She is equivalent to the high caliber doctors I had in Minneapolis and Dallas years ago. Office efficiency: Checking in or out can be frustrating at times. The wait tends to be long as you stand in line by the entrance but I think it's just the system that needs re-evaluated. The process could be modernized with check in kiosks maybe. Something needs changed. Too slow. Front desk staff seem frustrated too. Thx for asking.

I found Dr. Akey because I was referred to her at the end of an ER visit. I knew nothing about her,…read morebut needed a follow-up doctor. Her office is pleasant and inviting, somewhat spa-like. The staff are always friendly and more than helpful. On my first visit, she ordered blood work and said she thought my neck looked a little "thick", so she ordered a thyroid ultrasound. (I am on thyroid medicine already for hypothyroidism). She was so personable, and so easy to talk to, and it was the first time in a long time that I enjoyed seeing a doctor. I was pleased to find out that Dr. Akey does bioidentical hormone therapy, since I am already receiving them from a different doctor, and she is right on board and again, easy to talk to regarding this topic. After my blood work results, she recommended some needed supplements, and as it turns out, there was a small nodule on my thyroid that we are keeping an eye on. Dr. Akey is very thorough and I will continue seeing her for my annual check-ups.

I had been seeing a cardiologist in Ocala for four years. She maintained that my blood pressure was in a normal range. While in the stroke unit, the physicians expressed concern over my blood pressure. After being discharged, I consulted the cardiologist and when I expressed the concerns of the physicians, was curtly discharged from her group practice. I decided to drive to Shands and consulted Dr. Hagen. She also noted the elevated blood pressure. After two visits, my pressure is now in a normal range with less medications. She has cared for myself and wife since my initial visits, and find her a physician who takes the time to listen and explain her impressions and planned treatment plan. Although there are many Internists at Shands, I highly respect her demeanor and professionalism.

"Kinda" was the answer. I had been there an hour. I would suspect that there are no on site real internists in the neighborhood. After 15 minutes or so a middle aged male appeared and I asked if he was an internist. I never got a direct answer. I suspect this whole operation is a scam using residents and/or medical students and billing your insurance for real medical doctors.
