GEM OF A STORE I put off shopping for a dress for my son's wedding until 2 weeks before the date due to recent shoulder surgery. Having just gotten the brace/sling off I went to McKensie Rae with fingers crossed. It turned into a wonderful experience! It is very rare that I find a place where the focus is on the evening attire and ball gowns that does not include the bridal 'section' of the store. I live downtown San Diego, and I have walked by this store many times, and have been wanting to go in every time. Well, I was recently invited to a very private ball in Paris France that includes guests / sponsors such as Orlando Bloom, Robert Redford, Prince Albert of Monaco. I typically have to fly to Europe for the purchase of the classy ball gown. I have not found one place that provided me with the 'right dress for the occasion' in europe, canada or the USA. Typically the sales reps spend more time on the brides, because the commission is always bigger based on that one purchase. The unfortunate part of this business model is, that staff are motivated to sell to brides because of the value and the commissions that come along with that. For example, I felt this way about Prevue in San Diego. This boutique, not only focused on the evening and ball gowns, BUT they made you feel like the model of the show. The beautiful store includes leather sofas for the guests, automatic open and close dressing rooms, chandelier light fixtures with natural lights, dresses brought to you on racks like they used to do back in the day the we modeled prior to fashion shows, lights that allowed the true appearance of the beautiful dresses. The most important thing for me was, I did not feel PUSHED into a sale. I have my own business, and if I ever come across a business that is intrusive and pushing a sale, I leave. Regardless of the beauty of the dresses. I felt that the staff was committed to me the entire time. The dress that I eventually bought was the most superior of all dresses that I have seen from the middle east to Canada to USA. I promise to attach a picture of this gown after the ball. It is customary not to show the dress prior to the event. But I can tell you, the dress will blow you away. I want to thank the staff and the manager who took their time to spend the time with me to find my perfect dress. From my understanding the owner was a beauty queen herself. I hope that one day, she will show off her accomplishment through visual tangible artwork. When I found out that she is/was a beauty queen at one point in her life, I was even more determined to by the dress. A woman who has gone through the process of becoming a beauty queen is magnetic. A beauty queen who doesn't show that she was a beauty queen, and the hell she went through to get there MUST be shown subtly in the store. So my feedback as a long time model years ago, show the world where you came from. The name is one thing, but the visual image of you, will go a long way. While shopping online for prom dresses for my daughter, I searched on Yelp for some local dress shops. I came across McKenzie Rae which was peppered with fabulous reviews. Convinced that this might be the best way to find the dress, I booked an appointment. The shop is huge, beautifully decorated with lots of natural light. The stylist was very helpful and attentive. She assisted my daughter with each and every dress. Even giving her shoes and jewelry to try on to complete the look. We never felt pressured or rushed. The whole experience was very positive. We discovered this store through a friend and I am so grateful! My daughter and I had already spent several trips to the mall in search of a prom dress. We made the 30 minute drive downtown as a last option. The storefront is adorable and we found close street parking. We were immediately helped by our personal shopper, Irene, who checked to see if any dresses were already purchased for prom from the same high school. We managed to find the perfect dress for my daughter in less than 30 minutes. It is a quality dress at an affordable price. The experience was so pleasant and easy! Must say I LOVED shopping there today. I myself am in the service industry and know what good customer services is. I've been looking afor a clothing boutique and I think I have finally found a match!! The girl who helped me picked out outfits for me and was so helpful. I have never been to a place where they take there time to help. I loved everything I tried on and it was so hard to choose. Most small boutiques can be snobby but not this place, and the prices are very affordable. So happy I found them!!!! This store was very chic and had many beautiful dresses.They have a great selection of long dresses which is what I was looking for. I didn't make an appointment which wasn't a problem but if you do they will pull a variety of other dresses that are not on display that are specific for your event. Laynee was incredibly helpful and made my experience GREAT! She pulled several dresses for me that were exactly what I asked for. My favorite part of shopping here is, that they will not sell the dress you buy to anyone who might be attending the same event as you are. This is such a beautiful dress shop! My daughter walked in and fell in love with a yellow ballgown instantly! Laynee was such a sweetheart and walked up to us right as we walked in and told us to let her know if she wanted to try anything on. My daughter told her the dress she wanted to try on and Laynee set her up with a fitting room and waited attentively outside. She helped zip and helped figure out where alterations could be made and was overall helpful and always had a smile on her face! She even brought me the catalogue with the dress my daughter had just tried on and made a comment saying she thinks my daughter looks even better in it and just overall such a sweetheart willing to help and willing to bring other dresses to try on as well. My daughter originally came in looking for a specific dress and had just come in to try on a different dress for size and even after finding the first dress, Laynee was happy to bring the other dress to try on for size without us even having to ask about it twice!
