I first went with Dream Stoves because I was surprising my wife with a partial restoration of my 1980's Wolf stove. They came and picked it up and left me a loaner which was great. I didn't need it back for a month so it was perfect. But they didn't have it finished in time. Then it was a couple more weeks of me begging. It's now no longer a surprise because my wife was home now, and, hey, what happened to the stove. Still, at least she would be pleased with the finished product. The stove was finally delivered and after closer inspection we could see all these drip marks from the finish, the metal pronged Wolf tag fell off when we heated the oven up, and worse, the griddle looked as if someone stepped on it with a boot which would have to get sanded off somehow. So now more weeks go by and they have to pick it up and take it back........when it was returned we noticed that the oven door did not close and open properly. Spent an hour and a half fiddlin' with it without having the rivet tools to fix it properly. A month goes by and the door literally breaks. It will not close tightly and will not open all the way. The temp fix did not hold. I have called, texted, emailed over a dozen times and Christian can only tell me to remove the plate to fix the spring. Not that easy and not the problem. Later responds he is in Oregon building a house for the summer. $3500 later and 6 months later I have no working stove and no word from the owner that he will even remedy his mistake. I have pleaded for him to be an honest businessman and make it right....silence. Unless Christian calls sets up someone to come fix it before September, I am highly recommending that nobody use this company. I hate writing a bad review but I have given many chances to make good on it without having another source that can come fix it. read more

Christian and his son, Devon do an amazing job with restoring vintage stoves. Devon delivered my 1948 Wedgewood 2 days ago and it is immaculate! Even though I had seen pictures, it is better than what I imagined. Christian was responsive, informative and certainly knows what he is doing. They gave me detailed instructions on installation, converted the stove to propane, changed the knobs to a better color....did everything to make me happy with the stove. I love it! Nightmare experience! Unethical! We paid $5k for a stove from this guy and another $700+ for delivery and installation. This stove stopped working a few days later. We had to wait a month for his guy to come fix it, and he sent him with a part that didn't fit! After that he just didn't want to deal with us anymore. Says he was just too busy. He told me to call other closer stove companies to fix it at my expense! He did send the part he claims is the correct one, but I don't know if it is and it's missing the dial. Which his guy broke when he tried to fix it. Calling to find someone to fix it has been another nightmare since not many are willing to come to our remote area. It's been four months now we've had this non-working stove. Who knows when we'll have a working one. We'll be filing a law suit. read more

I thank the Universe every day for being fortunate enough to find an appliance refurbisher like Christian. Quite simply, he is in a category all of his own. We first saw the old Wedgewood stove online and knew we had to have it for our period kitchen. The seller informed us it had been stored away for at least 40 years in the rear of an old garage. Stating it was "somewhat rusted and missing a few parts" we began a search for a knowledgeable "repairman" before considering the purchase in earnest. Well hundreds of keyboard clicks later we came upon Dream Stoves here in California. In our first phone conversation Christian answered every anxious question I posed to him. After examining the photos forwarded to him he schooled us on the manufacturer's history, the cooking features, the year built, and how it was a limited-edition model. He really is a walking Wikipedia of antique stoves. Armed with this new information we decided to see the stove in person. Oh, did I mention it was located over 400 miles away? How were we going to safely transport this behemoth of an appliance in Southern California to his workshop in the Sierra Foothills? I phoned Christian again for help and he says..."No problem. I can recommend a transporter who I call upon periodically and he can deliver it here without worry". Wow! The good news just keeps coming. We traveled to see the stove and although the interior mechanical workings were visibly in poor to fair condition, we bought it knowing we'd never see another one quite like it again. A few days later it arrived at Dream Stoves without incident. Shortly thereafter we met Christian for our first in-person consultation. Still worried we m-a-y have purchased a nearly 500 lb. paperweight, he thoughtfully and thoroughly explained the good, bad, and ugly but confidently reassured us all could be repaired to modern safety standards. OMG. What a relief. Make no mistake, the exterior porcelain was in good condition but the chrome, interior oven enamel, and all the burners would require extensive refurbishing. Because of our stove's unique repair needs Christian commissioned a specialty iron foundry in the Midwest to accurately replicate a few essential, but unsalvageable, parts. His attention to planning details is amazing. We knew it would be a long process for him but he was certainly up to the challenge. After many months of meticulous hard work, our stove was ready to come home. It was waiting for us cloaked beneath a cover and with one swift tug he revealed a magnificently restored 1923 Wedgewood stove with gleaming chrome trim. All traces of rust and decay were history. I was so surprised by the result that my sheer joy overwhelmed my emotions. We both had full faith in Christian's capabilities and he exceeded our expectations. He transformed a 90+ year old train-wreck of a stove into a fully functioning appliance which is the centerpiece (and conversation piece) of our kitchen. For those considering Dream Stoves for their stove rehab project please know this... Christian Maupin is an honest businessman whose years of experience fuels his pursuit of antique appliance preservation perfection. And now if you'll excuse me. My pot roast is done. ;-) read more

I sent my beloved and working perfectly, but needing an overhaul O'Keefe&Merritt to Dreamstoves three years ago for over $6k including shipping. The stovetop pieces were replaced and have a 1/4" gap between them.. perfect for food falling into impossible to clean places. The chrome is cracked, peeling, and turning brown by the burners. The ovens were never calibrated. The light switch on one oven has failed. Yesterday I paid $400 to replace the thermocouple which was improperly installed and melted. The high cost did not merit this kind of poor workmanship. Buyer beware! read more

I brought my grandmothers vintage Wedgewood stove to Dream Stove Restoration to be restored. Christian was very polite and assigned my stove to his son because he was busy. Under his supposed guidence it was supposed to be restored to his specifications. Well as it turns out I got taken. The stove is a heater stove and according to the shop it was used to heat the shop and they cooked on it. It stayed on the same place so long that there was shop debris under it. I picked up the stove installed it in my rebuilt vintage kitchen only to smell gas and the oven unusable because of a huge flame in the rear of the oven. My wife uses a toster oven what a decrease. They don't return my calls, do not use dream stoves their nightmare stoves. They don't provide follow up service. I had to rate this 1 star so this could be published. Do not let Dream Stoves take a small fortune and your grandmothers stove and make it unsafe. read more

This review is long overdue. Several years ago, I was in search of someone to restore my vintage 1952 Wedgewood stove, which had been in my family for decades. It was working, but in poor shape. I feel so fortunate to have found Christian, the proprietor of Dream Stoves, who is extremely knowledgeable about these very cool appliances. He provided me with options for restoring it, all within reasonable price ranges. He even drove all the way from the Sierra foothills where he is located to pick up and drop off my stove at my home in San Francisco. What service! When my restored stove was delivered, it was absolutely beautiful, like it was brand new and had just rolled off the factory floor! My vintage sixty-six year old Western-Holly gas stove is now working great. They tuned it up, fixed oven door and calibrated the oven, fixed burners and pilot lights. We found Dreamstoves online, but Christian's shop is fairly near our home, so we went to see him. His work is IMPECCABLE. The stoves are absolutely beautiful when finished - like they are brand new. We saw gorgeous, fully restored examples of stoves from every era and they're equally impressive. If an antique stove is what you want, Christian is your guy. Easy to work with, a master at his craft, and did I mention he can probably get you ANY stove you want? The only thing that bummed me out is that we could only choose one. We were seeking a vintage stove to be the focal point in the kitchen of a complete interior renovation of a 1938 schoolhouse converted to residential use.
