My child came in with a broken arm and Dr. Berry had the best bedside manner with him. He was kind, took his time to make my son feel comfortable and always remembered little things about him to bring up at our follow up appointments. In today's medical world people are often treated as objects with symptoms, Dr. Berry is not only highly credentialed, but didn't look at me as a wallet. Dr. Berry performed a total knee Arthroplasty on my left knee in 2003 and my right knee in February this year. Beyond a shadow of a doubt, one the world's finest orthopedic surgeons with the credentials, experience, board certifications, and awards to support it. In my opinion, he is the best of the best. Furthermore, his staff lives up to his standards. Incredible support and care at all levels. I am 77 years old and I recovered and regained full motion of my last knee in less than 8 weeks. I understand the healing process continues, but the results have been incredible. Credit goes to hospital, a number of nurses, physical therapists, etc, but it all starts with the surgeon. Dr. Berry did my shoulder and I couldn't be happier. The pain is gone. The staff was very supportive.

Dr Berry may be a good doctor but his staff is terrible! For three months I have been trying to get an appointment for my "click finger" with him and still nothing! Usually a "click finger" takes a cortisone shot is all top solve the painful condition. 1) I received a referral to him from my Dr and did not receive a call from Dr Berry's staff for two weeks. When I checked with them they said they never received the referral. I checked with my MD and they said they sent it and sent a second one. 2) A month passed and I was seeing my MD and I also visited Dr Berry's office to verify they had received the referral. They said yes, and said they were waiting for approval from the Insurance. 3) On the next month (month 3). I went in to to his office to find out what was happening with Dr Berry. They said that they were still waiting on insurance (I am assuming that the staff was B.S. ing me by this time). So I went back to my MD and asked for him to intervene. He decided it was better to send me to another Orthopedist that was roughly 50 miles further away (Roseville). 4) Roughly a week later I received a call from Dr Berry's staff telling me they had set up an appointment. When questioned they said that they had NOT gotten approval yet... So I asked them to do their job and get it and call me back before my appointment which we had set up. When I called the day of the appointment they had not received any approval for more than an office visit and no shot (they said it was the policy of the insurance). I GIVE UP!!! Dr Berry is just awesome! He did my above the knee amputation. The after care was great. He really paid attention to my incision. I don't think I have ever seen someone look that closely at anything in my life. I had got a infection from the facility I was at & Dr Berry had me come in weekly to check it. Dr Berry is a world class surgeon and superb person. You are not going to get anyone better at UCSF, Davis or really anywhere in the world. I'm not exaggerating. I simply couldn't put into words how incredibly blessed I am that he took me on as a patient. I think the best way to portray his excellence and humanity is to simply report my story as it happened. I fell while working on a ladder and my right leg got caught between the rungs shattering my fibula and tibia (the lower leg bones). The tibia split at the plateau where it meets the knee. When I landed on the ground my lower right leg was sticking out to the side about sixty degrees from the normal alignment. Clearly the knee joint had been torn. I was conscious and able to make decisions. After calling an ambulance, I called my amazing insurance broker Lisa Nielsen and she said that Dr Berry was the best orthopedic surgeon. I asked for him when I got to Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital and he said he would be right over. He could tell from their description how significant the injury was and that it was right up his alley because of his training which includes: - UCLA undergraduate in molecular biology - Harvard medical school with a specialty in orthopedic surgery - Stanford for 2 fellowships, one in trauma, one in extremities When Dr Berry arrived I was in radiology and he took a look at my X-rays which confirmed the severity and extent of my injuries. Unfortunately, it had just become clear that he was not in my insurance network as he was no longer directly on call from the hospital. One of those insurance complexities. I was resigned to needing to work with someone else. So I said "Oh Dr Berry, I'm so sorry that you've come here for nothing, but you are not in my network." Without a moments hesitation he said "I don't care. I'll do this for free. I'm going to take care of you. You need the help and I've got this. This is a life changing injury. Don't worry about anything but healing." It was such a profound moment. His clarity, confidence and generosity touched deep inside and my whole system let go with relief. I knew I would be as ok as I could be. The radiologist actually burst into tears. It was one of those very striking and profound moments in a human life. My cousin is a retired orthopedic surgeon from VA. Even with all of his training, Dr Berry was totally willing to have a shared call between the 3 of us and he proactively shared my X-rays and course of treatment with my cousin who was confident I had found a great practitioner. That was additionally supportive and relieving as I prepared for surgery. This being a small town in the rural foothills of the Sierra Mountains in Northern California, an operating room was not available until the next day. Dr Berry got me all set up and as soon as the room was available the next day, I went in for a 4 hour surgery. A metal plate with 15 screws was installed. When my cousin and a friend with 30 years experience working in a trauma center saw the before and after X-rays they were profoundly impressed. "That's not just great work" said my cousin, "That's artistry." I'm now 8 days out from the surgery and Dr Berry has been very attentive and responsive. He has shared his cell number with me so I can reach him easily. The incisions are healing up nicely. I'm at a great rehab center where they are known for the quality of their Physical and Occupational Therapists. Every time one of the nurses or therapists asks me who my surgeon was and I tell them it was Dr Berry, they say "You are so lucky. He is clearly the best. We are incredibly fortunate to have him in our small community." As you can tell I would unreservedly refer anyone needing orthopedic surgery to Dr Berry. I was Dr. Berry's patient a little over 4 years ago. I had fallen from a ladder and fractured both wrists right at the end of the bone. I was so fortunate to Have him as my orthopedic surgeon and have healed up beyond expectations! I have full function and range of motion in both wrists now. He had to mend the breaks with plates and pins to stabilize the breaks for healing. 9 months later, I had him as the surgeon a second time due to a tendon that had been injured during the fall broke through all the way. With that tendon severed on the top of the wrist he performed the surgery to connect another tendon to my thumb that was not functioning due to severed tendon. Function of thumb not at 100%, but so close! Hitchhiking thumb on the right hand not needed anyway! Dr. Berry is not only a top notch surgeon, but is always friendly, engaging for the patient in a serious manner as well as fun and light in personality. I will always remember seeing him down the hallway while hospitalized after surgery in his summertime apparel. To make a long story short... the second day of our honeymoon near Cancun, Mexico, I fractured my ankle in two places. I had emergency surgery and spent the night in the hospital. A good friend recommended Dr. Berry so I called his office from Mexico to arrange post care and to make an appointment. I was amazed and delighted with the care and service I received from the first moment I contacted Dr. Berry. The receptionist went out of her way to schedule me even with a very full schedule. She called me back to assure me that Dr. Berry said he could tell that the surgery went well by the x-rays I sent him from Mexico. This gave me peace of mind even before I arrived to his office. They provided a wheelchair for me to get out of the car and to his office. The entire staff was compassionate, helpful and caring. I immediately felt comfortable and confident with the care Dr. Berry provided. The following day his office called me to check on how I was doing. I am only beginning to work with him but am thrilled that I am doing the very best thing I can do to heal from this accident. I highly recommend Dr. Berry! read more
