Just had lunch here and everything was stellar. My husband had a bowl of clam chowder and I had cup of lobster bisque. The lobster bisque had large pieces of lobster in it and was very tasty -- creamy but light. I tasted my husband's clam chowder and while it was very good, I was glad I had ordered the bisque. We split an order of fried scallops. They were fries perfectly, and were tender and hot. Served with fries and cole slaw, both of which were very good. Unfortunately this place was average (or below average) for the cost. Came here to get lobster bisque due to a glowing review from another Yelper. I asked for it extra hot. Ordered the fried haddock sandwich too. Soup arrived with steam (before the spoons to eat it came) but the soup was actually not that hot when we tasted it. We had to wait for spoons. The bowl of lobster bisque was $34, which was a conscious decision for us to order - because that's expensive. (A cup is$20.) The lobster bisque had no flavor. The salt, pepper and lemon we added ourselves helped but for $34, it should be amazing. It cooled off super quickly and was room temperature within 3 minutes and in 8 minutes or so, cold. Which means it wasn't truly heated through and through to start. We regret ordering it. The fried haddock sandwich had zero flavor. None. Not salt, not pepper. The fries and Heinz ketchup had the most flavor of anything on our table. When the sandwich came we asked for another plate (we were sharing it), which never came. At one point, the waitress came over and asked how everything was. I replied, "Eh, alright." She said "Okay!" and walked away. Disappointing since, budget-wise, we are eating out one meal a day of this trip and that was the experience (and lack of flavor) we had. $66 including tip. Such a waste. We visited The Dry Dock in Rockland this October and absolutely loved it. From the moment we arrived, it had that warm, welcoming local feel that makes you instantly comfortable. Even though there was about a five-minute wait for a table, two separate locals sitting at the bar offered us their seats--such a genuine reflection of the friendly atmosphere here! Our waiter was incredibly kind, attentive, and made the whole experience even better. The food was fantastic--fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. The highlight of the night was the 1 1/4-pound steamed lobster special for just $29--perfectly cooked and such a great value! The Dry Dock truly captures the spirit of Maine hospitality--great people, great food, and a relaxed coastal vibe. We'll definitely be back on our next trip to Rockland! read more

Our late lunch, or "Linner" as we call it was just perfect. I don't say that often. We were going for fresh Maine seafood, and we know our Maine seafood. We both said it some of the best we have had, and I have been in this planet in New England a long time. Steamers, Clam Chowder. Haddock Sandwich, all really good. And our server was great. Then to our surprise, when we texted a picture to our friends in North Carolina, who had been visiting this summer, she called the restaurant and paid for our lunch! How good is that? Ate here when the cruise made a stop in Rockland, Maine. We decided to eat here because it was close to the cruise port and the sandwich board said steamed claims. There was a line but the wait wasn't very long. The weather was nice so we got to sit outside in the sun. I was disappointed when we sat down and the menu had the steamed claims crossed off. I ended up ordering the special which was a lobster roll and chips. I've never eaten a lobster roll, so I didn't know what to expect. I was surprised that my lobster roll was pack full of large pieces of lobster lightly dressed in mayonnaise. My friend had never tried lobster, so I gave her one of the large pieces from my lobster roll. Even though I gave her one of the pieces, I felt there was still a lot of lobster left in my lobster roll. I'd eat here again if I am ever in Rockland, Maine. read more

We found Dry Dock to be the perfect spot for lunch at the North Atlantic Blues Festival. Very nice server, and the food was great - we shared a fried shrimp platter and a burger! A darn good authentic lobster roll. Of course main style. The wait was fairly quick during Friday rush hour and was delighted by a perfect lobster roll. Tone of voice, discriminatory behavior is just not acceptable for someone in customer service/ restaurant position. Several people I noticed came after us and were seated without reservation. Eclipse is a very cute and cozy place with a wonderful view of the water. The service is good. Having gone there 4 times now, however, I doubt if I'll be back for some time. I don't mind paying high prices for delicious food. But I will not pay $22 - 23 for a burger anymore. Explanation: $17 for the burger (with fries or cole slaw). $1.55 tax and $4.00 tips brings that up to $22.55. (no drinks) And that burger is just not good enough to cost $22.50. It was mediocre at best, as are the fries. (my husband thought it was awful but I'll be kind) The lobster bisque is good but it is now $32. There is not one thing on the menu that is reasonably priced. So, you are paying for very average food but a great view. Soooooo tired of $17 and $18 burgers when half the time McDonald's tastes better. Now a burger at Home Kitchen, that juicy big thing is worth the money. read more

