. Overall my experience was amazing and I would highly recommend them. read more

My best friend bought me this class for my birthday since I have had my DSLR camera for a while and had not used it. Hector was very patient during the class and super helpful. I enjoy meeting new people too. It was a great day to take it, in Las Vegas too. I highly recommend if you have a DSLR or mirrorless camera and unsure of how to get started. I'm excited to continue my photography journey and plan on taking more classes that Hector offers in the future! read more

I came across to this class on meetup . I am glad I was able to attend. Hector is very passionate when it come to teaching photography. I could sense it right away . He was attentive and made sure we all had our questions answered. I went in there clueless of how to use my camera and when the class ended I was already felling comfortable in knowing how to take pictures and to use my camera . He covered a lot of information in just one day . I totally recommend it . If you are ready and eager to start learning how to use your camera I suggest not to second guess it and take his class. Totally worth the investment. read more

This class was absolutely amazing and I would highly recommend it to anyone that want's to learn how to use their camera. I've had my camera for about 5 years and never really took pictures with it because I was always sort of intimidated by all the different features it comes with. After taking Hector's class I can say that taking pictures with my camera is just as easy as pulling out my phone to take pictures now and the quality I get on my camera is 100x better that would I can achieve with a phone. Hector is very thorough when teaching you how to use a camera and breaks thing down in a way that is easy to understand and if you don't understand, he is more than happy to go more in depth with whatever the topic is. The class was very engaging and will definitely set you up for success in whatever you are trying to achieve with your camera. Highly Recommend! read more

Great class! Hector was amazing he is so full of knowledge and it is so worth every penny and more. This class is for you if you have been holding on to that camera for a while and it's just collecting dust, if you just purchased a camera and need help learning to use it, or wanting to just learn how to get started taking great photos. Thank you to Hector, his wife and the others in the class for such a great experience. read more

I took Hector's Basic photography class last September 26, 2015, Saturday and it's a blast. I've learned a lot of things especially the connection between aperture, shutter speed and ISO and how to adjust it base on the available lights you have. I was able to know the three rules in photography which I don't even know by just reading photography books or browsing youtube channel. The great thing about the class, for me, is able to use my DSLR camera in a manual mode and I really enjoy doing it. It's like driving automatic and manual transmission car. Automatic is good but manual mode gives you the control, satisfaction and responsibility of combining different settings and adjusting all of these settings based on the available lights that you have. By doing what I learned from Hector's class, I am able to get good pictures based on my own creative perspective. If you want to get out of auto mode and be creative in using your DSLR and taking great pictures, Hector's class is beneficial for you. You won't regret it. All you need to bring is your interest and enthusiasm to learn and unlearn everything about basic photography. read more

YouTube wasn't enough! Hector is an amazing instructor. You can tell he really enjoys teaching and makes the course extremely engaging. I came into this course with 0 experience and 0 knowledge. I just purchased Sony A7 camera and knew nothing of it. There were several other camera models in the course, and he still specifically helped each and every one of us. I not only learned exactly how to use my camera off auto mode, more importantly I learned how to use my surrounding environment to take better photos through Hectors vision. read more

After taking two online classes on photography, I realized I was still clueless on how to operate a camera; I'm more of a hands-on learner. So, I did some research via Yelp and found Hector's Manual Mode class with 5-star reviews. I signed up and was super excited for the workshop. Upon arrival at Sunset Park, Hector had a location set up with props, seating, water and snacks. He provided us with a binder full of information that was extremely helpful. Hector is so knowledgeable, patient and answers any questions you have. By the end of the day, I was comfortable shooting in manual mode and will never use Auto again! Cons of the class: For me, personally, this workshop was about 3 hours too long. The first 5-6 hours incorporated a lot of understanding numbers (ISO, shutter speed & aperture), which doesn't come easily for me. My brain was so exhausted from all the info crammed in, that I was shut down when most of the shooting began toward the last couple of hours. In my opinion, this is a two-day class. One day to soak in all the number stuff and then another day to apply that info would have worked better for me. Also, I felt the student to instructor ratio was too high. Hector said he usually has 8 students, which would have been perfect; I think we had 13 students. Toward the end, we did a lot of portrait shooting of students, which was great. But... it would have been nice to have the instructor look at the photos taken and provide instruction/critiques. I felt like we just kept shooting and shooting with no individual critiques on how to get amazing pics similar to the ones Hector took. I was unsure on what to improve on or do differently, so I stopped shooting. There was just too many students for more specialized attention. Overall, a great workshop; I learned a ton. You will get so much more out of this 1-day class vs. online classes and vs. college classes. I look forward to taking more of Hector's workshops. He knows his stuff! read more

