This clinic is out in a rural area, much of their clientele are poor and sickly, salaries must be pretty low, and they have had some problems with turnover. And I would have to see a LPN or PA rather than an MD. But they have been excellent. My previous dr was a big city internist from a famous medical school who had been highly recommended, but the PA I see at Blue Ridge has been a BETTER provider. He gets to know you, his information flow is excellent on medicines, treatments, medical conditions, his knowledge is extensive and up to date, and he strikes a perfect balance between recommending options and providing information to let me make decisions. I can post questions and requests to the patient portal and they usually call me the next day with a response. Another nice touch is the lack of authoritarian status games -- the providers go by their first names. Plus the facility is very nice, the staff have been professional, and they don't make you wait a lot. My doubts were misplaced. I can recommend this facility whole heartedly.

In our case, we were looking for a facility that had; 1) Private room 2) Didn't feel institutionalized 3) Peaceful & Quiet 4) Located in Rockbridge County Havenwood met all of our needs. We have experience with almost every other facility in Rockbridge County and Havenwood is by far the most peaceful without the hustle/bustle of the larger facilities with multiple in-house programs. Havenwood also has a relaxed "home" feeling. Havenwood was exactly what we needed as there was a deep desire to not be poked/prodded and to be left alone. Havenwood staff checks-in often but makes conscious efforts to be as least intrusive as possible. I gave Havenwood a four start review because I am comparing the facility against other facilities that we've had experiences with. While there are no issues with the facility, it is not on par with other 5-star facilities outside of the county in Botetourt & Roanoke. The room & board is much lower than those facilities as well. Havenwood was exactly what we sought and has met our needs. Private, quite, no frills, no drama, and reasonably priced.

The front porch has rocking chairs that allow a great view of the scenery. The place isn't fancy but it is clean and comfy. Occupancy allows 45 people (there are 19 residents at the moment). The social and dining area are near the front entrance. Residents can watch television together in the front "living room" area. The bathroom is spacious. A wardrobe "closet" was in the room, as well as a regular closet & dresser. My family member did not want a tv in the room. The staff is nice. A chaplain visited while we were in the room. There are also volunteers who visit the facility when patients want company. My family member is in the hospice program.
