This is the best organized comic book store I have ever been to. It's clean, the comics are in excellent condition, the staff knows their stuff backward and forward. They have huge vertical moving panels of comics that let you find the best stuff in moments. They have story arcs in bundles so you can just grab a whole storyline at once. No hunting the internet for which issues the stories are in or going from place to place to find that one missing issue. And the prices are very reasonable for what they offer. I will pay a little extra per issue to have the whole story collected for me, boarded and wrapped individually and then bundled. I never knew a comic store could be so wonderfully organized until I saw this place and now I want them all to look like this. What a pleasure to shop here! Well worth the visit. read more

I can't recommend this store enough. I have been going their since their old location and am thrilled that they continue to go. First, they have a ton of stuff. All of it is clean, well priced, well organized, and easy to go through. I have shown up a number of times with lists of needs and always find something on it. If I don't, all I do is walk to the front desk and they help me find it. Second, they care about the customers. I've overheard all of the conversations while I look at the Magic cards or flip through the back issues. The owners are engaging and very cool. They care about their customers and it shows. I can walk in an immediately hear "Here for another McFarlane Spider-Man?". I literally have not had this level of engagement from any other store in Phoenix. Last, it is all easy to find. They've got a really cool display system, tons of cases, stuff on the walls, and clearly organized back issues. I've been to other stores in Phoenix that are just piles of long boxes with no organization. I can go here, find what I want, and maybe find something else cool along the way. I love this place and you probably will too. I recommend that you give them a shot. read more

I'm from Orlando, Florida and had the distinct pleasure of shopping at Dreadnought Comics and would recommend anyone to go here! While visiting Phoenix on a work trip (and I always like to find a local comic shop to pop into in any of my work or personal travels.) I was lucky to find this store in close proximity of my work location, and I have to say I would recommend it to any comic fan. The staff: Super nice and helpful. There is absolutely no condescending need tone as both guys I met here were Very welcoming and gracious hosts. I loved their challenge to help me find any of my grails or books I've been hunting. One of my favorite characteristics of this shop was the presentation of an ultimate wall book experience. We might be used to a comic shop's more blue chip books located on the wall behind the register. Not in this case. There was a "museum archival" feel with wall Books filed very cleanly and safely on Movable "walls" that were segmented by character, or artist to make for easy finding. If you are looking for hard to find key issues and/or Key covers, go there! Prices are very fair compared to what's going on on eBay, some you'll find about 10-20% under what's selling in fact. Nothing is grossly over priced at all. I found a bunch of hard to find covers and issues I had been searching for back home. Unfortunately I had to control my urges and resist blowing all my money in one shot! Here are some searches you could do: - Michael Turner (amazing Selection of his indie and DC Work, and some Marvel too) (was able to pick up a great looking NM copy of Supergirl 50 with a great Turner cover I never find at home in that great of condition) - a J Scott Campbell wall - some great Silver age fantastic four (first Warlock on their upper wall), good looking copy I was heavily tempted on. - great Batman keys, a joker key section, yes you will find the Jock Detective comics 881(?) iconic cover during the Scott Snyder run. - and don't forget they have back issues and a great bleacher styled shelves for more recent back issues. All are bagged and boarded and presents well. Everything is clean, in fresh bags and boards. You won't be holding a 30 year old comic in a dusty smoky bag and board I assure you. If I lived in Phoenix, this is where I would get my pull list. They also give you a nice rigid cardboard box with a local artist print emblazoned on it (ill include a picture of the Metal image with the Batman who laughs). This is a super nice touch when you purchase that $50 book and want to protect it during transit. Thank you for the box to help protect my comic while traveling back to Orlando. If you live in Phoenix and don't ever go, you need to rethink your actions and put it on your to do list. 5 stars all the way. read more

Where other places put there best stuff out of reach or behind glass. Dreadnought comics puts their eye candy out in the open. How the comics are displayed are unlike anything I have ever seen. Custom made by the owners themselves. Are these ingenious wooden walls on wheels that hold comics on both sides. No more flipping through comic book boxes here. You are actually moving walls. Comics are organized by titles, artists and also by writers with the price stickers on the comic bag. These guys are hardcore comic book guys and the store is for hardcore collectors. Someone new to the hobby could be intimidated coming in here but don't be. The guys who run the place are nice and helpful. They will steer you in the right place. I myself was looking for some Uncanny Xforce first run Remender issues. He actually had some behind the counter for me to buy. Gave me a great deal and I left happy. Support your local comic book stores especially the good ones. In the state of Arizona, in Glendale is Dreadnought Comics. They are doing it their way and they are doing it right. read more

