Great salon that is open everyday! With my busy work schedule Sunday mornings seem to be the best time for me. Thankfully the hours everyday are convenient. Great staff and above all, Will, is the bomb when it comes to hair cuts. He is very personable, funny and cuts some mean hair! I had a couple of bad experiences prior to using Will at the same salon. He has made me a believer that a place can be redeemed. Cuts are inexpensive. Wait time is short but I do suggest: 1. Making an appt (with Will...but seriously I am sure the others are just as good). 2. Tipping really well. 3. Bring cash because they don't accept CC's... I needed to get a deep condtioning treatment for my hair and a friend. My friend also wanted a cut, and I needed my hair styled for my brother's wedding. Being in graduate school across the coast made it hard for to make an appointment in advance. I called the day of and they were able to squeeze and my friend in. Not only did they do a great job with the condtioning, the staff was so friendly, and knowledgeable! Alison cut my friend's hair, and listened to exactly what my friend want and her hair looked amazing! My hairstylist, listen to the styling I wanted and did a wonderful job! Nicole saved my (hair's) life! I had never been to this salon before but after a color-gone-wrong on Saturday, I was desperate to find a salon open on Sundays. I found DTS and called first thing Sunday morning. Nicole was available for a 10 am appointment. She saw my awful, awful pink and went right at getting it lifted. She was so attentive to my hair during the lift, making sure every last bit of the magenta was gone. We looked at swatches for a replacement color and because I was ready to leave my pastel pink days behind me, she found the perfect base blond. I am a regular customer at Downtown Salon. I love having my hair done at this salon. Everyone is very nice from Yvonne who shampoos my hair to Tom who colors, cuts and styles my hair regularly. Their prices are reasonable and their service is awesome! At times, when Tom is busy and I have an appointment where I want my hair to look good, other stylists would step in to blowout my hair. I have been a customer of Downtown Salon for a little over a year now. After trying numerous salons in my area and not being too happy with the results, I asked for a recommendation from a friend who always has wonderful looking hair. She suggested Downtown Salon and Tom the stylist. The Salon is a bit out of my way, I'm from Randolph, but traveling a little is well worth the trip. I am extremely happy with my hair each time. I usually have my hair dyed, hi-lighted and cut. The prices are reasonable and in addition, the people who work at Downtown, are all friendly and welcoming. WORST BLOWOUT I have ever had! I have shoulder length naturally wavy hair that is ridiculously easy to blowout. My regular stylist in NY blows out my hair with a beach wavy look in 20 min. I work in the area and have an event to attend in the evening so I booked a last minute lunch time appointment. I believe his name was Anthony, he was very chatty and nice, but a terrible stylist. He asked how I wanted my hair and I said I like a wavy blowout (mind you my stylist can do this strictly using a blower and round brush) He was blowing my hair without using a diffuser, I have NEVER had blown my hair straight without a diffuser. Never. As he was blowing my hair without sectioning it at all, it looked like a frizzy disgusting bird's nest. He told me couldn't get the frizz out using a blower so he was going to need to use the flat iron for the hair's closest to my face and a jumbo curling iron to smooth everything else out - now this salon supposedly charges $25 for a blowout and $35 for a blowout using hot tools i.e., a flat iron or a curling iron. He started flat ironing my hair and I asked to just leave it straight with the iron because I didn't want to chance how waves would come out. When I go to pay he tells me it's $40 and I asked why and he said because of the flat iron and the length of my hair (again shoulder length). If I didn't have to rush back to work I would have made a big fuss. I can do my own hair better than this man did it and now I am $40 out and hate my hair. Oh and they don't take debit or credit cards so I had to use a nearby atm (not my bank) and pay that fee as well. You think they could have mentioned that when I made the appointment. Never again. UPDATE: Upon posting my review, the stylist reached out to me personally and offered to refund my money $40 plus the $5 tip (yes I still gave a tip because that's just me). This was a classy move on his part and appreciated. read more

