What followed was some of the best healthcare we have ever received anywhere. She was seen by Barbara Jean Williams who immediately showed concern and identified her illness through testing and examination to be Type A Flu, dehydration, a sinus infection, fluid behind her ears, fever and sharp internal pains and severe anorexia from her illness. Dehydration was an immediate concern and we were so thankful they treated Karen in the office and did not pawn us off to a Gainesville Hospital Emergency Room which would have completely wiped Karen out. The office was quite busy at the time. At one point 3 nurses were assisting in her treatment, all were very professional, compassionate and considerate. We spent a total of 4 hours in the office being diagnosed and treated. I was not allowed to take her home until I emphatically understood the dangerous nature of her sickness and treatments being prescribed. The diagnosis and treatments were spot on, we followed all our instructions and got past the critical stage and continue to slowly improve. Thank you for the excellent diagnosis and treatment to the staff, we will certainly be back.

She is equivalent to the high caliber doctors I had in Minneapolis and Dallas years ago. Office efficiency: Checking in or out can be frustrating at times. The wait tends to be long as you stand in line by the entrance but I think it's just the system that needs re-evaluated. The process could be modernized with check in kiosks maybe. I had been seeing a cardiologist in Ocala for four years. She maintained that my blood pressure was in a normal range. While in the stroke unit, the physicians expressed concern over my blood pressure. After being discharged, I consulted the cardiologist and when I expressed the concerns of the physicians, was curtly discharged from her group practice. I decided to drive to Shands and consulted Dr. Hagen. She also noted the elevated blood pressure. After two visits, my pressure is now in a normal range with less medications. She has cared for myself and wife since my initial visits, and find her a physician who takes the time to listen and explain her impressions and planned treatment plan. Although there are many Internists at Shands, I highly respect her demeanor and professionalism.

One was a dime-sized bump above my upper lip that was itchy, red, sensitive, and ugly. It was so painful that I couldn't even go over it with a washcloth and it stuck out so far that you could see it from the side. My other bad scar area was actually inside my bottom lip. This scar was tight and I didn't have any feeling at all in half of my bottom lip. I went to Gainesville Holistic Healthcare to check out microcurrent point stimulation (MPS). The staff there worked with me to find a routine that worked for me. I ended up going twice a week for 15 minutes each to manage all of my scars. By the end of the first month, the scar above my upper lip was flat, less red, and not painful at all anymore. The scar inside my bottom lip was pretty abnormal, but Traci worked with me to find the best protocol. By November, I finally started to get feeling back in my bottom lip, and the scars didn't feel nearly as tight. I seriously can't express how great this place is. The staff are all nice, welcoming, and extremely accommodating. Face injuries are so personal, and they were just as happy as I was every time I hit a new milestone in my healing. I wouldn't want to go anywhere else for my MPS treatments. By the way - their waiting room is awesome. It's full of paintings, jewelry, and candles by local artists, and most are for sale. Mind you it was 2:32 when I made the call..my appointment was 2:30. I let her know at that point I was literally on their road. I arrived at 2:35 and was informed but the office I could not be seen. In their words "that was Dr. Nardi's decision." Mind you, there was 1 patient leaving and when I arrived no one waiting. He is one of the very few doctors in Gainesville who is not part of a group practice. His office is open M-Th, and on Friday he volunteers at the hospice. I got 3 months of refills of my life sustaining meds from my Miami doctor. I made an appointment with my future Gainesville primary care provider as soon as ANY UF Health doctor was available - today with Dr. Alessi. My AvMed insurance had a glitch rolling over to 2024. The office staff told me the doctor may be able to see me if I drove to the office and talked to their finance department. I did. Only to be told that under no circumstances Dr. Alessi could see me without proof of insurance even though I was willing to pay for my visit out of pocket. My only reasonable solution now is to go back to Miami to my old primary doctor and pay for gas, tolls, and hotel to get and stay there. It's a 12 hour round trip drive. Thank you UF Health!