Stumbling upon Dreadnought Comics in the non-descript half abandoned strip mall it resides in must be what finding Batman's lair in a dank old cave must feel like. What a bitchin' comic shop. Just came here looking for a few odds and ends and couldn't believe how cool of a store it is. Unfortunately I live 5 hours away in San Diego so I won't be making it my main but man, these guys do everything right. Owner is super friendly as well and grouping certain books by story arcs is so simple yet so brilliant that I can't believe I've never seen it done before. I stopped into this place and was blown away by how cool it is. There is so much eye-catching, fun stuff everywhere you look. I mostly collect X-Men and Batman comics (and they have tons of that stuff), but they also have toys, Airsoft rifles, graphic novels and a bunch of other cool stuff. The staff was eager to assist with anything I might be looking for (also worth noting that everyone in the store was complying with Covid-19 mask standards). I recently visited Phoenix on business. Let me tell you: while in Phoenix, this is the shop to see. Don't even bother with the rest. Dreadnought comics is one of the best dealers I've experienced and one of the most enjoyable shops you'll find anywhere. Being from Tucson, I've always wanted to visit and check out the great variety of comic vendors in our much larger, next door neighbor. Well, I went to 6 different shops over a period of two days, and I'm sad to say I was incredibly disappointed by all! Ranging from utter, catastrophic disorganization--with issues randomly splayed across counters-- to having everything for the current month while maintaining little or no back issue stock, Phoenix's shops left me wondering what the local scene had to offer over a standard magazine rack. I was impressed at each of these 6 shops by the charming layouts, collectible toys, cards, gaming atmosphere, and drink options. But isn't the entire point of running a comic shop to be good at selling comics? That means being organized, knowledgeable, having back issues on hand, and offering a variety of TPB/graphic novels. Many shops in Phoenix have mastered one or more of these aspects, but not all. Are you in business to sell drinks or play cards? Then, open a Boba Tea shop. Or form a club and rent out the Holiday Inn. But... If you should choose to label your shop as being a comic book dealer, then you had better back it up. I'm pleased to say that the 7th shop I visited, Dreadnought Comics, backs their claim quite well. They are well organized, have high grade back issues galore, and offer runs/ sets available in bulk, at 9.2-9.8 condition. They have the most impressive wall display I've ever seen. Using door sized, glassed walls to display comic rarities allows their customers to flip through dozens of collector's items at our leisure. The rows of back issue boxes are alphabetically organized by title. All long boxes are neat, well marked, and fit snugly into filing cabinet drawers. A simple pricing system using sticker color makes "grab and go" a very real option. To top it off, the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. This one comic book shop single-handedly redeemed my view of the comic scene in Phoenix. Well done, Dreadnought Comics! Hope to visit you again soon. read more

This is a great store. lots of back issues from the silver age. I grew up with comics from the 70's and this is the place to find those good old comics from my early childhood. Absolutely incredible store that is legitimately different than other comic shops I've ever seen. No thumbing through row after row of comics overstuffed in boxes or tables. Instead the comics are on floor to ceiling moving panels making every one easily visible and the prices are clearly marked along with descriptions for key issues too. I e-mailed the store regarding their stock as the location is further than I'd typically want to drive. I was overjoyed to get back a friendly response and a friendly handshake and greeting when I came by. Great selection, great customer service and a great store. I'd happily come here again if I lived here. read more

The Good Stuff: This is a great store if you're looking for key books at a bargain. The prices are adjusted via e-bay and the owners seem willing to haggle a bit if needed. The key observation I noticed is that the display system is really cool and unique; all the books are in a case similar to a high quality poster rack with shelves that span from floor to ceiling. The store has a vast collection of comic cards and other various small items alongside the comic display racks. Compared to other AZ comic shops, this store is really geared towards hardcore fans looking for back issues and key books more than new issues. The concerns: The store currently has no consignment or new issues. A lack of new stuff could drive some customers away. The store also has no comic supplies yet. I'll give them a pass for now as this shop just opened last week. I'll definitely be coming back to this place in the future to see how it improves. read more

one of the most unique comics shops in the valley. it's definitely the best shop in the west side of the valley i terms of back issues and new issues. the thing that sets them apart is their staff. i've met two guys that work their. (i think that's all they have, if not then i have met them) but i believe theh are business partners. and you can tell they have such a passion for what they do. their shop is so cool. they have these door like shelves that swing open. these shelves contain rare/unique issues. for instance: i'm a huge nightwing fan and in the nightwing section they have - Tales of the Teen Titans #44 (first nightwing) , nightwing 1/2 (with certificate of authenticity) nightwing #1 etc. the list goes on there are more rare/more expensive items hanging on the wall - alot of first appearances for a variety of super heroes or characters there's a huge selection of regular back issues from all types of characters a whole area just for story arcs! i bought my first story arc from this place! they have a huge selection of action figures and toy or collectibles. i just moved to chandler az so i will no longer be able to call this place home. but everyone i go to the glendale / phoneix area i will have to step in here to see what i need and visit the guys! read more

Pros: Clean layout - The comics on display are easily accessed in an unique setup. It almost reminds me of a private art gallery. Both men enjoyed talking comics and the industry and were willing to help find what I was looking for. Finally, back issues, back issues, back issues. It's great to see a shop based on back issues. When thinking about the state of the industry, why not sell back issues? In a lot of cases the back issues were priced reasonably especially when comparing them to the average price of a modern comic - $4. Con: Only one I could think of was a price discrepancy of a comic. Seems to be some issue with the price tag and what the owners want to charge. Minor issue that was cleared up quickly. With Heros Comics closing their doors, north Phoenix is left with only one shop. Dreadnaught is for the serious collector but is eye appealing thanks to their display racks to the novice. Keep in mind the shop does not carry very many new issues. This isn't a comic book store. It's a comic book scalper that runs a brick and mortar. Any comic book store that is going to jack the prices of a comic on the day of release by 100% doesn't care about its customers. All they care about is money. Not the first time I've had a bad experience with this store. It is the first time I've been mad enough to say something and never shop there again. If you are looking for that feel-good home town comic store this isn't the place for you. read more

This is the perfect neighborhood comic book store. Jeff and James are regular dudes who are willing to help you find what you are looking for. They will also take the time to talk geek and make you feel right at home. This place is definitely non douchey or intimidating. They often charge less than what things are worth and sometimes willing to negotiate price. Great selection of back issues, trades, and action figures. They will also order order any new issues that you may be interested in. This is not the type of comic store with walls lined full of new books and comic swag. Not that there's anything wrong with that, just not my style. Dreadnought Comics is full of hidden gems and personality. If you are passionate about your geek interests, then this is the place to patronize. read more
