As I was telling my adult daughter; the entire procedure from first rinse to me walking out the door was only about 20 minutes long. The Dr is so skilled at the Novocaine injections that I was amazed. If you can hold it together for about 2 minutes-you'll be fully numb in no time. The procedure itself consisted of one minute of toughing it out while he did the actual pulling. No pain, just pressure and conquering my fear. I can do just about anything for one or two minutes. The rest was downhill from there. Drove myself home with no issues-as I stayed awake for the procedure. Would definitely make a point of coming back to Dr Payami and his team if the need arises in the future.

He talked to me the whole time I was in the chair and let me know exactly what was going on and not worry about what was happening. He asked frequently if I was okay and to raise my hand at anytime I felt discomfort. Dr Wiston called me that afternoon to ask how I was doing which was very appreciated. Some of the lower reviews are about front of the office staff, which I vaguely recall being a bit gruff, 10+ years ago but everyone the past few years have been lovely. I have had two root canals (hey I'm 40 such is life) and one was done excellently by Dr. Chris during 2020 in COVID. He did a great job relieving the pain I had been in for a few months. Anyway, highly recommend this practice 10 out of 10 for the last decade or so.

However, he talks so fast and assumes you understand everything he is saying at warp speed, I rarely know what he is saying about problems, treatments, etc. When you ask him to slow down or ask questions, he appears annoyed. He makes lots and lots of referrals for procedures (which he assures you he knows how to do, but would prefer you go elsewhere) and his referrals are in distant locations (CT, Harriman, etc.)-for folks in pain and with limited time constraints, this is impractical. Surely there are specialists in the MIddletown area who offer these services. His office staff is a nightmare. They lie, plain and simple. They will tell you whatever it takes to get you in the office, and then say "oh, she should not have told you that, we cannot do that, or that is not what she said" and make you think you are nuts. Gaslighting. Dentistry is expensive and I understand some of the reasons why. A good dentist is worth their fee. Dr. O'Brien charges more than average, in my experience, and not where I am going to spend my healthcare dollars.