If you are going to start a hobby or business with photography, I recommend taking Hector's class to get out of Auto Mode. Yeah you can learn alot on you tube and online but the experience you get with this face to face, hands on, ask a professional right now type of experience is very worth it. I got home from the workshop more excited about photography as I learned to control lighting, control depth, and shutterspeeds for moving subjects. I was more comfortable with navigating around settings and buttons on my Nikon d5600. Once you let him know you're interested in the class his communication from start to finish was very good, very organized which I appreciated alot. read more

This was my first photography class ever and I'm so happy I found it!! Hector explained in detail many features on my camera that I didn't understand before his class. There was also lots of opportunity to practice taking photos with all the different settings. It's worth it!! read more

I brought this class for my wife who showed interest in photography and taking pictures. I researched several photography classes in Las Vegas and Hector with DSLR exceeded expectation. He was communicative, prompt, responsible and experienced. Hector sent homework prior to the class and was my wife felt that she learned and has better command of her camera. My wife is a "rookie" and thought this class was going to be "over her head". Hector was able to meet the student where they are at and he has a "teaching spirit." A very helpful and informative day. Hector was gentle, calm and experienced. You learn a lot more than just getting off Auto mode. You learn about the camera, equipment and the process the camera uses to create the perfect photo-this is essential to truly understand ISO, aperture and shutter speed. I started the day with a major headache regarding these three things and left with a pretty good understanding of everything. Highly recommended for anyone that wants to unleash the power and potential of your DSLR. Thank you and well done read more

I have always been interested in photography and have had a DSLR for years however was never really comfortable with using it outside of auto. The class that I attended was insightful, educational and entertaining. Hector was very good, patient, answered all questions and explained everything in detail, until we understood. I loved that fact that he provided confirmations of my registration, preparatory assignments and reminded us to get some rest before the day of training. He is a fun and professional trainer. I came home with more understanding about photography and a simplified manual binder for my review. I highly recommend Hector as a Teacher and/or your Photographer. Thank You Hector! read more

DSLR Photography Classes - Hector's beautiful work! - Photography Classes Near Me - Las Vegas, Nevada

I took Hector's workshop on March 17th, 2018. It was hands on, informative, and practice rich. He provided tons of resources and thoroughly explained HOW the camera works so I am able to use it in my specific situations. The workshop was long and jam-packed with good tools. Plus Hector is a really nice guy who made learning accessible and you can see how passionate and skilled he is. Thank you! read more

This is a very informative class, Hector spends the entire day with you showing you exactly how to use different modes on your DSLR camera to improve your pictures, how to use all the buttons on your camera and what each function they perform. The class I attended was 8 people which was perfect because you really got individual help as well as learning from others questions in a small setting. The price for this course is very reasonable compared to other classes I've attended that were not anywhere near as informative as this one. I look forward to taking more of Hector's classes and will recommend him to anyone I know wanting to learn how to take beautiful pictures! read more

On June 2, 2018, I participated in Hector's "Get Out of Auto" class. Prior to the class, Hector provides you with some homework. At first (and second) reading, it was very confusing; however, after reading the manual and then the homework again, and practicing what Hector was saying, it began to make sense. That is the key PRACTICE! Before the class - it will make knowing what is going on in the class much easier. Hector is very organized and prepared. He thought of everything needed for the class - seating chart so those with similar cameras were grouped together, props, benches, canopies to keep everyone out of the sun, water and Gatorade to keep you hydrated and chips to snack on. The directions on where to park and where to find him were spot on (if one bothers to actually read them) Hector provided everyone with a 3-ring binder with lots of information and covered it all throughout the day. We would go through sections of the binder and then shoot pictures to practice what we had reviewed. Then review another section, then practice. Hector is SO PATIENT!!!! I agree with another reviewer there is A LOT to be learned/retained in one day and it is a long day - maybe that's a sign I'm getting older - however, that said, everything covered in the class is included in the notebook so I can refer back to it if needed while I am practicing. As with anything - PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE is the key. I am looking forward to practicing and using everything Hector taught us on Saturday and hopeful I will get some beautiful pictures when we cruise the Panama Canal this September - and I shoot in MANUAL - no more AUTO!!!! I will definitely be taking another class with Hector in the future. More than anything, Hector made learning FUN! He's a GREAT instructor, loves what he does and shares his passion with all. read more

