I grew up in near poverty in the 70s before fluoridated water programs were widespread. As an adult with a near 20-year history of Lupus, I wanted those toxic-waste fillings OUT of my mouth. I received an unexpected amount of money that had been just sitting in the TX state treasury, and decided to use it for their removal. The gift of health! It has been 7 years since that procedure and my current dentist says my dental work was exquisitely done as observed via X-rays and inspection, and continues to serve me very, very well. I paid extra to get a special test at the time, so that my new replacement filling material was biologically compatible and affordable. I keep that very detailed test data to this day, for it contains info. about my bio. compatibility to the medical materials used in the making of other medical equipment/ prosthetics, e.g., hip and knee replacements, etc. At least, it will be a starting point to avoid possible rejection or allergic reaction. Thank you for your holistic dentistry expertise, precision, and professionalism, Dr. Devening. I may never return to Lexington, Virginia, as I was a PhD student at the time doing the long drive in from Virginia Tech, but I never regretted choosing your practice over others, thanks to the beautifully scenic route to your office and to the excellent quality of service I received under your care.

I am not qualified to pass judgement on a physician's professional competence in the field he or…read moreshe practices. I am a trained social scientist with a PhD, not a medical doctor with an MD. I can only relate my experience. I was referred to Dr. Corey C. Burgoyne by my dentist for a simple extraction of a back tooth. Why? Because he did not do extractions. After paying--up front!--a so-called "consultation fee," which proved to be no more than to tell me how many hundred dollars she would receive for extracting the tooth--which also had to be paid right then--she proceeded to numb the area and pull the tooth in the same manner as any dentist. It took only a few minutes. I smiled, as best I could with my jaw numbed, and asked if she got it all out. She said, "Yes!" It became evident, after a few weeks, that she did not in fact get all of the tooth out. A piece of tooth worked its way to the surface. Now that is really not all that unusual. It does happen. So, I went back to Dr. Burgoyne. She took a tweezers and pulled it out. Again, I asked if she got it all out. Again, she answered, "Yes." After a couple of months, it became apparent that a rather large piece of tooth was left firmly in place. Tissue had grown over it, but when I had a partial denture made, the presence of the piece of bone became very apparent. I called Dr. Burgoyne's office to make an appointment for her to finish the job she had started, only to find out that I would have to schedule another so-called consultation to find out just how much it was going to cost me for her to finish the job she failed to successfully complete earlier. And of course, the hundred bucks consultation fee, plus whatever she chose to charge to finish the extraction, would all no doubt need to be paid in advance. Immediately, I wondered if I would be paying in advance for another "attempt" to remove the remaining piece of tooth. After two tries, would she get it right the third time? And why should I pay to have the attempt at extracting the tooth finished, or done right, however one looks at it? Looking at other reviews of Dr. Burgoyne's work, mine was not the only time she failed to remove the whole tooth. Dr. Burgoyne has relieved many positive reviews, even some very glowing reviews. She is not a general dentist, but a surgeon. As a specialist, she deserves to be paid for her expertise. Perhaps she is better at serious surgery than simple tooth extractions. Perhaps she finds pulling a tooth too simple. I cannot say. I can only look back on my experience wishing I had not been referred to her. I needed a dentist who could pull a tooth. Dr. Burgoyne seemed to be more concerned about how many excuses she could find to add additional charges, a hundred for this, a couple more for that, etc. My experience has left me with no confidence in Dr. Burgoyne, and I would not recommend her, not even for a simple tooth extraction.

It all started with the young lady Emily that booked my surgery. My schedule is not flexible due to traveling for work. It literally took her 15 minutes to find me an appointment time that was convenient for myself and Dr. Burgoyne. The procedure and heal time went better than expected. In every-way all my expectations were exceeded. I would recommend anyone in need of their services to give them a call.
