Pure Barre in Toledo…read more I haven't been disappointed in the ethics of business like this in a long time. I bought a one month membership and was placed immediately, days after purchase, on a Covid wing assignment in Southern Ohio. I called back immediately and said I wouldn't be able to attend and can I please have a refund. I had not even taken one class. They said they would extend my membership by a week, which would do nothing so I sent them an email further clarifying the situation expecting them to be like, 'oh my goodness, we didn't understand, of course.' Their response was that, 'this is a really good deal.' I was shocked. I emailed them back in disbelief...'are you really not refunding me?' They didn't even have the courtesy to email me back. I was kind, polite and patient and they are literally stealing from clients as there was no exchange of goods for services paid. So if you have a busy schedule, or for any reason may need to cancel, these are the ethics of the people you are dealing with. Just go in knowing that.

When I found out I would be traveling to Michigan for Thanksgiving, I knew I had to find a class in the area to satisfy my 'barre addiction.' I am so glad I found Relevé! Relevé is a barre fitness studio located right off Woodward in Birmingham. It's small so the classes feel more intimate and you have better visibility from the instructors. There is also a lot of parking available, so it's easy to just pop in and start the class (as opposed to a huge commercial studio/gym in which you have to park far away, go through locker rooms, etc.). I attended three classes when I was in town - one with Donna (cardio) and two with Beth (basic and cardio). They are both WONDERFUL instructors (with beautiful ballet bodies, so you know this class works!) and gave me very challenging workouts. They were both patient, knowledgeable and able to describe the different moves and benefits as we transitioned from section to section. I instantly felt the 'burn' and lots of good shaking in my muscles during each of our sets. If you are unfamiliar with barre, I highly encourage you to check out barre and this studio. You don't have to be an expert ballerina to do well- you just have to have a positive mental attitude and a willingness to work hard. You will notice changes in your body immediately! The studio is super nice and they put forth a lot of effort to keep it that way. I will admit I didn't enjoy my first 3 classes. Anna called me to ask how she could help & at my 4th class she really helped me understand the workout and I was hooked!! It's a great workout and major stress relief :) I've been to other studios across the country and this one is by far the best :)

The workouts are great and the instructors get to know you and help you stay motivated. There is no dedicated spot for shoes in the front, but they make up for it by having twice bathrooms. Pure barre is an excellent program. In addition to the fees, the only thing you need is sticky socks. They provide the rest of the equipment.

I thought I would be all dialed in and let me tell you....that class kicked my butt. When the first five minutes of class starts with old school pushups, you know you are in for it. Great music, high intensity, lots of reps. Has more of a strength training vibe than barre3 and no real cooldown at the end.
