As a wholehearted yelper, I get exited and filled with joy, when I find places like this one and am able to share the experience with the community so others can enjoy it as well. For some time now, I was meaning to explore this establishment located in the Grandin Village neighborhood of Southwest Roanoke, which from the simple storefront doesn't reveal the mystery and excitement that lies within. Founded by Muscaro in 2019, it was designed as a "multifunctional neighborhood wine bar, shop, and eatery where guests can enjoy tastings, purchase bottles, or rent out the place." Inside, it is rustically decorated with grape leaves hanging from the ceiling, wooden shelves overflowing with wine bottles, lush plants, and blackboards filled with ingenious sayings about wine. As if this fascinating decor wasn't enough, inside, I had the privilege of meeting Karen -- a lady with a beautiful personality, who hosts you from the moment you walk in, and makes you feel welcome. She told me about the wine tastings, the bottles for sale, the outdoor patio seating, and their small-plate menu "featuring charcuterie, caprese salads, sandwiches, and flatbreads." Since I was driving, I asked if she had an alcohol removed wine, and she immediately suggested a bottle of Fre, a Cabernet Sauvignon wine, from the California vineyards. I ordered one, together with the Charcuterie Board 2 from the menu. She asked me to have a seat at my preferred table and after I did, she brought me a bottle of cold water with a glass. Then she came back with the bottle of wine and a nice wine glass. She also came with a wine glass of her own filled with a small amount of another wine, and told me she always toasts with her guests after opening their wine bottle. Afterwards, I also had a Sidestreet Vinney sandwich as well, and watched how she did the wine tasting with other customers at the bar. I highly recommend this place. I can assure you that you will have a one-of-a-kind experience there. One that you will never forget.

So I was a little unsure whether the wine selection at Beliveau Farm Winery would be for me. But I'm happy to say that these guys are making some great wine. Yvan and Joyce, the owners, know what they are doing in terms of grapes and wine, because they have traveled and enjoyed wine from all around the world. They have a good thing going on here. When I visited, I did a wine tasting, which was paired with different flavored potato chips. So I got to taste several different wines. I'm more of a red wine gal, but one of my favorites at Beliveau is the Crazy Professor, which is a white wine blend: Vidal Blanc, Chardonel, Pinot Gris. They also have a tasty Cab Franc (one of my favorites, too), and another Crazy Professor wine, but this one is a red called The Professor's Crazy Estate Blend, which is Cab Franc, Syrah, Merlot and Tempranillo. Almost all of my favorites in one bottle! So, yes, you will find some great Virginia wines here. You can enjoy a glass indoors or outdoors. I hope you sit outdoors, though, because the grounds are beautiful and expansive. This place is kid-friendly and pet-friendly, too. There's lots of open space for kids to run around, and some big rocks for them to climb on.

It is an amazing spot to enjoy quality time relaxing or sharing a glass with special people. Highly recommend! After having been selected as number 4 of Yelp's Top 50 most prolific Elites of 2025, a year when I was also awarded the Yelp Triad Squad Photographer of the Year Award at their Yelpies 2025 Award Ceremony, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, and where last year I was awarded the Yelp Triad Squad Yelper of the Year Award, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants and businesses, and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to uncover those found in hidden paths that for one reason or another have not reached the public in its totality. And Stave & Cork in Downtown Salem, Virginia is a perfect example. As soon as I arrived, an elegant yet friendly lady greeted and welcomed me, explaining this unique establishment and what it had to offer. I explained how today I came to learn about the place and have dinner with a non-alcoholic drink since I was driving. She served me a glass of water and explained the different items on the menu. The menu included artisanal cheeses, charcuterie boards, house-made dips, and made-to-order paninis, as well as a Cheesecake Flight sweet. I ordered the Peaks of Otter Panini which contained Pulled Pork, Swiss Cheese, Pickles, and Mustard. And was served with kettle fried potato chips. While I waited for my order to be served on one of their beautiful polished walnut tables, I observed how some guests had a Wine Flight paired with a Charcuterie Board. And how their knowledgeable staff and owner guided the guests through unique varietals. When my food was ready it was brought to my table. The Peaks of Otter Panini was amazing. It had fresh, juicy pieces of pork, that together with the Swiss cheese, pickles, and mustard tasted more like a gourmet Cuban Sandwich. And the chips were also fresh and crispy. Before leaving I walked around and noticed they had a back dining room as well as an outside dining area. Their wine selection focused on small, boutique wineries, offering a diverse range of local, domestic, and international wines. They also had some shelves full of local artists woodwork items for sale. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review to get a better sense of the place and its high-quality food, wines, and products from local artists. On my way out I met with a local couple of friends and remained talking with them for almost an hour. Again, I highly recommend this place and am looking forward to returning with some friends.

We couldn't decide at first between a flight or a glass of wine so we were offered a splash of the chardonnay to help us decide. We both went with a glass and got a generous pour for $12. A group of friends and I visited Valhalla Vineyards during a weekend trip to Roanoke in October 2020. This place was a nice but short trip outside the city, allowing us an opportunity to see the beautiful countryside nearby. After a winding drive uphill, you'll reach Valhalla Vineyards, beautifully situated at a height that offers beautiful views of Roanoke and the areas around. The fields look lovely, and they've done a really nice job building up areas to sit and relax both inside their tasting room as well as on the many nice picnic areas outside - again all with stunning views. Due to COVID restrictions there were no tastings or flights on offer when we went, and we could only purchase wine by the glass. We tried a number of wines and I enjoyed a couple reds, specifically the Valkyrie ones. I found their white wines to be more drinkable -- please note we weren't having these with food, so maybe the reds come across better with some appropriate, accompanying meal. At the same time, people all around us were not complaining about the wine but having a great time and I saw plenty of folks go up for seconds, or order entire bottles to open on-site. Glasses were only $8 and the pours were very generous, so it was a solid value for a good time, a great view, and nice wine. As they continue to grow, their vines will mature further and their wines will be even better!
