I promised my kiddos donuts before our long roadtrip home, and Apple maps led me to Drop In Donuts. There were only a few flavors left to choose from (since I arrived mid-morning) but they were delicious. My twins loved the strawberry donut and the vanilla with sprinkles. My 9 year old was a huge fan of the chocolate with choclate sprinkles. I decided to try the Mexican chocolalte and it was incredible. It had a delicious chocolate taste and just a hint of spice. As soon as I tried it, I regretted not getting any of the other interesting flavors. My wife and I tried Drop In donuts on a weekend trip to Fort Bragg and Mendocino. These donuts were a highlight of our food tour! What really makes them stand out are their flavors and their texture. We tried chocolate, blueberry, apple cider, and milk stout, and they nailed the flavors on each one. The texture also may initially surprise some, but my wife and I both loved that these donuts were soft, chewy, and nicely yeasty - they kind of have the texture of a sweet, soft roll rather than an airy-melt-in-your-mouth type donut. Personally, I prefer these heartier style donuts. Another plus, even though they're obviously deep fried donuts, they weren't greasy at all. I'm not sure how they managed that! Stopped in earlier today during a torrential downpour, and we had an awesome experience! The owner was really kind, and even though she was working by herself, she moved as quickly as possible to get our donuts together while also making our drinks. We even got a couple of freebies because we had to wait all of 10-15 minutes - even though it was not necessary, I thought that was really sweet of her to do that for us! Everything we ordered was so delicious, and the shop had such a cute and relaxed vibe. Was traveling through Fort Bragg and so glad I found this place! Their donuts have unique glazes (I got the blood orange ginger donut and it was so delicious I returned again that same morning and bought another), and there's a delightful chewiness to the dough that I've never tasted elsewhere...now every donut I have I'll compare to this one. Yummy! We stopped in after hearing good things from friends, and were not disappointed. We tried the cinnamon roll, chocolate donut and vanilla bean donut (with a nice big cup of coffee). All were really tasty. The donut texture is a little chewy compared to some donuts I've had elsewhere, but not in a bad way at all, just different. Nice staff and the raspberry donut tasted like raspberries but the donut itself was chewy. As if they over mixed the dough and all the gluten made it a wad of bubblegum instead of a airycloud from heaven. The other issue is since I only ordered one donut, they put it in a small pastry bag.
