My sons Alternator was bad, but instead of replacing the alternator, they installed a new battery (which they probably already had in the shop). Thereby making $200 on the deal. (Battery + Labor), plus keeping my perfectly fine $200 Sears Platinum battery. If they would have done the correct thing and just replaced the alternator, they would not have made much money on the deal. This is especially alarming because my son was a student at Colgate and the garage owner knew my son didn't have the automotive "know-how" to push back... and I was 300 miles away.
