Jim just completed an amazing restoration in our log cabin. After 50 years, we knew we had some wall damage and some critters and Jim faced our challenges head on. He devised a plan to preserve as much of the original pine walls as possible and integrated the new pieces beautifully. He identified the root of the problem - leaks at the chimney - and he had it sealed and patched fast. We then made a surprise discovery - our old log beam mantle had rotted through. We had no idea how we would find a piece of wood that would match the cabin and Jim worked magic. In two hours he found a gorgeous salvage mantle replacement - amazing. I can't recommend them more highly thoughtful, hard working and collaborative. He solved all of our problems and we plan to work with him as our go to crew from now on. read more

June 25, 2015 was the first day Jim Dow brought himself and crew to our residence to remove several tall trees. Unfortunately, his company destroyed our driveway with dropping trees on it and bringing in a tree tractor trailer that placed metal plates on the driveway, which is made of asphalt. Rather than place rubber pads under the plates, they damaged our driveway. The cost to replace the driveway, which is what is necessary because the damage was so significant is over $8000. I don't recommend Dow for tree removal. He had one of his crew climb a tree to remove branches and drop the tree, which is extremely dangerous. Dow should have had a boom truck and take down the tree safely. By not having a boom truck also lengthened the job to two days, which also cost us more money. The tree truck also damaged the driveway by dropping oil and fuel. Jim Dow should have come back to clean up those areas, but did not. They placed the wood chipper on the lawn which severely damaged that area and cost us over $1500 to repair and replace. We did not choose Dow to removal the trees, but rather our solar company selected Dow to remove the trees. There is one good thing to say about Dow and his crew is that they were on the job at 7:00am, the crew was ready to go within minutes of setup. Jim Dow should have offered to participate in the damage caused by the truck on the driveway and lawn but he hadn't returned any of our calls or letters. A poor business person who clearly does not care about reputation. No need to worry because once the driveway is repaired, I can assure that my insurance company will go after Dow legally for the funds. He was also supposed to grind the stumps. I discovered that on their second trip back a few days later, he did not grind down two stumps and instead covered them with wood chips from another tree that had the stump ground down. This is theft and he should have done the job as promised. I certainly do not recommend Jim Dow for tree removal. We will end up spending over $10,000 for damages caused by him and over $2500 for him to unsafely remove trees. read more
