Dave is the man! I was lucky enough to catch him before his move to Texas. I called one afternoon and spoke with someone who took my info and said Dave would give me a call within 15 minutes. He did indeed and must have sensed my frustration with what had become known as the plumbing twilight zone at my house. I was stoked he agreed to come to the next day and take a look. He showed up AND was on time (I live up off of Alba road so it's not easy to find) He was great about explaining things to me and tried for a few hours to figure out why the washer was backing up into the tub... along with a few other things that didn't make any sense to me whatsoever. It was late, so Dave had to resign despite not figuring out the issue. My tub is a weird design, and everything is tough to access, etc. There was no question he tried everything he could. He apologized and said there was no charge (!!) He gave me a few other plumbers to call and wished me luck. The next day he texted me to ask if I'd be home Saturday morning. He had been thinking about my set up and had a few more ideas. I could tell it was bugging him and he wanted to get to the bottom of the issue. LOVE that in a person!! Saturday morning, Dave shows up (on time again) and conquers it. Dave is very kind, respectful of your house/property and a true master at what he does. He's also a crazy wealth of information. I was literally following him around with a pad of paper and pen writing stuff down (and he didn't mind lol). My only regret is finding him 13 years too late! Texas you lucked out! read more

I found DPS Plumbing on Yelp and called them to check a pipe leak in the attic. Dave was quick to respond and mentioned his hourly rate was $75 per hour. I agreed and had Dave come out the next day to assess the damage. Unfortunately, the ceiling sheetrock collapsed overnight from the water accumulation, but the good thing was the attic was now exposed for Dave to easily see the leak. Dave arrived right before 9am and gave an estimate of $623, which was 6 hours of labor totaling $450 and $173 in materials. I thought the estimate was high (he first wrote 5 hours but crossed it out and changed it to 6 hours). And his estimate didn't include replacing the ceiling sheetrock afterwards. When I asked Dave if it would really take 6 hours to repair since he could see the leak easily and didn't have to hunt around for the leak, he said yes 6 hours. Since all that water was starting to soak the carpet and furniture, I decided to just get it done and agreed to the estimate. Dave started at 9am and finished around 12 noon. After he was done, I asked if it would still cost $623 since it only took 3 hours instead of 6 hours. He said it's still $623. I paid it and reminded myself to never call him again or recommend him to friends & neighbors. Btw, Dave used about 8 feet of AquaPex tubing to replace the bad section of leaking galvanized pipe. I checked afterwards and AquaPex costs around $50 for a large 100 feet coil. I don't see how he could justify charging $173 for 8 feet of AquaPex tubing and some pipe fittings. In summary, Dave was responsive and able to complete the repair, but way overcharged on both labor and materials. I understand there's overhead to run a business (licenses, insurance, gas, etc). But to charge 6 hours of labor for a job that was completed in 3 hours, plus $173 for materials that cost $30-$40 at most, that just seems wrong and bad for the business reputation. Dave is awesome! We got married a few weeks ago and took a few days off to road trip up the coast, only to return back home to the most disgusting backed-up bathtub situation... trust me, if you can see your new husband trying to plunge a handheld drain snake through standing butthole water a mere 5 days after getting hitched, you can make it through anything! After 1.5 days of failed DIY plumbing attempts, we read the rave reviews for DPS, saw that they were located down the road from us in the mountains, and gave them a call. A very nice lady answered and said Dave would call us back within 15min. It was late afternoon, but he said he could swing by the following day around the same time, and he was true to his word! He and Tristan (Trystan?) showed up, got straight to business in the 95-degree heat, and unplugged our main line through the septic tank + removed the roots causing the blockage (a common problem, I found out) and had us right as (beautifully clear, fecal-free) rain within the hour for a very reasonable price. Will DEFINITELY save ourselves the DIY hassle and leave plumbing to the professionals in the future, and Dave & Co. are wonderfully professional. Dave did a great job fixing a shower valve. Other plumbers wanted to create access to the valve by demolishing the bathroom tiles which would have costed over $1000 plus the cost of the plumbing work. Dave came in all ready to create his own access through plywood in a crawl space (wasn't easy but he did it right). Had to call again for a tub leak and was able to just text him what happened, Dace adjusted his schedule to work with mine & fixed it in no time. Good conversation - could have charged a lot more to cut holes in a wall (which I was expecting & dreading) but he was able to fix everything without doing that! Checked a couple of other things I was concerned about for no extra charge and stayed longer than he had to so that I could run / drain everything again just to make sure it was actually fixed!! Dave is amazing at what he does. He responded back within the hr to every phone message I left. It turns out I had to have the entire system under my house redone. He quoted me about 1/2 the price of the other two plumbers I had take a look. Because of that I decided to use him to do the job. Reliable, Knowledgeable, Friendly, Professional, and Reasonably Priced! I wish I had learned of him sooner! My testimony: I was in desperate need of a plumber on a Monday night. At 4:30pm my kitchen sink clogged and then water backed up. I tried plunging, but more water backed up though the drain. I was really worried it would continue to do so and actually overflow. Well, I spent about half an hour calling local business and leaving messages. No one was open. Dave got back to me and told me he could come by within the hour. In the meantime, a second company actually got back to me. When I asked about they after hour rate, they quoted over double what Dave quoted (and charged me) for the first hour. Naturally, I told them I wasn't interested and looked forward to hiring Dave. He showed up as promised around 6pm (I didn't call him until after 5pm), checked my clog, retrieved the appropriate tool from his truck (a power snake), and cleared my drain in about 10 minutes with virtually no mess. It turned out that living in a condo means I share a drain with other units and my upstairs neighbor's water was backing up my sink when I wasn't running water. There was a clog somewhere further down our shared line, which Dave easily removed. I've had to hire a plumber once per year since moving to my condo and now I know why! It wasn't necessarily me causing the clogs. so nice to finally learn that. Dave also answered the 100 "why" questions my toddler had. :-) I only wish I had learned of DPS the first time I had a clog. We have had Dave out to clear out the main drain to our septic tank twice. He is incredibly nice and punctual if not early which is greatly appreciated when your toilets are backing up. I'm so stoked to have found Dave at DPS plumbing. Great service and fairly priced. He was able to come the same day I called him (he called to say he would be late which allowed me to run an essential errand). Dave is very friendly and experienced with plumbing. He unclogged the drain and tightened a loose faucet that was hard to get to. Although difficult to maneuver he persevered and was able to get the faucet tightened with some effort. He also checked for leaks under the dishwasher after I'd already paid without extra charge. Finally, he is aware of messes and used drop clothes and towels extensively which I appreciated given the scope of the task at hand. Our water supply line broke over the weekend. I called five or six plumbers and Dave was the only one who called back the same day. He came out on Sunday, gave me a rough estimate and some tips for a temporary fix, then squeezed us in on Monday for a permanent repair.
