I like to give reviews after I worked with a business for a while. My eight year old daughter started working with Dr. Jeff over a year ago. I'm pleased to report she has learned so much from Dr. Jeff. In addition to improving her literacy with reading notes, timing, and simple composition, he works with her in distinguishing different notes by hearing them. Dr. Jeff spends time with her at the beginning of each lesson working on this. I also really like the rhythm dance where both Dr. Jeff and my daughter compose a piece and dance it out. He varies the keyboards on occasion by having my daughter work on on mini-pianos and synthesizers. For her recital, they worked on several piano pieces in addition to an improv piece which was creative and entertaining. Dr. Jeff and my daughter have a strong and compatible working relationship. He is patient and thorough with her. He keeps her on track. He also respects the 45 minutes they have and keeps the superfluous conversation down to an absolute minimum. Dr. Jeff maintains strict regard for his policies and procedures which works for me. Dr. Jeff manages multiple students and keeps a full schedule, so making sure his clients are on track with his policies are important to keeping his operation running smoothly. His waiting room is very tidy and he keeps an array of puzzles and interesting books out for parents or others to amuse themselves with while the student is busy with Dr. Jeff. Dr. Jeff is an amazing instructor and I highly recommend him! I grew up playing the flute from elementary school through middle school. I took private lessons back then also. I am now 30 years old and have always wanted to learn how to play the piano. I am a late bloomer to the piano, but my whole experience of taking Piano lesson with Dr. Jeff has been absolutely wonderful. I have been taking weekly lessons with him for over a year and a half and always walk away from a lesson encouraged, improved and feeling great (even when I don't practice as much as I should)! Dr. Jeff is a very patient teacher. There are days when I don't do my homework, and he still finds a way to make the lesson useful. He not only teaches me how to play piano but also imparts theoretical knowledge, and shares interesting trivia about the musical piece I am learning. During in-person lessons, I get to play on different types of pianos depending on the song; for e.g., on grand piano if it is a duet, on digital piano if the song requires a special type of sound, etc. Dr. Jeff has been very accommodating during the lockdown by providing virtual lessons, making video tutorials available and encouraging students to record and upload their own videos. He also hosts annual recitals for students (audience restricted to students participating), which expose students to different types of music and help them overcome performance anxiety. Dr. Jeff is a great teacher. My 7 year old son is learning piano and my 9 year old daughter is learning flute. He even helped me find inexpensive instruments for them. My daughter recently had her first band concert and each child got to play a song by themselves - I have to admit I was shocked at how much better my daughter was than her classmates, and I attribute it to the extra help she gets by working with Dr. Jeff weekly. Dr. Jeff is very patient with my incredibly energetic and TALKATIVE kids, refocusing them when they get offtrack during a lesson (which is frequently). I want to tell you something about Dr. Jeff that someone else might not know. To do this, I must first tell you about my mother who was a concert pianist and teacher. I learned how to learn from her, and it wasn't from direct instruction, it was from example. I never knew her to have an opening in her schedule all 51 years of her professional career. She was a brilliant pianist, but an even more brilliant teacher. She knew that people study piano because they love the sound of the piano first, and the teacher second. She had two concert grade pianos and she kept them in perfect condition all the time -- people just loved to hear her play and teach on those pianos! Dr. Jeff is one of the only teachers I have met since who understands how all this works. I know about Dr. Jeff and his piano because I am the Registered Piano Technician (RPT) that takes care of his piano! The teaching experience is a triangle between the student, the teacher and the piano, and when there is love for music and people managing these three, the result is always wonderful, and students will choose music lessons over all else. I was a college professor for many years, and I wish I could claim Dr. Jeff as a student, but he didn't need me -- he figured all this out on his own !!
