About six or seven weeks out from my wedding date, I started the rounds through Union Square men's wear departments. A smarter person would have started all this much earlier. On top of everything else going on, I immediately felt overwhelmed, rudderless and without a game plan. Feeling like I needed some help, I turned to Yelp and noticed "Situation Control" in the listings. The name spoke directly to me. I called Mike and he happened to have availability to see my fiance and I right away. As soon as I started talking to Mike, he helped navigate some of the options and ideas I had been considering. In about an hour I had an order placed with just a few accessories left to pick up. A few weeks later I was in for an initial fitting in which almost nothing needed to be adjusted. I've known Mike for a couple years now, and I'm extremely lucky to have a suit made by him. Out of pure convenience we did everything out of Emeryville (I live down the street), so that was a major plus. During the measuring/fitting process I dropped 20lbs. As you can imagine the sizing was much different every time I got fitted, but Mike killed it. Through the four fittings, I was confident that the suit would fit me forever. Damn suit will fit me well through 20lb swings! The choices of materials and styles are beyond anything I could've ever imagined. We chose a great navy color that stood out, but wasnt too attention grabbing. It was understated but very classy. I was very simple and conservative in choosing the lapel style as well the shirting, but Mike made me feel confident in those choices throughout. Turn around was pretty quick, but if you have at least half a brain you'd start your fitting at least a couple months out from the day you need it. Sorry it took awhile to get this review to you, I wanted to post it with a photo. Its a great example of cheap suits my groomsmen were wearing vs my suit from SitCon. True story: I bought off-the-rack at another store once and long story short, my pants ripped at the crotch during a wedding reception. After that, I had a revelation...you get what you pay for and that's why I decided to reach out to Mike for an appointment since he specializes in unique, bespoke suits. I came to him 2 months prior to my wedding and I've looked around and i happen to stumble upon him through a site that spoke about his work and what he did previously before doing custom suits but it doesn't stop there. He does custom button ups, vest, jackets, pants, pea coats the whole nine. Mike was very detail oriented, he asked me what I wanted and worked with me. I originally wanted a full suit but the cost was what threw me off at first then I asked if he could make me custom pants, vest, and button up and leave the jacket out. The material he showed me was very very nice italian fabric. If you know your fabrics then you know italian fabric isnt cheap. Hence why I chose to not get the jacket and if you think about it, when your at your wedding the only time you will have your jacket on is during the ceremony due to you getting too hot. Not only am I a customer now, I've also gained a friend. Getting back on track mike was very inkoformative and always kept up with the appointments when it came to try out the fit. Mike listened to my needs and wants when I came to try my wedding fit it came out perfect. I also requested for a chinese dragon embroidery to be put inside my vest. Iron Mike!!! I gotta give it up to situation control. As a person that was not educated in what I was looking for. Micheal brought me up to speed. Not only did I receive a grade A service, but I gained some knowledge. I arrived at situation about 2months earlier then my expected wedding day (highly recommend getting in early). I had visited a couple of store front stores before I came here and wasn't treated very well. I quickly turned my cheek and left. I was yelping the nearest bespoke tailor and came across situation. It's by appointment but I just wanted to check if he could see me. I called in and Mike welcomed me in right away. He broke down exactly what he does and assessed what I was looking for and we started from there. The process is super simple. Pick your fabrics your customization and the fun part is the fitting!! He can tailor you to whatever you desire, wether you want it fitted slim, relaxed. You could probably show him a picture and he would execute it. My experience with mike was awesome. We spread my visits out, I came in about 3-4 times, I even came in last minute which I thought was super cutting it close but he made it work like it was nothing don't worry about it. That's the type of service you should be looking for, someone that understands your time and is patient. Overall it's been a pleasure working with mike and I am humbled to have met him. It's rare when you find people in whom you can trust and do incredible work with you. Every project I've worked on with Mike has been an incredible experience and the quality of the products always outperform my expectations. Mike and I went from making some really fun, somewhat edgy (but classic) jackets to a black suit and my wedding suit. I knew absolutely nothing about custom suits before coming to Situation Control, but after a super relaxed conversation at Mike's private showroom/office (over some really smooth whiskey to boot), it became immediately apparent that this guy knows what he's doing.
