Let me begin by saying I HATE dentist visits. In fact, I may have a bit of PTSD from my previous experiences. Had all my appointments been here, I don't think I would view dentist appointments any differently than haircuts or massages - yea, they are that good. The hygienist (Carrie) has a gentle touch and cleaned my neglected teeth without any pain or discomfort. Dr Akeel gave me a thorough exam and said, 'see you in six months.' You know what? He will. He was able to explain exactly what was going on by walking me through pictures and Xrays (note: no other dentist ever explained why my filling kept bothering me). He fixed the filling on the spot! He was fast, professional, and very friendly. All the hygienists and office personnel were very helpful as I needed to make an emergency appointment and send over my old records. Everything went smoothly, from check in to new patient paperwork to cleaning and X-rays. The hygienist was a superstar, dealing with a couple of areas that were hard to clean in my small mouth. The treatment I received was very cold, especially from the doctor. The second time I went was for a tooth extraction. That same dentist was unable to complete the procedure and sent me home with half of the tooth broken, which cut into my tongue and caused constant pain. I had to wait an entire week like that until a surgeon at another clinic could finally treat me. To make matters worse, when I complained about their poor service, they told me I wouldn't have to pay. Now, I've received a text saying that I owe them money. In the end, they're charging me after explicitly saying they wouldn't. I could have sued them for this, but honestly, I don't have the time to waste.

Went…read morein today for Geoff's appointment to find that it had been canceled because he had not responded to the e-mail reminders to respond. Geoff probably did not recognize the Sapon and Swisher Dental and did not respond. We have been going to Dr. Brandt for several years and will continue to do so! However, to cancel an appointment for someone who is disabled due to a massive stroke and has limited I Phone skills is totally inappropriate. Someone could have called me, his mom and caregiver, to verify the appointment. It is not like we are new patients! THey know us there-or so I thought! Getting Geoff dressed and moving is no easy task since he is paralyzed on his left side. We were there before noon and I was told the appointment had been canceled that morning. I would also like to point out that not everyone is glued to their phone and could miss an appointment reminder and therefore have an appointment canceled. Sometimes I do not look at my cell phone for several days-being a caregiver is a full time job! We will continue to see Dr. Brandt-she is tops! But, I hope that in the future I will not go to an appointment to find that is was canceled a few hours before because I did not respond to a reminder that I not even have known I had!

Wouldn't you know it, I paid $235 to have them cleaned and X-rayed, then she sent me on my way without pulling the broken tooth. She apparently scheduled me for a follow-up cleaning, which I did not keep (I only wanted a $99 tooth extraction, not a freaking commitment) so she put me into collections over a bill for a missed appointment. I feel like such a chump. This was 5+ years ago I think. I hope she becomes a politician, she would fit right in.

We had left our long-time dentist due to a falling out over poor care and billing issues, and I didn't feel comfortable simply picking out an appropriate dentist out of the phone book. Upon our orthodontist's recommendation, we went to see Dr. Alcorn. My 13-year-old son was understandably anxious, but Dr. Alcorn's staff could not have been more considerate and understanding. They made him feel as comfortable as possible under the circumstances. They gave me the option to sit in on the procedure, but I didn't because my son absolutely forbid it. So I sat in the waiting area, wondering if he was doing okay. Dr. Alcorn came out to tell me that he did well, and was happy to answer the few questions I had. My son told me that his hygienist was "cool", which is high praise indeed from him! A week later, I took my son back for a checkup on the gums where his teeth had been removed, and to have the remaining adult molars sealed to help guard against future cavities. At the same time, I had my 10-year-old daughter in for her cleaning. Both kids said they liked the hygienists that were working with them. I will say this, Dr. Alcorn has a no-nonsense way about her. She is definitely not the "warm fuzzy" type, although her receptionist and her hygienists are. If you are a very sensitive individual that prefers to be coddled a bit, then Dr. Alcorn is probably not a good match for you. There are some highly regarded dentists in Charlottesville that specialize in sedated dentistry, that might prove a better fit. For my family, however, Dr. Alcorn and her staff turned out to be just what we needed!

One did not receive a "special…read morecoin" at the end because as the Dr. Stated "unlike her sister she wasn't good for the whole appointment and did not sit for the x-rays." She is only 4 and this was her very first appointment.... Also, In my opinion I found Dr. Stump to be condescending and rude. My other child had a lot of dental work to be done (we had not gone in a while due to COVID, moving, and loss of a job. We brush twice a day). He made me feel so bad that I actually cried after the appointment. When I went for a second opinion on all the work recommended (about $3,000...) I was told that her mouth breathing and genetics could have played a big role in her cavities, and was met with understanding and care. I was also given a different quote for almost $1,500 LESS for the same work. On top of it: One of the teeth quoted for a filling was a baby tooth that fell out two Months later. I would not recommend this place. In my Opinion; Go elsewhere if you want good work for a reasonable amount.