She thought I couldn't see her and when she realized I could, completely tried to brush it off as if she wasn't just mocking me. Staff is friendly and they weren't too busy for a last-minute appointment during the holiday period, so I guess I should have taken that as a warning. The place is neat and tidy, but the stylist seemed like she was in a hurry. She didn't even cut the top of my head and when I asked her, she said she was concerned about it becoming too short and sticking up...really? I had gone 5 weeks since my last cut and clearly needed more than a "trim". I'll be okay for Christmas, but I'll need another haircut in two weeks. I guess for half the price I got half the hair cut. I went to Fran to get a cut. I called that morning and I was able to get in that afternoon. Everyone was so nice and, of course, the shampoo and conditioner felt great. I told Fran I wanted a textured shorter bob a la Julianne Hough and she explained why it would look great and why not to go shorter. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. There is lots to point out in a single experience. I booked a blow out here because I had my bridal shower on a Sunday and this was the only salon in the area of my venue that was open. the website said the starting price was $18, which was cheap in comparison to a couple others in the area. When I entered there were several employees sitting sloppily on the couch complaining about how housewives are lazy. I was escorted to the sink by a young girl who washed my hair. This was an awkward experience as she seemed not to know how to massage shampoo into someone's head, and used more of a slapping motion. When I stood up I felt that she had not reached part of my hair near my neck and assumed the hair stylist would point it out. The stylist was much older and should notice it and point it out to teach the newer younger employee. Nope, she began styling my hair even though it wasn't completely washed. She had problems of her own- In order to get my hair on the brush she would push it against my head and neck, using it like Velcro. Also, this woman was a smoker and I am not so I had to smell smoke the whole time. At this point I just wanted to get up and walk out. But, I knew that I had no other way to get my hair done, no dryer brush or time, before I had to get to my event. So I thought about it and since this $18 blowout was cheaper than buying a brush and blow dryer, I stuck it out. Once complete, I was handed a ticket for $45!!! When did that happen?! I was told that because of the length of my hair and because they used flat iron and curling iron I would pay more. I should have been informed before having these costs tagged on. So I complained and paid $45 for my miserable experience. Will never return for any reason. In summary: -Miserable employees -Careless when washing the hair -Stylist doesn't know how to use a brush -Smelled of cigarettes -Overcharged read more

I have been getting my hair highlighted and cut by Tom for nearly 15 years. I moved to Philadelphia for 6 years and still made appointments for when I was up visiting my parents. My whole family goes to him. The highlights are always just what I want--really subtle and not chunky, making them look really natural and "sun kissed." Friends have asked where I get my hair highlighted and I always send them his way because the prices are so reasonable and he does a really good job every time. I had a HUGE wedding party (about 12 people) go in for simple, but elegant half-up do's and blowouts first thing on a Sunday morning. The team DownTown supplied us with was efficient, flawless, and made sure my girls were going to look spectacular all day. Needless to say, they did -- each of us had a slightly different style (which i loved) that held well until nightfall. In particular, Jenn P. was wonderful! She did my hair and it was lovely, elegant, and really did stay that way the entire day. I booked this salon for my best friends wedding day. We found the place because it was the only one in the area with reasonable pricing. We went in on the morning of the appointment and everything looked okay. But we were wrong. The way the woman did my hair was horrendous. She did not know what she was doing. I have very fine hair, and she made it look like it was stuck flat on my head. I had asked her for volume and she did the opposite of what I had asked. The other girls were also very un-happy with the way their hair turned out. The day wasn't about us, so it was okay. However, the bride was unhappy, which made us all unhappy in the end. We also decided to get our makeup done "professionally". It was ANYTHING but professional! The guy knew absolutely nothing about applying makeup and he didn't have many choices when it came to colors or brands of makeup. We kept having to tell him what to put on and how to apply it. When I sat down in the chair, all he did was apply foundation and blush and said I was done. Mind you, I paid $45 for this! It was absurd. Everyone in the bridal party ended up going back to the hotel and taking off this "makeup" and doing their own. This should not happen on someones wedding day! We are all appalled by this kind of "service." The only good thing I can say about this service was the way they treated me when I told them I was unhappy with my hair. I didn't like it at all and asked for it to be redone. They did it at no extra charge and the lady who redid it actually knew what the hell she was doing. She really cared and went the extra mile to make me happy. She is the only reason this review is getting 2 stars. All the other people in that place need to go back to beauty school! read more

Do not go here! My husband had an appointment with Barbara for a haircut, and came out looking worse than he went in. Not only did she give him a bad cut (much shorter than he had asked for), she also accidentally shaved a bald spot into the back of his head. He didn't notice till he got home and I told him to look in the mirror - there was just a razor-sized chunk of hair missing in the back of his head. We were appalled that the stylist knowingly charged him for her mistake and let him walk out that way - there was no way she didn't notice. The only positive is that the salon fully refunded his money as soon as we showed them the back of my husband's head. They offered to fix it, but we declined, as his hair was already so short (and the bald spot so...bald) that they would have had to shave the back of his head entirely. No thank you. He will be going elsewhere to get it fixed once it grows out a bit. We will never give Downtown Salon our business again. read more
