In my opinion, this institution is a huge setback to our area. They seem to be more concerned with…read moretheir own interests than the people they "serve". I have tried for over a month to contact patient relations. I got one call back from "Ashley". I called back leaving messages to call back, but now for over a month, they have seemingly deliberately ignored my requests. I put another call in to the main 3333 number to make a fresh request. The person answering clearly knew who I was and what the situation I was calling about was. I was assured I would be called back, but as of one week I have heard nothing. In general, I hear many people say that the doctors there generally don't really care about their patients, that they are arrogant, and don't communicate well. There is much more that i could say, but i will say that a large majority of the staff, are genuine people from our area, and do their job well, but the medical providers are the main problem that i have noticed and heard complaints about. There are definitely some good doctors, but they apper the exception not the rule. i only have experience with certain providers. Some are great some not at all. I do hear feed back from a number of people i know who feel similarly. One other important observation is that when you rate a Stanford doctor highly, they give you a rating questionnaire AFTER EVERY VISIT. Once you give a bad rating, say because you learned that an "excellent " physician was actually a "fair weather friend" and suddenly wasn't so good at all if things got challenging, then they seem to stop asking for evaluations. You will notice that their physicians public individual ratings are based on internal surveys, and it is difficult to find a way to rate the physician outside of their internal system, thus likely artificially boosting their ratings by limiting the negative ratings...

If you are a WOC with break through pain from chronic pain cluster headaches, hemiplegic migraines,…read moreand trigeminal neuralgia/ atypical facial pain...if you choose standards ED proceed with caution. IKYKY Came to the ED for a really bad cluster headache and trigeminal neuralgia attack. Feel free to look up the nicknames for those illnesses. When getting treatment, a PA made sure to tell me he doesn't prescribe narcotics, which was odd because that would actually make my pain worse and I'm allergic to them. The comment came unprompted when I was crying and the nurse trying to start an IV. They gave me fluids and migraine cocktail despite telling them it won't work. The treatment finishes, and as expected it didn't work. I eventually get to the observation unit, not technically admitted but there to get some imaging. They give me IV Tylenol, after telling me that I might have a Tylenol overuse headache along with more fluids. I got Ativan for an MRI, had the scan, and then go to bed around midnight. I wake up 3 hours later in excruciating pain and used the call butting to ask for pain relief. They bring me both ice and a hot pack. When the nurse came I did my best to not cry, only because it would have increased my pain, and hugged a pillow while they gave me the packs. 2 hours passed and I'm sobbing and absolutely inconsolable. This pain was past the 10/10 limit on the pain scale. I was in so much pain to the point my mental health was becoming compromised. I rang the call button through out the night and was only given heat packs. Hours passed in a pure state of paralyzing pain until around 9-10AM when a nurse came in to check on me. I was just crying, not able to do anything but just curl up in a ball and wanted to just go home and be with my pets if I was just going to suffer. I came here because UCSF ran out of answers on what they can do to help me very treatment resistant pain. They eventually give me more Ativan to stop me from crying and then left me alone in my room still in excruciating pain. Around noon I had finally gotten highflow oxygen, which I learned at the time was the tip treatment for cluster headaches. I waited in so much and felt so vulnerable and minimized with how I was treated. They were happy to use Ativan to stop me from crying from pain because I guess it's annoying, than to actually treat conditions called the suic*de headache/ disease and help me get to a pain level that is bearable. The neurologist that saw me gave me the "I'm sorry this is happening" and refused to write an RX because I didn't qualify due to me not having respiratory issues despite oxygen being the recommended treatment for my cluster headaches. They recommended that I come back every time for O2 for my cluster headaches instead of having a home treatment. This experience was definitely a learning moment, I didn't get this type of treatment that had such contempt for chronic pain patients when I lived in Oakland and went to Highland. I left feeling like I should have never came to the ER and should have dealt with this by my self at home, no matter how bad it gets. I guess the silver lining is that they were less condescending than UCSF, I guess. The only reason why I would come back is because my options are limited on where I can go.

But now I no longer have Kaiser, and I am a man who fears change. But let me share with you all about my experience at San Ramon Regional Medical Center. My Cardiologist Dr. Sidhu was absolutely amazing, I couldn't wait for each of my next appointments (weird right?) But he made me feel safe and informed about everything that needed to happen, where I was at in the process, and what was his most educated plan of action to get my ticker back ticking right. He was thorough folks! I appreciate that kind of service. Then, they didn't make me wait months out San Ramon Regional Medical Center acted promptly at this serious matter, even if they did this everyday, I couldn't tell. They took my Afib seriously. We can get you in Friday for a cardioversion because you have taken your pradaxa consistently we can move forward. I arrived at the hospital at 8 am for prep. Hospitable guards, check in folks, all the way to the nurses. Prep time was swift and efficient. The entire time people are sharing with me what to expect and reassuring me that I will be ok. Perhaps fear shown on my disposition. My previous experience was nothing like this, not comparing, I appreciate Kaiser and the professionals there, but this felt sooooo safe. My Cardioversion without TEE, happened and when I woke my ticker was right back where it should be and I was met with a slew of caring physicians who wanted to see my smile with a regular heart beat. I recommend San Ramon Regional Medical Center for all your medical needs. They will not disappoint!!!!

