Had them do service on my AC unit since it was not blowing cold anymore. After 4 hrs waiting they claimed there was a leak and to troubleshoot it. They claimed it was my blower motor. Wanted $5000 to fix it. Took it to another shop for another quote. The other shop asked if anyone had done work on the AC and we said yes. They found no Freon and the relay that runs the AC blower motor was missing. The shop replaced the relay and added Freon. It works perfectly now. Stay away from the con artists. read more

I was quoted over $700 for rear brake work, and when I asked why it was so expensive, they offered me an almost $300 discount--red flag! They claimed my brakes and rotors were fused and that I needed new rotors as well. After shopping around, I decided to take my car to Toyota to replace the original parts, including the rotors and brakes, for $479. I made an appointment at Toyota the next morning and took my car in. After an inspection by Toyota, I was told that I still had 5,000 miles left on the brakes and that nothing the previous shop told me was true. Please stay away from these people--they are very dishonest. If I hadn't double-checked, I would have paid for unnecessary work. I will never go there again! read more

Just purchased 2 new tires 2 months ago and got a buldge in one. They claim it's all my fault I must have hit something.. they didn't even see the tire. I called to ask if it could be a defect in the tire and they went straight to blaming me! No looking at the tire just the default is to blame the customer. If you are the owner feel free to call me. I have no tolerance for mechanics that falsify diagnosis and try to sell things that aren't necessary as soon as they see a female. Heck, they may be trying to scam everyone, but as a girl I'm used to it They tried several years ago to sell me a head gasket because of "catastrophic oil loss". I knew my compression was fine and that my oil was clean, so I asked to see. When I walked under the lift, I reached over and tightened the oil pan plug--which had been loosened. Purchased two new tires and the balancing weights fell off on a return trip from out of town that caused a major vibration that in turn jostled something underneath the car and caused a loud rattle. This place is great! I will be back! My old reliable stand-by garage owner retired from his business. I tried a different shop closer to my home in Plano and was not impressed and considerably poorer. (They found "this and that" and it became "a lot.") I looked to Yelp and found Driver's Edge McKinney. They had a number of 5 star reviews. I called for an oil change, thinking I would need to make an appointment. Todd answered and said, "Bring it in." I asked, "Do I need and appointment?" He said, "No, bring it in." I was afraid that meant I might be waiting for an hour or more, so I brought a book and a newspaper. To my surprise, they took my car righ in and before I could finish a chapter in my book, my car was done. The price was reasonable AND I was HOME within an hour of leaving. Much like another reviewer posted for this place, I too went to get minor maintenance done only to have to have my car towed back to the dealership maybe 30 minutes later after leaving because my engine now overheats and after turning my car off to let the engine cool down it doesn't want to start. I had an alignment and a brake system flush done to my 2015 Acura TLX, never been to this dealership for maintenance because I used to go to David McDavid for that before they closed, now I'm without a car until Monday because whoever worked on my vehicle yesterday messed something up. We took my wife's paid in full 2012 Kia Sorento into Damon a couple weeks ago because the car was having trouble starting. After Damon did the diagnostic on the car there was a number of things wrong above and beyond what we thought including cracked radiator and the car was in need of the 100k tune up. All in the bill was $2500 for the numerous repairs which we thought was a gamble, but beats a car payment for 5 years anytime. The car runs like new now and my wife has stopped asking for a new car. I have asked them on multiple occasions if I really needed a repair recommendation, and I feel like that was always answered thoughtfully and transparently. I went there to have my motorcycle inspected on Saturday and was in and out within 15 minutes. They didn't even charge me for this. We were all loaded up and on the road for our vacation when we had a bunch of warning lights pop up. We had recently bought our vehicle from Bob Thomes Ford, so I called their service dept. they told me that they wouldn't be able to look at the vehicle for at least two days. That was unacceptable as we needed to be on the road for our road trip. I called Driver's Edge and they were able to immediately get me in and I had a diagnosis a short time later. Incompetent and dishonest. Took my car to get loosing wiring fixed on a sensor, was told wiring is done but sensor is faulty (LIE) and needs to be replaced. Head mechanic told sensor can't be change by itself so whole part of engine needs to replaced (LIE) and cost will $1000+ . I took my car to different mechanic and found they did the wiring wrong initially, nothing was wrong with sensor or the engine. Got my car fixed for $50. Called the store back to get explanation and assistant manage told me "we stand behind our mechanic." Bad customer service is one thing but at least apologize for your mistake. Totally rude men attended the front desk. No greeting and no eye contact. I explained I was coming for a state inspection, the guy looked at me with a total blank face. He then asked me where my car was parked and I said in front of the garage in line behind the others,he says I need to place it in a parking spot, to which I said I would if I could register and not loose my spot, he said no. I came back from parking my car and two people were already ahead of me. I left my car and came back to pick it up, I thanked him and he didn't even answered. Totally rude and unprofessional treatment to customers. I'm never going back there!! 