Only in Dallas would this be considered a 4 out of 5 star coffee shop. Starbucks coffee by any other name is still a Starbucks, and since that's what Dallas knows, it's what Drip! provides. Whether it's locally roasted or not is irrelevant - good coffee is good, bad coffee is bad. The end. Sure, we can talk about the atmosphere: it's shit. Horribly rigid and uninviting. The staff are standoffish and, in my case, combative. What did I do to deserve such scorn? Story time! My friend has been nagging me to go to Drip! for a while. Nagging in the good way as he is a chef and has never steered me wrong before. So, after grabbing some lovely Al's pizza we head to Drip! to indulge in lovely cappuccinos. Why cappuccinos from a place called "Drip!"? Because I'm a masochist, that's why. My chef friend orders a decaf drip, my wife orders a chai latte and my other friend and I both get cappuccinos. This is where the second error occurs. My first was noticing that they use the same machines as Starbucks - which auto-grind, tamp and pull your espresso - the crappiest ones in the entire business. High quality my ass. The 1000-yard-stare sporting stoner ass behind the counter gets my friend's order wrong. How can you confuse "small" with "medium"? You smoke too much pot on the job, that's how. All right. So, our "cappuccinos" come out - I use quotes because it was just about the farthest thing from a cappuccino as it gets, as if the cappuccinos parents were cousins and they came out just a bit sad and wrong and not the good kind of wrong - and they were all foam. Quite literally an inch and a half or more of foam. This is NOT A CAPPUCCINO. The underlying espresso had NONE OF THE TEXTURE of a cappuccino nor any of the bittersweet aroma or taste of the genuine article. The product of damaged goods. I mull over telling the staff about this, but seeing as how this was the second cappuccino I've had from a locally owned shop in Dallas (out of 12) that was made like this (the other was at another yuppie favorite, White Rock Coffee, who advertise themselves in the exact same fashion - "locally roasted quality coffee!") I decided to push on and voice my discontent. I walk up to Jeff Spicoli. "That machine's an auto-grind and tamper isn't it?" I am faced with a blank stare. The horror! Good God, he must be thinking, a customer's asking me questions and my pot-addled mind no longer has the processing power required to coherently function as a human being! "Wha?" he asks. "That espresso machine. It auto-grinds, tamps and pulls the coffee, right?" I ask. "Yeah." he mumbles, perhaps imagining that I am a giant doobie for him to take out back and smoke and shirk his responsibilities to his "job". "Well, I have to tell you that that was one of the worst cappuccinos I've ever had. I literally took two sips and then threw it out." I say. INSERT A HORRIFICALLY LONG PAUSE HERE and then... he goes on the offensive. "Oh yeah, really? Coffee is subjective, man. And we're one of the most highly rated in the city and we've won TONS of awards." (A quick search of Google and the Observer shows this to be a lie, but I won't say he's lying because this one website I found slathered TONS of praise onto Drip! coffee. Do you know what it was? OHMYGODYOU'LLNEVERBELIVEIT, it was... dripcoffeeco.com! Do you think they're related?) This pissed me off, and I HATE pulling the "I'm in the industry!" card. Oh well! "Look, buddy, I'm a barista for (redacted - one of the most renowned coffee companies in America, the company which brought true artisan coffee roasting to the US and which taught Starbucks founders how to roast coffee), so we can go back and forth all day long about how to make a cappuccino, but this isn't it." "Well what do you want me to do about it?" Jeff Spicoli replies, probably fantasizing about teenaged girls. "I know it's unheard of in this industry, but I'd like a refund." At this point two velociraptors came out, one from the kitchen and the other from the front door. I thought for sure I was done for but suddenly a Tyrannosaurus Rex lurched through the roof and ate them, saving my life as the "When Dinosaurs Roamed The Earth" banner fell from the ceiling. Oh wait, no, that didn't really happen, but I imagine it was what was going through the pothead's mind as he stared off into space. Perhaps he was planning to go for my neck? I've seen Reefer Madness, I know what goes on in their brains! "I can give you a free coffee card and that's it." he dribbles out after what felt like an Avatar-length pause. "Sure, fine, whatever." He hands it to me and I give it to my friend the chef. "Here, you can have this, I won't be using it." As I'm walking out I'm almost run over by a braindead yuppie piloting the 767 of strollers, which is a fitting close to this review because that's exactly the type of clientele Drip! is aiming for. I never knew this cute local Highland Park joint existed. I think it serves more as a regular hang out for parkies, however I wish they would expand their greatness throughout the metroplex. They roast their own coffee, which makes it a true independent coffee shop with a great, simple menu. Although there is not much else to the atmosphere of this place, it has a bright, refreshing vibe about it. To the right there is this grand wall that encompasses most of the shop. I stood there perplexed while I tried to figure out what material covered the wall. After studying the wall and scaring the other customers, the best conclusion I could come to is that the wall was made of the same material used on pool tables? I think it is an attempt of being 'contemporary' and 'artsy'. Either way, I liked it and it worked. The staff is friendly and helpful. The coffee is rich, smooth, and tasty. To be fair the first few times I only ordered the regular coffee. Therefore, I can't say much about their menu. But, the other day I did try their iced mocha. This is a rad coffee shop. Considering how many Americans indulge in coffee every day, it's a shame so few get their java from a local shop that roasts their own beans. Drip does just that and you can tell. Very fresh, clean and full of varying flavors. My favorite thing to order is their cold brew, ESPECIALLY on nitrogen. So creamy, it really lends itself to the heat of a Texan summer. I could drink it all daaaay looooong. I stopped by Drip yesterday in my search for a "non big chain" coffee in Dallas and was pleased. I had their small caramel latte and was surprised that it was only $3! I would prefer it a little stronger as I'm a hair on your chest coffee kind of girl, so next time I would order an extra shot. I had been wanting a pastry but they looked pretty pathetic so I passed, only cheese danish and some funky looking croissants, but that could be because it was closer to 1 pm than 6 am. Of course, the traffic and parking on Lover's in this area requires patience and fortitude, I had to make the block twice before I made it into the right parking lot, but keep that in mind and you'll find a nice cup of coffee! read more