This has been my families hospital since it was established. My first encounter was taking my 13…read moreyear old son to the ER when he was having terrible seizures. The first time we were there the ambulance had put a neck brace on and strapped him to the board they carry you with. They left him strapped in a bed in the ER this way with NOBODY WATCHING HIM. I told the nurse he usually is nauseous and vomits after a seizure. She dismissed my concerns and walked away leaving me alone with my son who promptly started vomiting WHILE STRAPPED DOWN AND IMMOBILE. I grabbed the board, turned the board and him sideways so the vomit would not drown him. I screamed "I need a little help here!" And after a minute the nurse came running to help. She said "oh I guess we could take off the neck brace." Holy shit lady you almost killed my son, geez ya think? If I wasn't there my son would have died because they weren't looking in on him. Next was my mom who tripped and landed on her wrist which shattered it. They admitted her but since it was the evening they had NO ONE to take care of her arm so they made her sleep overnight with her shattered wrist by itself LAYING ON A PILLOW. They weren't going to give her any pain meds either until I asked for them. Next was my dad a year ago. He has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's and they know this. My dad went to the emergency room from his care home so no one was with him. When he was being discharged transport people were there to pick him up. They left him in the ER room by himself and my dad thought he would get out of ER bed and to the transport bed on his own. Well he fell and broke his hip. This is entirely the hospitals fault. They left him alone knowing he had Alzheimer's and not able to walk. They then MISSED that he had broken his hip released him and sent him back to his care home. He ended up in a huge amount of pain overnight and had to go back to the same hospital. While he was admitted there his nurse decided to square up on me when I was voicing my concerns. Next up! My mother was admitted with a bad infection last week. She has dementia and she freaked out and lost her mind while in there. All the hospital did was call me to talk to her on the phone at all times of the day and night. I am on crutches and it's very painful to walk so couldn't be there all the time. The nurses looked to US to control her behavior while there - isn't that their job?? I was traumatized by seeing my mom in that mental condition that they left up to the family to handle. She kept trying to leave, kept accusing people in the hospital of assaulting her (no they didn't) she was aggressive and agitated all hours of the day AND night and they did NOTHING. Edited to add: flashes from last week are coming back. One of the days I was hurriedly hobbling into the medical center (on my crutches) and was in the 2nd floor elevator, just as I walked out I heard overhead "CODE GRAY - CODE GRAY" and the nurses station that happened to be right in front of me ALL of the workers (nurses, EVERYBODY) audibly groaned and let out very loud audible gasps and groans and said very accusatory and loudly "It's THAT lady!" and "Oh my GOD!" I felt so very humiliated and embarrassed because I just knew it was about my mother who they were unable to manage. Please tell your workers (because I know you are reading this) to NOT be so very childlike and unprofessional to do something like this. Tell them the family might be rushing to the hospital - and could hear them - to manage their mother when the hospital couldn't or wouldn't.

By far the worst patient care I've ever experienced. I'd be switching to a different provider…read moreduring next open enrollment. In one instance, I was waiting for interpretation of important test results related to my health. Instead of receiving an explanation of the results and guidance on next steps, I was told to contact another department myself. Patients should not have to act as intermediaries between Kaiser providers and departments to get answers about tests that Kaiser ordered. In another instance, I sent a message to my primary care physician and received a response from a nurse stating that the doctor was out of the office and that if I wanted an answer, I should resend my message after the doctor returned. I found this completely unreasonable. Why is it the patient's responsibility to keep resending the same message until it happens to reach a doctor at the right time? Messages should either be held for the physician upon return or routed appropriately within the care team. The recurring issue is a lack of ownership. Ordering tests is only part of patient care. Following up with results, explaining what they mean, and providing next steps are equally important. Patients should not have to repeatedly chase down information or navigate internal communication gaps on their own. I expect better coordination and accountability from a healthcare organization of this size.

I am writing to express my concern about my recent experience at the Kaiser Emergency Department…read more The wait times are extremely long, often lasting 4-5 hours before being seen by a provider. What is particularly frustrating is that there are times when the waiting area appears nearly empty or has very few patients, yet patients are still left waiting for several hours without any clear explanation or updates. In addition, I was disappointed with the level of customer service I received. Staff members were not communicative about delays, and it was difficult to get information about the status of my visit. As a patient seeking emergency care, this lack of communication and support added unnecessary stress to an already difficult situation. I understand that emergency departments can be busy and that patient care is prioritized based on medical urgency. However, better communication, transparency about wait times, and improved customer service would greatly improve the patient experience. I would appreciate it if this feedback could be reviewed and addressed to help improve care for patients in the future. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.
