Definitely a locals place. We waited for about 10 minutes while watching the servers and staff walk by us, I understood as they were busy. Maybe short staffed? After standing at the entrance for 10 minutes, next to the wait to be seated sign, we realized you have to walk up to the register to actually get a seat. I spoke to the girl behind the register and she said she would clear an empty table for us. We waited another 10 minutes at the entrance and the table remained dirty, so I again went to someone and asked for an empty table. There were now at least 3 clean ones around the perimeter. A waitress told us to sit at another cleaned one. We sat and waited another 10 minutes to be acknowledged and get water. We then waited another 10 minutes to be told they didn't have the beer listed on the board that my partner asked for. We would have been better off getting our own beverage at the bar that was just across from us. Then again waited a while to get a second choice. The food was served in a timely manner and was better than I expected after our initial experience. I got a salad I liked, it was super fresh and the chicken was moist and flavorful. My partner liked his burger and fries, it was cooked as ordered and flavorful. The menu is pretty big and looks like there is something for everyone. By this time it had slowed down a bit so we got the check in a timely manner. We sat to casually relax and finish our beer after cashing out on the digital platform (toast). We left and got into the car. When backing out, the waitress was at our window knocking and telling us we didn't pay our bill. Never have I ever experienced this and never would we ever do such a thing. My partner explained no, we paid using the digital platform and that we would never do that and she insisted we did not. After pulling up our digital PAID receipt to show her did she casually say, "Oh, ok." And walk away. Honestly, it was not the way we wanted to end our experience there. Not sure I'll return here especially with so many other places to go that we've had good experiences at. It's unfortunate because I wanted to love this place.

There is however just one thing about it which rankles, and makes me less likely to return. Namely: The staff seem to have been instructed to demand aggressively that you pay up front--or swipe your card before you've even been served. Even if you're sitting at the bar (not outside). Problem 1: Tips should be based on the service rendered. I can't know what the service was like until we're done. So that forces patrons to choose the "run a tab" option even if just dropping in for one beer. Problem 2: This policy feels needlessly suspicious and hostile, as if USB doesn't trust their (almost exclusively well-heeled) clientele to pay. And this isn't some busy NYC bar where people occasionally walk on tabs. And bowhere else I've been in Hudson does this. If Governor's or Padrona tried it, regulars would look at the server like an extraterrestrial. Management might want to take a chill pill and try trusting their patrons more; Hudson is still a small town. Take the order, do a good job, give us a bill when we're ready... After the drinks and food are finished.

Tried it once and most likely won't be back. Granted it was the 4th of July holiday but service was less than adequate. We were part of a party of 7 one of our party is in a wheelchair and this was stated when the reservation was made yet when we arrived we still had almost an hour wait and when shown to our seats it was a bar height table. We protested and were told there was nothing they could do so we asked to see a manager and when he was located he also said there was nothing that could be done because they had almost 100 reservations even though there were at least 6 empty tables on the patio the entire time we were there. Our companion in the chair didnt want us to make a big deal of it as she was embarrassed and chose to eat with the group even though she was practically under the table . I then looked over and noticed a man in a surgical boot also seated in a chair next to a high top table so it seemed to.be a pattern. The dining room was 85 degrees and the food was less than mediocre my salad was bland and tasteless with peaches so hard I thought they were apples and the pizzas ordered by several others were the rare combination of burned on the outside and raw in the middle. If you or anyone you know have any form of special needs this is not the place for you... read more

Went there this past Saturday night with a large group. The bartenders were miserable, rude and wouldn't even come take our drink orders. I ordered a sour beer of raspberry-lime. It was decent but something was missing I still can't determine. My starter were house made chips with their blue cheese dipping sauce. They arrived almost instantaneously and were well done, which I appreciated. The dipping sauce is so thick, it's more like a spread with some intense flavor. My smashburger arrived, which looked great until I realized the burger had been smashed to the point of being paper thin, making the edges crispy. This made for a "bread sandwich" that was dry until I got to the sauce and kimchi in the absolute center, which was quite good. There was no side salad option, so I went with the German potato salad. It was over-seasoned to the point where I had to stop eating. The runner also brought over fries, which I hadn't ordered, but he left them on my table anyway. They were also well done and tasted good. However, I was "potatoed out" at that point. Many other diners had pizzas and they looked great. Clearly, they knew something I didn't and I should have tried one of those instead. I couldn't relay this to the server because he kept disappearing for long periods of time and never happened to see me hold up a hand for help. He was kind but not attentive by any means. After fifteen minutes of waiting, he did reappear and finally got my check. Common Roots could be an amazing place to dine and hangout but they've got some work to do. Five stars for the atmosphere and two stars for food and service.

So the next time I scheduled a brewery crawl in the area, I made sure to come here. I submitted a business page update regarding the rebranding, but at this point, I don't know whether Yelp will simply rename the existing page or create a new one for Fallside. For the time being, my update goes under Bye-I. The new space is great. I had no idea how much bigger it was until I walked a ways inside, and I was equally impressed by the cool artwork. The beer is, of course, as tasty as before. We seated ourselves in the back to enjoy our pours, and within a couple of minutes, a server dropped off food menus and attended to us the rest of the evening. Had I read my recently obtained copy of the March-April copy of local "True Brew," I would have known that several of their dishes were featured in it, specifically their beef stew and mac & cheese. But I had the Chicken Caprese sandwich, which came with steak fries perfectly cooked and obviously cut in their own kitchen. We were checked on frequently, and as we were finishing up, their Friday evening music session was starting. Food and drink here are reasonably priced, and I feel the quality of both were just as good, or perhaps better, than what you get at "those larger breweries" along Broadway. Of course I'll still patronize them all, but for me, Fallside has the edge in this part of town right now.