Just finished the 1 day class with Hector here in Las Vegas. I very much appreciate the opportunity to learn much more about my camera than I had known prior. The "little green box" was my friend, but my pictures were never as good as I would have liked. Now that I know a lot more about Av; Pv; and Manual settings, I already see a clear difference in what my camera can do for me. Having high-end professional equipment and lenses could have been a waste, but I made a New Year's resolution to better understand photography. With Hector's help, in a clear, concise manner of teaching, I understand substantially more about the camera settings, and look forward to taking further steps toward becoming a better photographer. Hector's class was very informative, practical, & easy to follow along. He is a great teacher, photographer & made it for an awesome day (but it will be a LONG day, be prepared). I now FINALLY know how to photograph in manual, aperture, & shutter mode, goodbye AUTO!!! Hector also gave great tips for portrait, landscape, & different styles of photography & answered ANY questions you may have that other online photography courses don't give you the option for. Thank you Hector! read more

Take this course! I had ZERO photography experience going in and by the end of the 2 day workshop I was in complete control of my camera, taking pics I never thought I'd be capable of in such a short amount of time. Hector is very passionate about teaching his art to others. My only complaints are: 1)the weather (the entire class is conducted outdoors) and 2)the class ran late on day two because we got so carried away shooting pics. Overall the course is well worth the money. read more

Hector is truly amazing.... I have taken his Get out of Auto Mode in Las Vegas I want to say in 2010, and since then we have kept in touch through the years. I have always been able to keep in contact with him with any questions whether it be about equipment or advice on a shoot....and since then, I have taken his Creative Lighting class twice, once in 2012 & 2015 (I needed a refresher) and both times I learned something new and different. He truly is amazing. He has so much passion in photography it is contagious. (Ive taken a few classes with other instructors and the passion, patience & eagerness to share knowledge could not compare to Hector) I highly recommend his class. read more

I took the course in Las Vegas, Herctor prepare a large living where he gave the class, the notes were waiting for us in the chair and he also brought drinks and snacks. Its an amazing class... Had great weekend learning about my camera. These classes are not that big, so u can learn more and ask Hector if you need help. Initially I was bit apprehensive sending a check to some one whom I dont know, thinking it was a spam, but its worth the money you spend. You learn a lot about landscapes, portraits, night photography. I have lived in Vegas for 5 years and I didnt not expect me to take some beautiful pics of casinos and architectures. You learn about aperture setting, shutter speed, ISO, framing, white balance and composure. I highly recommend this class. read more

Last weekend I took Hector's Get Out of Auto Mode class in Las Vegas. It was the best decision I've made and was money well spent! I had some knowledge going into the class from a brief 2 hour presentation class, but this goes well beyond that. He helps you understand your camera, and then puts you in situations to help give you hands on experience. It is an all day workshop, but goes quickly. He is very well prepared and creates an area you use for the day. He has a tent and chairs for a comfortable learning environment and provides water, Gatorade and snacks to help get you through the day. You do have homework he assigns the week before, but it helps get everyone to a place where everyone has a similar understanding of the camera, which helps the class progress. When you arrive, you receive a very large handbook in a 3 ring binder of everything you go over in the class, which is great to look back at as you practice. His hands-on exercises helped demonstrate a concept and made it easier to learn and remember. This was probably one of the best classes in general that I've taken and felt like I got a ton out of it. I feel a lot more confident in the pictures I am taking now and look forward to using this as a foundation to continue to grow from. Hector is a phenomenal teacher and a great photographer. If you are even considering taking one of his classes, do it. You won't regret it. read more
