After relocating to Gainesville a few years ago I decided it was time to establish care with a…read morefamily physician. I scheduled an appointment with this practice because it was close to my home and I figured since they were affiliated with UF it would be good. To start off, it took about three weeks for an open appointment. They told me to arrive about 15 minutes early to fill out paperwork on the day of my appointment. My appointment time was the first one of the morning, but following instructions, I arrived early. I went to open the door and it was locked. No one was there. I waited for 15 minutes and someone finally came to open the door. What was the point of telling me to come early if they keep the door locked until the minute they officially open?! So I fill out my paperwork and wait and wait..and wait a little more. Shocking since I was the first appointment of the day. I'm finally in an exam room, the nurse takes my vitals and then I wait for the doctor. I had a couple things I wanted to discuss since I had not visited a family physician for a while. The doctor comes in and we start talking about my questions/concerns. She stops me and says "One thing at a time, we can't cover everything today". I absolutely did NOT have a lengthy list or anything major to discuss! Talking a few minutes longer she is almost positive that I'm pregnant and wants me to do a urine test. I knew there was absolutely no way I was pregnant, but I said whatever and peed in a cup. Guess what, I wasn't pregnant. After 15 minutes of accomplishing nothing, she orders a bunch of labs, which I was sent to Quest to have done a few days later. Here is where things get crazy. I received a voicemail from the nurse rattling off the results of my labs in technical terms. At the end of the voicemail she says I am being referred to UF Hematology/Oncology and they will be calling me to schedule an appointment! I am not a medical professional, so I had no idea what the results she rattled off meant and I was terrified to hear that I was being referred to an oncologist (doctor specializing in cancer). That is not something you leave on a voicemail message. I quickly call the office and ask to speak to the doctor. They would not let me speak to the doctor, but had the nurse call me back. She went a little more in depth about the results, but I still didn't really understand what the heck was going on. Hematology/Oncology called and the first appointment was a month out, which I was freaking out about. I needed answers. I called UF physicians to schedule a follow up visit so I could ask her to re test everything in the meantime just to make sure there wasn't a mistake. Her response was no and that hematology would run their own tests at my upcoming visit. I thought this was absurd, just order another round of labs to confirm the results. For one month I was extremely stressed out and terrified that I had something seriously wrong. When I finally went to my appointment with the specialist, it turned out to be a lab error. All of my stress and anxiety could have been prevented if the doctor would have re tested like I had requested. Avoid this practice like the plague.

She and the other staff were very warm and accommodating. They put me under general and I was out in no time, which was good for me since I usually get nervous with these things. Two major complaints about this dental office though: 1) My appointment time was 8:45am. I was in the waiting room for OVER THREE HOURS. 2) Robin was seriously unprofessional and was incredibly standoffish. First, she never sent my scripts over to my pharmacy which was an issue since I was supposed to start the oral rinse and antibiotic three days prior to surgery. (Wondering if maybe my oral bacteria count would be lower now if this wasn't the case or my recovery would be easier???) Then, when I went in for my follow up, I was being prodded at with equipment and apparently spit a little water up during the water pic part and Robin literally said "disgusting". She then proceeded to tell me how difficult I was under the anesthesia and how I kept moving around. First of all, it's not like I was consciously trying to inconvenience anyone... I was asleep. Second, I didn't ask so these impertinent comments made absolutely no difference towards my recovery instructions which was the reason for my appointment. This really hurt my feelings since I had expressed how nervous I was about anesthesia and was proud of myself for being fairly normal after. Bf said I just kept thanking everyone after. These comments have made me very reluctant to come back for the sake of being judged in a medical setting. Horrible bed side manners.

The only issue I had this time around was that, as with all doctor offices, patients are requested to arrive fifteen minutes prior to their appointment. Well, my appointment was at 1pm, but they were having an office meeting from 12pm to 1pm that day, and the front door was locked up tight, so I had to sit outside waiting in the 90 degree Florida sun (I ride a motorcycle... no relief from the sun by using air conditioning!) until the opened promptly at 1pm.

Dr office billed a subtotal of $50 for 3 line items. My credit card was charged $120.00. Dr ended 3/28 appointment early and requested a follow up refraction appointment one month later. Dr. Office refunded $120 back to credit card. And then charged my credit card $60 even though invoice subtotal was $50. Patient paid $60 in full at time of service. 04/28/2025 - Second billing scam/issue. Had appointment on 4/28/25 with Dr. Starlings for the 3/28 appointment she ended and then requested a follow up exam and refraction. On 04/28/2025 Dr. Starling completed refraction, new contact rx issued, new and trail contacts ordered. Dr was fully paid at time of service. On 4//29 one day after my appointment, Dr. Starling dropped me as a patient! WTF, what horrible service and experience. Next Dr. Starling, canceled the new contact rx she wrote the previous day, cancels my trial contacts she ordered, and has her front desk tell me that they are refunding for the services they rendered. I questioned and complained that the 4/28/25 $45 copay was a second copay being charged for the first visit on 3/28 which Dr. already collected the copay when processed under VSP. Early on 04/29, I spoke with Lauren from Dr. office about 04/28 charges. At that time I asked Lauren if my VSP insurance was listed and billed. Lauren confirmed yes it was for 3/28 DOS charges. I asked Lauren if my Florida Blue Insurance was listed on my account profile. Lauren lied to me telling me no. I advised Lauren my VSP is the only insurance Im using and should be the only instance listed. I asked her to please remove my health insurance information from their system if listed. Next, Lauren said my health insurance wasn't billed for 04/29/25 DOS charges. According to my health insurance, Dr Starlings office billed my health insurance $80 of my copay 04/28 and then billed me $45 as patient responsibility. Why am I and my health Insurance being charged a second co-pay on a secondary follow appointment and services originally postponed by Dr Starling on 03/28/2025 until 04/28/2025?
