He is thorough, and engages patients to take responsibility for their own health, with his support. He doesn't pass out antibiotics like candy. In all this time, there has only been one time I was unable to get a same day appointment for an acute illness, which is amazing. He also has a highly qualified Physician Assistant who supports him and she is wonderful. Dr. Cronin is kind and compassionate, and keeps up to date with latest best practices (unlike Drs. who learn in med school, and feel that that is the only right way, forever.) One of the things I love best about his practice is that he's not afraid to admit he doesn't know something, and if he doesn't know, will either figure it out or send you to a specialist if needed. AND HE DELIVERED!!!!!!! About a year later we started decreasing the frequency of the sessions and believe it or not, that was it. Unfortunately, Dr. Corcoran not so much. Dr. Corcoran does not seem to understand what continuity of care means. Recently i had a experience where i was "mailed" a prescription that was never received. I contacted the office (Thank you Terry!) and decided to wait a couple of days to no avail. Contact the office again and was informed that My PCP was on vacation, explained my situation to Debbie (office "manager") and asked her to then have prescription mailed to work since they seem to always have a problem mailing me, although no one else is. After 1/2 day, she calls to inform me that they wont mail a new prescription because Corcoran is not "familiar" with me. Mind you these are not narcotics. When i again told them i have been off for a couple of days, Debbie' s response was "well, there is nothing I can do" i asked to have either Corcoran call me or i could call at a time most convenient and was told that was not happening either. I am sorry, but if you have my 10 years medical records to your disposition and you are that lazy to take a look since you are the MD of the practice and rather not be bothered by those pesky little things such as patient care, maybe is time to change profession.

When I asked him what the hell he was talking about he said that he preferred doctors to be not to hot or not to cold. In other words not just out of med school because they don't have experience and not just about to retire because they might be a bit burned out. My doctor at East Greenwich Family Practice, Dr John Slattery, is indeed like fine porridge. He's old enough to have a lot of experience but not old enough to stop caring. Perhaps his finest quality is the ability and desire to listen. He will patiently listen to my stupid complains and then make comments or suggestions. His examinations are complete and professional but with a sense of humor. When he noticed I have quite a few scars from various mishaps he said that I should think of them as memories or souvenirs. Good idea. The light hearted approach helps things go by quicker and easier. It can be a bit difficult to get through to the office because nobody ever seems to answer the phone and for some reason things like prescriptions and faxes to the pharmacy can take longer than necessary. However the actually interact with Dr Slattery has always been excellent.

I've tried finding other primary's out of convenience of location and drive time and the quality is just not the same. It is worth the wait and drive to be seen. The staff are very nice, although I will say I didn't appreciate a comment about state medical recipients last time I was there considering the girl at the desk didn't know all the patients could hear her. Believe it or not, not everyone on state medical is a scumbag. Some have disabilities, pay for out of pocket care, and some even work! Highly inappropriate, but in no way a reflection of the other staff that room you or practitioners.
