If you're visiting the Cooperstown area or anywhere in upstate New York, this is an absolute must-see. We've been coming here for years, and every visit reminds us why it's one of our favorite breweries. The staff is always professional, friendly, and attentive, making the experience enjoyable from the moment you arrive. We live in Texas and were in Cooperstown for a baseball tournament, which gave us another excuse to stop by. I had enjoyed Ommegang's Belgian-style beers for years, but this visit gave me the opportunity to explore more of their lineup. I was impressed by the variety of styles available, and everything I sampled was exceptionally well crafted. The food was excellent as well. The poutine was a standout and tasted every bit as authentic as the poutine I've enjoyed in Canada. It's not always easy to find great food at a brewery, but Ommegang delivers on both fronts. The setting is truly remarkable. Located on a 140-acre former hop farm just outside Cooperstown, the property feels more like a Belgian monastery than a brewery. The beautiful buildings, open spaces, and wooded surroundings create an experience that is worth the trip all by itself. The grounds are impeccably maintained and provide a perfect backdrop for enjoying a pint. Having been open since 1997, it's clear that Brewery Ommegang has had decades to refine both its beer and its operation. Everything feels polished, welcoming, and thoughtfully designed. Hands down, this is one of the coolest breweries I have ever visited. Great beer, excellent food, fun activities, beautiful scenery, and outstanding service make Brewery Ommegang a place that we look forward to returning to every time we're in the area.

There's typically about 20 beers on tap, and there's enough variety and familiarity - combined with flavored hard seltzer pours - to satisfy anyone's wish list for a flight. The space is comfortable, to allow conversation to flow freely among your own friends and everyone sitting near you. And don't forget about the dogs demanding your attention at this dog-friendly site. I appreciate the growing number of breweries in the Glens Falls-Lake George area, but honestly, if I'm coming to the area with friends, we'll come here first.

I also had their poutine recently. I can live with the vegetarian turkey gravy, which tasted pretty good, cheese curds were OK but what's going on with these fries? Soggy, brown. Are they brown because they're fry oil is disgusting? Are they just cooking the crap out of these things. I can't imagine that's the case because they're not crispy at all and taste awful. Waiting and bar staff seem to be wonderful people- they're attentive, food comes out relatively quickly. Service is not rushed. Atmosphere in this place is pretty good though I would like to have the music turned up a little bit louder so it's just not background noise and so you can actually hear the lyrics or discern what song is being played. Music done right can be part of the experience. Right now it's just a soft rumble in the background and it just becomes an annoyance. There's literally been extensive research on music in your restaurant and bar and how loud it's supposed to be and the music selection. Why places like this pay absolutely no attention to that research is beyond me. MUSIC IS IMPORTANT! Treat it that way please. So that forces patrons to choose the "run a tab" option even if just dropping in for one beer. Problem 2: This policy feels needlessly suspicious and hostile, as if USB doesn't trust their (almost exclusively well-heeled) clientele to pay. And this isn't some busy NYC bar where people occasionally walk on tabs. And bowhere else I've been in Hudson does this. If Governor's or Padrona tried it, regulars would look at the server like an extraterrestrial. Management might want to take a chill pill and try trusting their patrons more; Hudson is still a small town. Take the order, do a good job, give us a bill when we're ready... After the drinks and food are finished.
