I have been seeing Dr. Franke for several years. I was referred to him by a Neurosurgeon who had operated on me in an emergent manner after getting Staph infection caused by a pain doctor who inadvertently injected one of my lumbar discs while performing a spinal steroid injection. Upon being discharged from a challenging two week stay in the hospital, my "new" Neurosurgeon who has an office next to Dr. Franke referred me to him for continuing pain management.
Before I get to my review, I have to say one thing about a review given here by another patient here. The review about Dr. Franke telling a patient that her appointment with him was more important than missing an appointment because of two immediate family deaths is EXTREMELY suspect. Dr. Franke is one of the most professional, intelligent, kind and caring doctors I have ever met and I could never imagine him saying something like this to patient. There was most undoubtedly was a communication issue and the patient misunderstood what he said.
During the past few years, issues with my spine have degraded and now I need a five-level lumbar fusion with instrumentation. Needless to say, I have been in a ton of pain since I began seeing him post op spinal infection surgery. Dr. Franke has performed over a dozen a dozen epidural steroid injections and several nerve ablations procedure on me. I will NEVER trust any another pain doctor to perform injections on me since getting an infection from my prior doctor; I just won't trust anyone else but Dr. Franke having gone through the agony of having a spinal infection and dealing with the long surgical recovery period.
Dr. Franke has done an admiral job of doing everything possible to keep my pain under control. Before deciding to go through with the upcoming lumbar fusion I even consulted Dr. Franke for his opinion (in addition to my Neurosurgeon) about getting a spinal cord stimulator to address the pain cause my specific spinal conditions. Several other pain doctors were pushing a spinal cord stimulator solution on me without ever analyzing my imaging or really knowing my long-term prognosis of not getting a fusion to degenerating disc and spinal disease, so I was very hesitant to get one implanted inside of me. In the end I trusted my Neurosurgeon and Dr. Franke and have decided to move forward with the fusion.
I have been in pain management for the past two decades after having an ATV accident in the Southwestern U.S. sand dunes. I have been to many Neurosurgeons, pain doctors, physical therapists and chiropractors over the 20+ years to help control my back pain and leg pain caused my nerves in the lower back. Dr. Franke flat out is the best. If you seriously want to get pain under control and live a more functional and pain free life, I recommend you see Dr. Franke. If your pain can be helped he can help you. In my case now, I can either live having to take pain medication or get a spinal fusion and hopefully live a pain free life without being dependent on a substance to live a quality life. So as much as I love Dr. Franke, and am so grateful for having him as my doctor, I hope, after recovering from this spinal fusion surgery (my third back surgery) I won't ever have to see him again. read more
