This doctor is fabulous and definitely knows how to treat patients. I have had severe pain in my left leg for 20 years. I had never been to a chiropractor and was very unsure if he could help me. My neurosurgeon Dr Vokshoor highly recommended me to Dr Ellis. Much to my surprise with his help I started getting some relief. Unfortunately Dr Ellis does not accept my insurance and I couldn't afford to continue seeing him. I've been experiencing severe lower back, shoulder, arm, and ankle pains from my new full time job that requires me to be at a desk with a computer all day. I called up this business since Dr. Ellis was one of the providers within my work's medical network. I called after business hours (around 6 PM during the weekday) and left a voicemail hoping to get a call back the following day in the morning. Shortly after my evening voicemail, I received a phone call from the receptionist, Renee. She was extremely accommodating towards my busy work schedule and my commuting hours that she had an appointment the next day and said I could come in after my commute (around 5-530 PM). I was already getting a great first impression of this business because I really needed to get my back checked! During my appointment the next day, I had almost no trouble finding parking. The office is located on the second floor of the business suites. There's also a back lot for more parking space. The office is very quaint and a little old school but very "homey." Renee had me fill out some paperwork and after waiting about 15 minutes, she let me into the therapy room where I then waited for Dr. Ellis. Dr. Ellis made a new patient like me feel very welcomed in his office. There's a reason why this establishment only gets 5 stars all the time! He's very wise and definitely takes his time with you to find out your medical history (allergies, surgeries, family conditions). During my first appointment, he readjusted my hips and my upper back after using heat treatment, ultrasound, and massage technique. As someone who works full time, I already felt renewed after my first visit with Dr. Ellis! If you're on the fence about seeing a chiropractor, it's definitely worth your time and money rather than taking pain medications. The readjustment process is scary and I hate the sound of cracking but it's very satisfying. Dr. Ellis makes the process go by smoothly and soundly. read more

I love Dr. Ellis! I've been having so many issues since buying a new bed so I go see him about once a month. I can be in so much pain but by later that night its gone. He uses heat, cold, compresses, massage and such before adjusting you. He's very intelligent and know's his stuff. He just tells you to come when you feel you need it. An appt. without insurance is only around $50. I will never use any other chiropractor again! Also, if you need an appointment they stay open late and will stay late just for you some nights if need be. I've been with Dr. Ellis for over 25 years. He does a better job than any chiropractor I've ever seen. My wife and older children also see Dr. Ellis. He doesn't just crack you, but does therapy before an adjustment. For me than involves heat, cold, tens, blocking, massage, and ultrasound. I always feel taller when I leave than when I came in. :) Dr. Ellis is not into seeing you multiple times a week for years. He sees you for what you need then tells you to come back when you feel you need to. If you need a chiropractor, I can't recommend Dr. Ellis more. read more

Great practice! I went in on 10/18/17 because I injured my back at work. Couldn't even rotate my torso without feeling a pinch in my lower right back area. Made a same day appointment with him. He brought me in for my consultation in a very timely fashion (I wasn't sitting in the waiting room for more than 10 minutes). Dr. Ellis was very thorough explaining the bone structure and the possibilities as to what may be causing my problem. He proceeded to run tests to narrow down the issue and then proceeded to treat. Some electro and ultrasound therapy followed by a couple of pops and I walked out of there feeling better. 3 days later, I went back for a second appointment with almost no discomfort. Similar treatment and then he decided to push back my follow-up appointment because of how well I had responded to his treatment. He didn't feel the need to milk the wallet like other practices tend to do. On a personal note, Dr Ellis is a very nice, attentive and caring doctor. He's thorough when explaining everything and more than anything, he's really honest. I don't feel he was trying to set me up with an extensive plan to realign the stars to my vertebrae. He chose the most direct and efficient plan of treatment to get me back to work with no pain as fast as possible and it worked. I would definitely recommend his practice hands down... read more

I have had sacral iliac pain for years which I have ignored because It just wasn't that bad. I recently have been doing a lot of driving which aggravated the joint x10! I was also beginning to get a lot of right hip pain with it, to the point where I wasn't able to sleep at night. After two visits the pain has been relieved. The first visit was like he released 10 years of nasty buildup out of my lower back. It was crazy. The second visit he focused more on my hip area and I have to say I have nothing but good things to say about this man. Don't underestimate the power of a chiropractor! He does good work and is very experienced and knowledgable. People give chiropractors a bad name sometimes. "Once you go you have to go to them forever". Well, I don't know if this is necessarily the case (because Ive only been twice) but its a much better option than any pain medication will do for you. read more

