The restaurant was covered in TVs with various programs on, including sports and a great variety of music playing. We were seated immediately, pretty late on a Friday night. Our server was attentive and our drinks were always full. We started with a small order fried pickles with ambrosia ranch and regular ranch. The pickles were delicious and hot. Ambrosia ranch has a strong dill kick. For entrees, we tried the patty melt with tater tots and the build your own chicken tacos. However, it's noisy so it's hard to carry on a conversation, but then we were seated near the bar. The presentation was very nice, and they included everything I needed. It was just a poke bowl because I didn't want to poke the sushi overlords, and really wish I would have thrown in a roll. It was an oddly eclectic menu with a lack of direction and a subsequent lack of focus. This lack thereof meant that food was subpar. The sushi was dry, incoherent, and lacked presentation. We are passing through Indiana headed to Louisville, KY and took a detour into Evansville for dinner. We stopped at Drake's. It was Friday evening and the weather was fantastic. The parking lot was packed but we got in and got a table on the partially enclosed patio. Our server was prompt and very nice. I ordered the mushroom Swiss burger and my wife ordered the buffalo chicken sliders. The restaurant was kind of an industrial/garage design and was nice. Our food came out in a timely manner. That's where things went south. The burger a covered in cold fries. Not like warm, cold fries. At first I was impressed with the size of the burger until I realized it was deceiving. The "patty " was not whole and was just bits and pieces of a patty that was falling off the bun in every direction. It, too, was cold. The burger was dry and cold. There were about 3 slices of mushrooms on the mushroom and Swiss burger. My wife compared the buffalo chicken sliders to Arby's . Her fries were cold as well. How can food be this cold when they are that busy? We had no napkins or utensils and our server never refilled our drinks. I know she was busy, but no one checks on us u til long after we were done. It was my first time at Drakes and I was really surprised at home much I enjoyed it. We stopped by for a later meal - around 9 pm - and the restaurant was still packed! Service was a little slow but it was a busy night and we weren't in any hurry. When we finally placed our orders the food came out quickly. I ordered the crab Rangoon roll and the tuna poke bowl, both were fantastic. The crab Rangoon roll was deep fried with crab and cream cheese inside. It was also covered in a sticky sweet sauce which was delicious. Very filling! I also ordered the tuna poke bowl. It's a little on the smaller size but filled with pickled, avocado, carrot and more. And while for the most part I absolutely love them, the last few times we have visited they have either been out of soda or food was not cooked thoroughly. Highly recommend the BLT tots, Cheeseburger sliders in any of their sushi. They do not have call ahead seating or an app where you can be placed on the waitlist. We never requested special seating, but they took care of us as soon as we walked in the door. The drinks and food are reasonably priced and really tasty!! While traveling through, I stopped for a quick bit. I didn't know where to go but ended up at Drakes because it appeared to be a nice and clean restaurant. The atmosphere was very good, the service was outstanding, but the Smash burger was terrible. I had chili and a burger. The Chile was very good, not great, but very good. The burger had good taste but was filled with gristle and I had to spit out something about very three bites. After we walked, the couple behind us was greeted by a server and told they could sit anywhere. We waited 8 minutes, watched 7 employees come by, 4 behind us doing nothing. I've been here a couple times but just never thought about doing a review but at this visit I had some really outstanding service so felt like a review was in order. This is a fairly new establishment in Evansville but obviously very well loved based on how full the parking lot and restaurant was when I got there. They have table seatings, booth seating as well as seating at the bar. They have a nice fireplace and multiple televisions placed thruout with different sporting events playing on each. The ambiance is casual and depending on how full it is it can be pretty loud. It was packed when I was there so it was definitely loud! The menu is packed full of lots of options. Smash burgers of all kinds, sandwiches, tacos, steaks, sushi... They have several different beers on tap as well as a full bar menu. I had the Turkey Swiss and avocado grill sandwich with sweet potato waffle fries and it was delicious. The sandwich was loaded with smoked Turkey and the guac on it is made in house along with the remoulade sauce, fantastic combo. Their servings are huge so I had plenty to take home for lunch the next day and it was equally as delicious after I popped it in my air fryer. My group also got the fried dill pickles and they are outstanding. Very nice sized pickles with just the right amount of breading and the dip they serve with them is amazing. It tastes like it has a tad bit of horseradish in it. Definitely a great place to check out if you are really hungry! Now on to the service which is the main reason for the review. Our servers name was Cody I believe. He was outstanding. It was obvious they had a pretty busy time right before we arrived but he was very quick with taking our orders and he brought fresh drinks out before we needed them. We decided to try Drake's last night and the parking lot was mostly full on a Wednesday, but we were seated right away. Both of us got burger meals. I had the Patty Melt because Grant, our waiter, suggested it. It was great! My husband got the slider sized burgers and he was impressed.
