I was always a scaredy cat when it came to chiropractors…read more Then, I threw my hip and back out, and after much prodding from my roommates, who are long time clients of Dr. Cave, I finally had to admit that I was in serious pain and had been for too long. On my first visit, I found the office to be lovely, set in a relaxing office space that feel more like vacation cottages than scary offices. Walking in to the office, I was warmly greeted by a very nice receptionist named Stephanie. She was super helpful and very welcoming. The office itself is very clean and relaxing, with a beautiful lamp in the waiting room that also made me feel like I was on vacation in the North Woods of Wisconsin. Meeting Dr. Scott Cave was lovely. He is nice, funny and approachable, I did not ever feel intimidated, and he made me feel very comfortable, as he told me everything he was going to do before he did it. He did a preliminary interview, and I could tell he was actually listening and taking in my details. We started the treatment; first he kind of did a general assessment based on the info I gave him. Then he used a deep tissue massage-like thingy on my shoulders, back, lower back and hip muscles. I'm not gonna lie, it was painful, but the good kind of pain, where you know you are actually going to get some healing done. Then, he did the adjustment, which was what I had always been the most afraid of. He adjusted my shoulders, my spine, all the way down my back, and my hips. The only reason anything ever "hurt" was because of the injuries I had come in with, never from the work he was doing. Then, he had me sit up and do that neck adjusting thing that is the thing most people fear, either from cartoons, movies or The Three Stooges. It was magic! I can't describe what exactly happens, and you do hear and feel some bones or vertebrae or something in there go "crack!" really quietly, but I was so relaxed at that point, I just giggled and said something like, "oh my god! That was the best part!". We set up another appointment for sometime in the next few days. In the meantime, I did experience some aches and pains, but he had told me to expect that, so I continued using ice and heat on my back and hip. Came back for the second visit, everyone was just as friendly and fun as the first time; treatment went well. Third visit was this afternoon 6/9/20, a week after the 2nd visit, and by now, I was already feeling about 75% back to normal before I even got there. Dr. Scott did all of the same treatments and I practically skipped out of there, although he did tell me to not overdo anything. I just couldn't believe how good I was feeling. Went home and for some reason just conked out for a few hours, and I think that really has to do with how tense my muscles and joints had been for trying to support this injury for so long. It felt like they just went, "ahhhh, okay, you can rest now". When I woke up, I was slightly sore, but moving around and walking a little, combined with ice and heat, by late afternoon, I feel very little aches, and none of the sharp pains that had driven me there in the first place. I have a 4th appointment with him in a week, and then I think I will be well enough that I can just go in for maintenance every month or two.