OMG! Dr. Ellis is awesome. I am so thankful to Dr. Ellis for helping me with my aches and pains. He got me through whiplash pain and was available to treat me whenever my neck pain was unbearable. Last fall he got me through terrible sciatic nerve pain and had me walking without a cane in a week. If you are in pain I highly recommend this chiropractic office. ORIGINAL REVIEW OF JULY 18, 2011: Excellent chiropractor! Nice as can be. I've been with Dr. Ellis for at least 10 years now--wouldn't dream of switching. JULY 31, 2017: Was recently reminiscing about all the things I've been thankful for in my life and realized I just had to add to my original, all-too-brief review of Dr. Ellis because I had been remiss in not specifying what makes him so fantastic. Dr. Ellis is basically a 6'4" teddy bear: one of the kindest, gentlest, most caring people I have ever met. He is also EXTREMELY bright, TOTALLY knows what he's doing, knows how to communicate with attorneys and insurance companies to get his patients what they need and is yet ethical (in every way, shape and form) to a fault, and explains everything to his patients as to why something is causing them problems and what he'll be doing to help correct them. He also has no qualms in referring patients to see MDs on the rare occasion when he feels a patient's maladies are out of his league. I moved from Reseda to the East Bay in Nov. 2016, which is why it says I'm from Castro Valley. But I can assure you that everything I have said here is true--and yet STILL possibly understated. And BTW: after I moved up north, I called his office to find out what modalities he uses so I could find another chiropractor who shared similar philosophies and who used similar techniques. Renée, his office manager, spent half an hour with me on the phone--at no charge. (And I can assure you that this is not a woman who whiles away her time in that office eating bonbons all day; she works her butt off. There were many other things she could have been doing instead of giving me information that wasn't going add one thin dime to that practice's bottom line.) The result: after making just 2 phone calls, I found a chiropractor up here who was (miraculously) in the exact same league as Dr. Ellis (Dr. George Kirk in Pleasanton, if you know anyone in the Bay Area who needs a chiropractor). To summarize: Although Dr. Russell Ellis is no longer my chiropractor due to geographical distance, he is still, and will likely always be, the gold standard by which I will judge any potential new chiropractor should the need arise. read more

First I want to say that if you do not have an hour or two this doctor is not yours to see. First when we arrived my son and I were put in a room waiting for the doctor. The doctor came in once then left, came in another time then left again, and hour later the doctor came in the third time and finally talked to my son. The doctor did all of this note taking then took him and put him in the room and put heat and a machine on him and told him if there is any problems to call out. Once again I was waiting for the doctor to come talk to me. Another 10 mins went by and the doctor came in and saw me and did everything with me then put me in a room and said the same thing and did the same thing. As I was laying there the heat and the machine were starting to hurt so I called out and no one answered so I Called out again and there was no answer so i called out again and there was no answer. After the third time i ripped off the machine and heat and got dressed and went back to the front and said i am done. During that time my son just got seen after laying there for at least 30mins and as the doctor walked out of my sons room he looked shocked. As I told him I was done he said you sure we can go back. I replied again no i'm done. A few days went by and my insurance wanted a receipt explaining what was paid. I spent many days trying to get hold of the staff and trying to get someones attention. Finally, I got hold of the front desk and she said I would get it in the mail in just a few days. Weeks went by and nothing received I called again, no answer. Finally I went down to the office As I entered she had a shocked look on her face. The letter was sitting right on her desk and she said " I didn't send it out yet but, since you're here ok" As well as she said the doctor wanted to talk to us about my son and it would only take five minutes. I had to go and her comment was " Oh you don't have 5 minutes." Don't get me wrong the Doctor is very respectful but is very overbooked and does not seem to have all his work together. I went to Kaiser and saw a general practitioner who couldn't be bothered with me, but had no problem writing a prescription for muscle relaxers. After the appointment I called Dr. Ellis's office, the receptionist (his wife) told me to come in even thought it was 7:00 at night. Dr. Ellis is one of the best doctors I have ever been to. I am a long time migraine sufferer who has tried EVERYTHING from changing my diet to different proactive or reactive medications, and nothing made a difference. I had a series of about 3 appointments where Dr. Ellis worked on getting my neck muscles to relax and to keep my neck properly aligned through use of ice, heat, massage, traction, stretching, and other techniques. After the third appointment, I left and decided that rather than making my next appointment for sometime 3-4 days from then, I would wait until I needed it. I used to get 1-2 migraines a day, and I went 15 without a migraine. It was a miracle! He is kind, patient, has a great bedside manner, and never makes you feel rushed.