10/26/17 update: Last week I received a call from manager Steve offering a sincere apology for the occurred events of my visit. He believes they are able to correct customer service and they would like to keep my business. The front desk staff also called to offer an apology and reiterated their commitment to great customer satisfaction. I have to say that if a company is willing to go the extra mile and apologize for when things don't go great or as expected, it is definitely worth giving them another try. I walked in at 6:31 pm tonight with my 3 yr old. I was asked how I could be helped and when I said I needed a state inspection, the friendly greeting turned into the unsure and stuttering response of, "Uh...well, we're actually done for the day." I looked a my watch, then at the direct mail flyer that had inticed me to give Driver's Edge a try. On the direct mail flyer it says, "Amazing hours, Mon-Sat 7am-7pm," so I looked up, puzzled. I lifted the flyer to eye level and stated that the flyer says you're open until 7 pm. The employee, who was standing next to another employee checking out the only other customer in the place, said, "We're finishing up some other customers." I looked inquisitively past the two employees and customer at the checkout and into the 4-bay lanes that hold 2 cars each like any other Kwik Kar at which I normally have service done. I saw only 3 cars (I may have missed a 4th, but that still leaves 4 open spots). I was done at this point. No other customers physically waiting for their vehicles. One customer checking out. At least two employees with seemingly nothing to do but wait for the clock to hit 7 pm. A new customer with expensive marketing materials in hand who is waiting to convert that expenditure into what I'm sure is a measurable ROI, and several open bays; yet I'm told at 6:31 pm that "We don't serve your kind here," to quote Star Wars. The service takes 15 min (at least at Kwik Kar). I took my sons hand and said, "I won't be back," and left out the front door. I work with local businesses on a daily basis. I actually help develop web based products for local businesses to help market and improve their online reputation through feedback and then work to convert that positive sentiment into leads that generate business. After consulting with hundreds and hundreds of local businesses, let me explain the bear trap that plagues their perception: that it's not their fault. Somehow, they aren't responsible for converting the lead when it shows up, in this case physically, in their lobby. Driver's Edge, in this case, chose to market locally through direct mail, which in the early 00's had about a 1-1 1/2% conversion rate. It's probably about the same or less now with the rise of digital. I was to be included in that percentage for this specific campaign. I had a need. They were going to fill it. Or so I thought. Because a couple of employees decided that they were going to clock out at 7 pm on the dot (who knows if they actually stayed to "finish up some other customers," who were nowhere to be seen); this campaign is a failure. If the same attitude continues, who knows how much other revenue is and has been left on the table. Driver's Edge, when a lead shows up in your lobby and you literally turn him away during advertised open hours, do not wonder why your ROI isn't higher. Know this: it's your fault. I will thank you for one thing. As my son was asking me questions about why were were leaving so quickly after arrival, I was able to have a very impressionable conversation on the meaning of hypocrite. Driver's Edge - "Closing soon," actually already closed - Auto Repair Near Me - McKinney, Texas

Terrible, terrible experience as a first time (and last time) customer. My car's AC went out, plus I needed a state inspection. I decided to try Driver's Edge in McKinney since it's close. I dropped off my car about 6 pm on 6/15 so they could start looking at it first thing in the morning on 6/16. Everything seemed OK when I dropped it off. At 12:30 pm on 6/16, I had not heard from them, so I called and was told they are looking at my car now. At 1 pm I received a call from the Driver's Edge in Allen. The guy admitted he had called me by mistake. He was trying to call the Driver's Edge in McKinney. He told me that my car was taken to Allen for diagnosis because the McKinney shop didn't have a mechanic. I was seriously taken aback by this news since my car was driven 6 miles without anyone telling me or asking for my permission. The guy from Allen told me the McKinney shop would be calling me with information about my car soon. Eventually 4 pm rolls around and no one has contacted me about my car. I then called the McKinney shop and asked for status. The guy said "we had to take it to Allen because we didn't have a technician". At least that was truthful. Then he said "the Allen shop can't get to it until tomorrow". WTF! Immediately I told him to forget about the whole thing. I did not want these people to have my car one minute longer. At first he said he'd need to go retrieve my car from Allen. I said "No, I will go pick it up in Allen right now." He called the Allen shop to confirm this would be okay, which is was. I drove to Allen and got my car. So... approximately 24 hours had elapsed and the only thing that had happened was my car was driven 6 miles south. Although I was not charged any money, my time was wasted and I was not reimbursed for the gas they used driving my car to Allen. read more

