Students with disabilities and additional needs are getting a raw deal because of lack of funding, staff shortages and programming cuts. Students are being taught by volunteers and subs. This is not educating children, it's barely even babysitting. So very sad as it could be a great school, but it's being slowly killed by mismanagement, understaffing, lack of programming and teachers who are overworked, underpaid and under appreciated.

Ideally, preschool enrollment should help children prepare for kindergarten, or so I thought…read more Unfortunately, my experience with this school was a nightmare. It felt as though I had given birth to a little monster. Every day, the teacher complained about my son's behavior, saying he was running around, not sharing, jumping, and more. One day, we were asked to pick him up early, which was extremely stressful. We later met with his teacher and the principal to discuss a plan of action. Right away, I sensed an unsettling vibe from the kindergarten teacher. She claimed she was trying her best to help our son adjust, but stated that other kids also needed her attention. She also suggested we seek help from our physician regarding his behavior. Keep in mind that my son had attended daycare without any behavioral issues. My husband made an appointment with the doctor, who assured him that our son was perfectly fine and simply acting his age. While I was searching for a new school, we found one that reassured us about their staff's expertise. They informed us that their teachers had over 18 years of experience and that we wouldn't encounter the same problems we faced before. I am pleased to say they did not disappoint. My son enjoys going to school; we no longer have to bribe him. He has received a star every day for exhibiting great behavior without needing any redirection. One day, the school even allowed parents to come in and observe for a moment, and my son sat quietly like a pro. I truly believe the previous teacher was not equipped to handle kindergarten. The way she spoke about my child in front of me revealed a palpable dislike. Consequently, I removed my son from that toxic environment. Now, he is thriving in his new school, and his new teacher is wonderful!

After this drawn out situation they had the nerve to send a text that said if the pieces weren't picked up in a week they would be donated. Initially we had planned to take other classes however we have decided not to do that. Neither of us was impressed with the organizational skills.

My Experience at the Harker Heights Campus…read more In 2023, I had the unique experience of being both a full-time student and employee at the Harker Heights campus--and I can confidently say it was one of the best experiences I've had. This was not just a job, but a place that truly supported my personal and professional growth. The leadership at this campus is exceptional. They were understanding, flexible with my school schedule, and always pushed me to do my best. Compliance is taken very seriously here, and if you're not organized or can't follow instructions closely, this may not be the right place for you. But for those who are ready to learn, stay focused, and grow--this is where you want to be. This is not a job for someone looking for an easy ride. But if you're determined and willing to be held accountable, you'll leave better than you came. The discipline and training I received here have directly helped me in my current job. I was proud to be a student here as well. Best school ever. Thank you, Harker Heights team, for everything!

As a parent I have seen other parents acting CRAZY in that front office and then try to complain about the school. The staff is all about the students so they deal with the parents quickly. I am happy about that since my kid goes there. They do not let them get away with anything. This is how it should be since they will be adults soon. It takes caring people to do what they do everyday. It is a FANTASTIC school and any parent who complains is probably one of those parents. The teachers and principals love the students. They taught my son how to be and do better all around and I am thankful for that. THANK YOU Ira Cross teachers and principals.
