It wasn't always but for the past 3 or 4 years (possibly ever since Crozier was bought out?) it is a miracle if I can get someone on the phone after holding for half an hour, after which time they now force you to leave a msg or hang up. This is a problem mostly with the phone option of "other" which would include Suboxone refills, which is an important part of Feinberg's practice. Also any other narcotic refills, calling to say you're running late, insurance issues, etc. I don't ever receive a return phone call letting me know that they are working on it or got my message - I just have to call around to the 3 or 4 pharmacies that are either where I live now or uses to live for an Rx to see if it has been called in and wait a week or two to hear back about an authorization for a test- that they make at their Crozier testing centers (bow over an hour away from me in Blue Bell) unless you know to ask them to ask for a specific imaging or whatever business. The best and worst experiences I had, however, were with the after hours answering service. The first time, it was 8 or at night and I was in Atlantic City. I realized I had forgotten one of my medications (I take 9... it's understandable) and it is one that if i miss by only a few hours I have incredibly scary and uncomfortable side effects from. We called the office and the woman who answered, an after hours answering service worker, went above and beyond for me. She somehow got in touch with Dr. F and I was able to make it with 30 seconds to spare at the pharmacy. That was years ago. A couple months ago, instead of my thyroid medication I take 50mcg of, I was given an Rx of the thyroid medication I take 5mcg of in a 50mcg dose. The generic names are almost identical. I had been taking it for a few days before I realized and was really freaked out about it. They had closed the office at 4 that day (a holiday Friday so Tuesday was the next time the office would be open) so I got the after hours person. I was literally crying, realizing I hadn't been taking my medication for close to a week and had been taking 20x the amount of the other. I have no idea how this happened but I was pleading and begging with her. Could she have been nicer? Yes. Was what happened her fault? No. She said she was not allowed to contact the doctors unless it was life and death and that she would get fires otherwise. Quite a policy change.

I finally found a dr who believes in lowcarb and who doesn't just jump to drugs right away, willing to try natural remedies first. I know natural remedies work bc 6 yrs ago I saved my life by using CPAP for sleep apnea and drastically changing my diet. I wanted a dr who doesn't just jump to drugs right away and I found him! It's by far the nicest looking doctor's office I've ever visited. As for Dr. Garg, my previous review remains true and today's visit only solidified my opinion. I don't feel awkward saying I love Dr. Garg. That may seem like an exaggeration, but if anything, it's an understatement. I am eternally grateful for the aid he has provided, and continues to provide, my wife and best friend. It took years to find a doctor with this level of intelligence, education, warmness, trustworthiness, and empathy, but Dr. Garg makes all the searching and effort worthwhile. He's more than just my wife's pain management doctor. I consider him my friend.

On my appointment date with medical history and current labs n hand, I found the staff very thorough and Doctor Stein exceptional. The practice started with Dr. Greenwald, and then went to Dr. Alan Shakt before Dr. Stein bought it when Dr. Shakt retired. Dr. Stein has owned the practice for a good couple of years now, so I know him pretty well. This practice is located on Morrell Avenue just off of Frankford, in the medical building next to the shopping center with Mr. Chicken It's on the left if you're coming from Frankford Ave. Conveniently, there's also a place to get blood tests done in the same building, just a different suite. Dr. Stein is a family practitioner who graduated from the Pennsylvania College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) about 11 years ago or so, so he's still pretty young. He's extremely nice, and he spends quality time with each patient, with his attention fixed firmly upon the patient during the office visit. He doesn't rush you in and out like a lot of doctors, and he listens carefully as you describe your symptoms. He's very careful about giving antibiotics only when needed, and he is extremely well-informed about the latest medical issues. He's very helpful with diet information, and he's particularly good and readjusting my spine if my back hurts (I'm young, I know, but I have back issues sometimes). I also trust his referrals to specialists because he knows his stuff. He's also got a cool PDA type of thing that he uses to enter prescriptions electronically, and *poof* they zoom through the air and print out at the front desk. That way, the pharmacist can read the prescription. He's also really available when the office isn't open, for emergencies, and he has coverage when he's not available. So, even though he's a solo practitioner, he's very accessible. His staff is also really, really nice. I've known some of them since I was really little, and the others have been there for a long time. It's a good sign when there is little staff turnover at a business, I think. I just have two tiny complaints. The first is that I sometimes find it difficult to get through on the phone when I call to make an appointment. It seems like it's always either busy or I get the answering service even though the office is open. My second complaint is that I always have to wait a while when I come in for an appointment. It's not unusual for me to get called back 30 minutes after my appointment time. I suspect that it's because Dr. Stein does spend so much time with each patient, but sometimes I'm in a hurry and it's annoying. My parents go here, too, and my mom once complained (firmly) to Dr. Stein about it, and it was like she kicked a puppy. He's far to nice to yell at. Honestly, though, these two complaints are extremely minor because I am happy to have a doctor whom I can trust and who I know cares about me. On a final note, I'll leave you with a story. I moved to Connecticut for two years for grad school, and, my first week there, I got the most awful stomach bug I've ever had. I threw up nonstop for hours, and I didn't have a doctor up there because I'd just moved, so I called Dr. Stein. I told him what I was experiencing, and he wasted no time in calling a prescription to the nearest pharmacy for a medicine that would make me stop puking. And it worked. That's a doctor who cares because he made no money from me on that call. It's not like he could charge my insurance for an office visit. He's the best doctor.

The staff is friendly, courteous and knowledgeable. I do not see a huge turnover in staff. They have assisted me with various referrals and let I have always been seen the same day for a sick visit. The office is pretty busy but there is never a long wait. I have stopped in to ask a few questions and never felt like I was imposing. Once, when I was sick and the office on Sheffield Street was closed, I went to the F street office and was seen pretty quickly.