Drip Coffee is awesome. Basically, the couple of things that make this place awesome are the fact that they roast their own beans, and the employees are phenomenal. The decor could stand some re-doing but that's a matter of personal opinion. I love the store front, but something about the Feng-shui inside was off... the seating, decor, etc... I don't know. I just prefer the decor at Crooked Tree or Opening Bell... that's just me I think. The people I saw attracted here were the stuck up, "I pretend like I have a lot of money" crowd... that could just be that I went in at 8am on a Friday morning. I'm not sure if this review will be of any use to anyone because my review is based on everything but the coffee. I don't really enjoy coffee, I just drink it if I know I need caffeine, so the only real standard for me is a latte option (to make it palatable), and price (comparable to Starbucks, minus maybe a quarter). The menu had a good selection (with even a few lattes, yay!) and the selection of whole bean coffee seemed very vast, which is nice. When I went in this morning shortly after opening, the staff was very nice and the pastries were all out and ready. Also, I really like the ambiance of this place. If I lived around here and needed to study, this is where I would do it. I felt inclined to write a review today during my not so pleasant visit. I've visited before, and I love their brain freezes. However today I decided to get an almond milk latte and I was sooo disappointed. It almost didn't even feel hot, it tasted like watered down coffee with cold almond milk. I had also decided to try an energy bar which had caught my eye, and it turned out to be almost $4! For an energy bar! Not even their pastry selection is all that impressive. And don't even get me started on sticking around to get some work done, their seating areas are super uncomfortable. And to use the wifi? It needs a password, which is at the bottom of your receipt. That was awesome, because I didn't even get a receipt. I'll be back because those brain freezes are to die for, but I won't stick around after that. Add my name to the list of coffee fanatics that just doesn't "get" Drip Coffee. I'm a big supporter of local shops... I really wanted to like this place. I've tried their coffee (espresso-based drinks + drip), and their iced tea. You can get better, tastier, caffeine at just about any other place in town. I can also echo what others have said on Yelp: - Wifi wasn't working on my last visit - This place does not smell the way a coffee shop should smell (and I've worked with other roasters). Perhaps it's the over-roasting, or some other issue in the back. The same slightly burnt flavor permeates the coffee. - Service could be friendlier. Pros: Great location, even though parking can be tough. This location needs a coffee joint... just another head roaster or a new direction. read more

This place has lots of seating and is bright and clean, though it feels more like a restaurant than a coffee shop. I do like the patio area up front. If you're looking to use WiFi, it only works decently inside the shop, not outside. I got a caramel macchiato in a personal cup, which they said was a large for them rather than a usual medium, meaning their prices are a little higher. Taste-wise, it was good. Employees are friendly. I think their merchandise ought to be placed in an easier location to browse while waiting for the drinks to be made rather than looking like it's hidden behind the counter area. read more

Absolutely love Drip Coffee! Each time I go in I'm even more pleasantly surprised at how awesome and friendly the staff is - a real feat to find in Highland Park! The prices here are reasonable and they roast their own beans which allow for a more flavorful coffee experience. Drip is one of my neighborhood staples. First went in 2012 and have been going back ever since. The drip coffee & lattes (hot or iced) are my staples. The drip coffee is so flavorful so you don't have to pile on the sugar and creamer to make it palatable like some other places. (beans roasted in house!) They offer almond milk (&have for a while) which is a plus for me. Not the place I go when I want to get in touch with my inner coffee snob, or when I feel like lounging around for hours to work/read (atmosphere isn't the coziest) But they're consistent, drinks are quality, and the staff is SUPER nice so they'll continue to get my business! read more