I really like this place. We kind of happened across the Eclipse of the Pearl by accident. Originally we went to Rustica and in the past they never took reservations for parties of two. Well when we walked in we were told we had to have reservations even for two. Grrrr! My wife suggested "The Baby Pearl." I didn't even know it was there. Very charming, homey and inviting. The food was very good. I had prime rib and my wife had a haddock dish. Very tasty. We went back again last night and had another great experience. Coconut shrimp was very good, chowder excellent, again I had prime rib and me wife had maple glazed salmon. Very very good. Sweet potato fries were fantastic and my fries were really good. The service is friendly and attentive. They take reservations and pour a nice drink. I highly recommend them! The only thing I can ding them on is it's a bit noisy. read more

The lunch service offered Corn Lobster Chowder. I've lived in Maine for 15 yrs and this is THE best chowder I've ever tasted. There were generous chunks of lobster and the corn gave the right amount of sweetness. I will be watching for this special again. The place was busy and service good. So amazing!! We had been to the Sail Power & Steam Museum and were looking for a place nearby to grab a bite to eat. I am so glad we stumbled upon this gem! The menu is excellent and has something for everybody. My husband got the burger on special and I got a lobster roll. Both were delectable and the French fries were absolutely to die for! We sat out on the pier and enjoyed looking at the boats. There also seemed to be a lot of locals around because several groups of tables near us seemed to know each other and the restaurant staff. Nice location in Rockland on water. The new name is Dry dock restaurant. We were seated quickly inside as it was going to rain soon. Service was a little slow as it was busy so we chose to order everything when the waitress came over. We tried the steamers, clam chowder and coconut shrimp all were quite good especially the chowder was the thick New England type. I had baked haddock for my meal a little bland. My husband had lobster risotto which he thought was fabulous. My son got a chicken sandwich which was large and delicious. Food came out quickly once we ordered. We did not get dessert. I'll drive a couple of hours anytime to eat at the Eclipse. First time. Monday afternoon late lunch. My wife and two daughters. What a delightful experience. My oldest visiting from San Francisco is back on the west coast and still talking about the lobster stew she had at Eclipse. Young daughter thought her steak sandwich was fantastic. My wife had the haddock tacos - crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. I had the 4 oz fried haddock with incredible French fries the best cold slaw I've ever had. Great beverage selection. The most enjoyable and professional service. And yes the view of Penobscot Bay is wonderful. Visiting Rockland on a Sunday afternoon - discovered not many restaurants are open on that day. Food was excellent, great clams and lobster pasta dishes! Our waitress was great, too. Low point - the host was obviously stressed and rudely refused to allow us to move to a window table - we hadn't even been served yet and it would have been effortless. Going to Eclipse Of The Pearl turned out to be a happy accident for our family. 12 of us, (counting 5 children) tried to get into a restaurant across the street, which will remain nameless. (Hint - Hills). The first restaurant told us they couldn't accommodate us because of staffing issues. I drove down the hill to look at the docks, and noticed Eclipse right by the water. At first, I thought it was a little deli. But I walked up and discovered it was a restaurant with some attractive dishes listed outside. When I went in, they told me they could accommodate us all. They put some tables together right by the windows facing the water. The people couldn't have been any more accommodating or friendly. But, what about the food? In a word, extraordinary! Among us, we had clam chowder, lobster bisque, cocoanut shrimp, blackened haddock tacos, lobster linguini, and chicken tenders and grilled cheese for the kiddos. One of the adults is vegetarian and, although they didn't have any vegetarian entree on the menu, they made up a wonderful vegetarian pasta dish for her. All were WONDERFUL. No exaggeration. Beer on tap and wine were good, too. After, our server showed up with fudge sickles for the kids and, after, candy! We have been staying in the area for just about a week, eating out at least once a day. This was, by far, our best experience in terms of both food and service in an attractive, clean restaurant.
