Hello there,
We are a couple from Spain spending a few months in San Diego. We live and work on a boat and get to travel and visit beautiful places. In most of the cases, we feel that we cannot capture on a photograph we what see with our eyes and we usually end up looking at our pictures and saying 'it's such a pity !!. Well, that's the main reason we decided to take some photography classes and, so far, we've taken three different ones.
Often, the teachers are very good photographers but they don't know how to pass onto their students that valuable information they hold. On the other hand some teachers can teach you a lot of useful theory but you don't get to practice and the class ends up a powerpoint lecture/presentation. You will possibly forget everything in the next couple of weeks. At least we did!
So, we read the reviews of Hector's work and decide it to take this course (Part I and II in one day). We though it was going to be a looooong day but, to our surprise, it went really quickly and we had a lot of fun with Hector and the whole group. We all posed, we all worked together, individually and tried a lot of techniques, action shots, from frizzing to panning, portraits, night photography and so many more.
Hector is an awesome photographer, teacher and person. He has a very dynamic and fun way of teaching and at the same time he will be on top of you to review your work and help you to improve it. We finally understood many crucial concepts in photography and know now how to use our Canon 7D much more effectively. Hector always patiently found the way to answer to all our questions and made sure we understood everything. By the way, he knows all the cameras very well so he can help you to find your way around regardless of your camera's brand or/and model.
In the class we went through so much, from aperture to ISO, shutter speed, white balance, depth of field, all the different programs, how to hold our camera properly, how to read histograms, metering and even a very interesting part in composition, like rule of thirds, balanced framing and many others.
We came into his class feeling very confused. We went out of his class knowing our camera and having understood the concepts in great depth. Now we feel comfortable and we are not anymore overwhelmed by all the endless programming options a camera gives you. We haven't stopped practicing and we love it! The results are awesome! In addition to that we met a lot of fantastic people we are still in touch with, we had a LOT of fun and laughter and we got to meet Hector, a fantastic photographer and an even better person!
Thank you for reading this review and f you are in automatic mode go and click with Hector. You won't regret it. You will become a clicker!!