The only thing more frustrating buying a car and trying to get a honest deal is trying to find a good shop to get the vehicle serviced, especially after the warranty runs out. In the past, I've had some bad experiences along that line. But after finding Driver's Edge, I don't need to look any further. They've quickly become my go-to shop for all things automotive. Let me explain... I drive a Jeep Wrangler that's got more than 100,000 miles on it. I keep it well-maintained, but at over 100k miles, things DO wear out. Since I found them, I've had them do a brake job, replace the manual transmission's clutch, and handle my regularly-scheduled maintenance/oil changes. I've found them to be more than professional, friendly, and willing to go the extra mile to make sure I'm satisfied. Here are some specific examples: When I needed the brake job, they recommended front and rear brakes. But to help with the cost, they suggested I wait on the rear brakes, as they weren't critical. That helped - a lot. When the clutch went out, I was out of town. They arranged to have it towed - gratis - over 30 miles, so they could do the work. AND their price was easily 20% lower than the shop out of town, where I first took it. They never try and up-sell me on unnecessary service, and have shown me, time and time again, that whatever they recommend, I can trust. Here's another example: six months after my brake job, I found the parking brake had to be pulled up to the farthest point, in order to keep the vehicle from slipping down the driveway. When I brought it in to diagnose a different problem, they asked "anything else going on with it?" I mentioned the parking brake. They said they'd take a look. Driver's Edge fixed the parking brake AT NO CHARGE. In my book, that's going above and beyond - they could have easily said it was "not covered," and I would have understood. If honesty, quality, and integrity are important to you when looking for auto repairs and service, trust the guys at Driver's Edge. They won't let you down. read more

Don at Driver's Edge is honest, trustworthy, and overall a great employee. I came in Saturday morning to get a diagnostic test done on my car (check engine light came on) and he was able to determine that it was due to a cracked catalytic converter. It turned out that the cracked converter could have been due to a car accident I had a couple months ago when I was rear ended. Even though I didn't get my car repaired through Driver's Edge (not because I didn't want to but because Progressive requested I have it repaired through original shop that fixed my car after the accident), Don took his time to explain to me in detail what the issues were and what steps I need to take since this involved auto insurance. He never pushed for me to get it repaired at his shop since he knew I had initially gone elsewhere. Needless to say, I will definitely be going back for any future vehicle issues. read more

I have been taking my vehicle to Driver's Edge since we moved to Texas, and I try to get to this location specifically for work as much as possible because they are so great, especially during my most recent experience. I made the mistake of taking my vehicle to another cheap shop closer to home in Plano for a brake job, and I could not regret that decision more. This other shop did such an atrocious job that a week and a half later my vehicle couldn't even make it to my job in Mckinney. Luckily I was able to get it in to these guys, where they determined that I was going to need another complete brake job. EVERY. SINGLE. COMPONENT. My truck was worse off that before my brakes were even worked on! After already having had a poor experience with the other shop, I reached out to them and explained the situation to which they denied responsibility. David, who I believe was my main point of contact through this whole fiasco, went above and beyond to make sure that I was taken care of. They spent all day (and I really do mean all day! 8AM-6PM) locating and repairing the damage that had been caused by the garbage brake job done by the other shop. He took several pictures and videos and spent extra time to do a detailed write up of everything that needed repair and what caused the damage. They also made sure to save all of the damaged parts for me. David did his best to help me out in every way that he could, and I could not be more grateful. I now have a working vehicle again and more than enough proof to hold the other shop responsible for their poor work. I have continued to come back to these guys because they have always been honest and I have never felt that they were trying to push unnecessary repairs. read more
