Or if you have a truck the bed serves as an impromptu table. You order at the window and then get some seafood goodness fairly quickly, 5-7 minutes tops. You are offered seafood consomme (broth) after you order, which is a tasty appetizer before your food comes out. I have had the shrimp cocktails, ceviches and both fish and marlin tacos. All those dishes hold their weight, but it really is all about the fish taco for me. Simple in true Baja style with fried white fish, cabbage and their white sauce. Very tasty and my favorite in North County. Their salsa's are awesome. Dangerous, but delicious, the habanero is another favorite of mine. Super spicy. Depending on what you order, the bill can add up for the pricier options, but two fish tacos and a drink will keep you under $10.

Our protein choices for our Tacos or Quesatacos were Birra, Carne Asada or Pollo. Rice and Pinto Beans were provided as sides. I chose one each birria and carne asada quesatacos with a side of beans. I topped the tacos with grilled onions, cilantro and a squeeze of lime. I also added a grilled serrano pepper. The carne asada was juicy and flavorful. The corn tortilla was piled high with the carne. The tortilla was great quality and delicious. The birria was not served with a side of consommé for dipping, and honestly, it didn't need it. The shredded meat was so juicy. The cheese pull from the queso was exquisite. Can a cheese pull be exquisite? Yes. Yes, it can. The beans were very good. I love spicy food. I love the heat. That said, the serrano melted my face! Whoo! If you see La Cocina Del Abuelo around town, stop and enjoy a taco. I highly recommend it. He was so personable and polite while prepping his truck that I promised to find him and give his food a try. I'm so glad I did! On Tuesdays, the truck is at Wild Barrel Brewing in San Marcos. I went for the street tacos because, hey, it's taco Tuesday, and I didn't need to bother the brewery to get to the truck. The owner was there and again was super nice. After I ordered a few of every type of taco, he recommended his surf 'n turf burrito, so I got one and eagerly escorted it home with my tacos. My expectations were pretty average since there's a lot of Mexican food out there and competing qualities. The burrito was absolutely, unequivocally wonderful! The flavors melded together seamlessly without any one overpowering another. The shrimp was cooked to perfection, still flavorful and juicy. This will become my go to burrito in the future! For tacos, I'd recommend the adobada and carne asada fillings as the most flavorful. Give this food truck a try and support a local business.