Dropped by because I was next door to pick up a bag of single origin coffee, supposedly brewed for drip. Was very excited since it was a Ethiopian Yirgacheffe, my favorite. When I opened it up, the smell was pungent and the beans were a dark black color covered in a thin film of oil, the hallmarks of a super over roasted coffee. I wouldn't dare put that in my grinder as the oils can cause major issues for a burr grinder so the $16 bag had to go straight into the trash. I didn't have any of their brewed coffee but if their roast matches what's in the bag, be prepared for a French roast Starbucks style coffee rather than what you normally get at a third wave coffee shop. They need to switch roasters because that was a serious crime to commit on a Yirgacheffe. read more

I'm really hard on coffee shops because I spend at least 2 days a week working in them. That said I thought this place was a gem but my experience today has made me question that belief. The staff, who I had previously been nice and attentive, decided that it would be a lovely day to step into a room not 6 feet from where I was sitting and bad mouth me. I had been polite, a generous tipper, friendly, and a regular customer for months. I suppose that locally owned placed can afford to treat their customers like trash when they live and work in Park Cities. C'Est la Vie. I was really happy when Drip moved into the neighborhood since I live just around the corner and can walk here in just a few minutes. So I'm definitely a fan of the location but other reviewers are correct; parking can be challenging at times. I prefer Drip to Starbucks because it's a locally owned business and I think the prices and quality are similar. Some other reviewers seem to dislike the taste of the coffee, referring to the roasting process as maybe over-roasting the beans. I have had a few bad cups of coffee here but I think, overall, the coffee is very good. It's a newer business so maybe the roasters have had a little difficulty in consistently getting the right roast on the beans.. not really sure. That is the only reason I won't be giving 5 stars with this review. Drip also serves cold brew coffee on nitro which I'm a big fan of. They also recently started bottling their cold brew coffee. The customer service is always great. They offer a small selection of pastries, protein bars, and breakfast tacos as well. The tacos are from Tacodeli but I wouldn't suggest getting them--they're too expensive and not that great in my opinion (but that's a review for Tacodeli, not Drip). Drip also has kombucha, topo chico, and a few other cold non-coffee drinks. There's a small patio that you can sit on to enjoy your drinks with your dog. The owner roasts everything on site, so non of the coffee is ever older than 10 days, he also has been in the business for many years so you are guaranteed a great tasting drink ( lattes, cappuccinos, iced coffee, you name it he can make it!). Try a "brain freeze" if you want a yummy blended, coffee ice cream tasting drink... If you want to do the healthier thing... then have a nonfat, sugar free, flavored Latte hot or iced, Tees are great too and are very good for you. Food wise they have a great selection of pastries, some sandwiches and more lunch like items.... bran muffin is probably the healthiest, along with the heart healthy vegan heart shaped treats... Other pastries are delicious but high on sugar and carbs, just like any other baked good anywhere else. But totally worth the splurge once in a while. The interior had none of that moistness that needs to prevalent. They offer good bold coffee and a handful of espresso. First, the bad: as many have mentioned, the atmosphere is a little rigid. There are no comfortable seating options - you can choose a hard, plastic chair or a hard, wooden bench. However, the colors, while neutral, are well selected, so the place doesn't seems stark - just neutral. The traffic flow pattern through here is very logical, and you can see the menu board before you get to the counter to order. The free wireless is a HUGE plus. What really sold me on this place is the coffee. The roast is perfect. I am a snob, and drink americanos - you can really taste the roast. Theirs, which is done in house, is wonderful. Beyond wonderful, it's also more affordable than other coffee shops. Bring your own seat cushion, and you'll be good to go. read more

They roast there own beans and the vibe hear is more gourmet than cool.The look of the place is modern and creates a slightly less than cozy atmosphere. This is not a space that invites the customer to linger. The staff is hurried and it is not loud but there is something about the space that yells out more restaurant. It's more get in, consume, then get out; not the traditional coffee 'bar' which invites you to sit a spell like a tavern. Drip Coffee Co is a cozy space sandwiched in an older strip mall in Dallas. The brewed coffee is tasty, but I came for the nitrogen infused coffee. It was described as the Guinness of coffee--ironic because Guinness is usually referred to as beer that tastes like coffee. While creativity in concept is cool, the reason I like coffee is in-part because of the purity of the product. For that reason, I don't typically like flavored coffee (flavor is usually created by adding flavored or scented oil) or non-natural coffee drinks such as bottled lattes. Whether it was my bias or the taste and consistency of the coffee, it wasn't a cup of brew I enjoyed. I'll stick to the namesake of Drip Coffee Co. I guess I'm just old fashioned like that. Second time ever to this place. First time sucked. But that was a couple years ago. I figured that if this place survived this log that it surely must have improved... No dice. I'm here on a rainy Friday at 3:30 in the afternoon. The place is close to empty. (As it should be). I see that there are three sizes for most drinks. A sure sign that this is not the sort of place I usually seek out. You just can't make the traditional awesome drinks in that many varieties. It's just a joke. I ordered a cortado for here. Then was informed that there were no cups other than to go cups. Whaaaaat?!!!? And a cortado can't be done the right way in a to go cup as they explained. So I asked for a to go cappuccino.
