Been coming to McDermott Motors for a couple of years now to do repairs, services and maintenance…read moreon my 2008 BMW X3. Jason, Sam and John have been attentative, responsive and reasonable throughout all my interactions with them. Most recently I've been dealing with some troublesome and complex dashboard light issues related to the brakes and CEL. Spent over a month of frustration addressing the reoccurring issues non-stop. They found the ultimate/worst case issue pretty early on but agreed that we should try and find work arounds to fix the problem before I drop over $1000 on replacing the rear axle and wheel sensor. In the end, we exhausted our options and I had to get the rear axle and wheel sensor replaced. After driving around with it all weekend, all issues seem to be resolved and the car seems to be reacting a lot more stable. I appreciate the fact that McDermott Motors were able to accommodate a lot of the reoccurring accumulating fees as a result of dealing with this expensive, frustrating and troublesome issue for the past month. Moral of the story, unless you love to spend money, perhaps consider a non-BMW for your next car.

I realize that the covid staffing may be an issue, but would have appreciated an honest answer. Obviously a sign of what to expect from this business. Go elsewhere.

Having read other great reviews, I decided to stop by and see what they had to say about my…read moreparents' car, which has lost its side skirt panel to a nice mountain beside our driveway over the winter. Being decently handy, I had an idea of how I might go about repairing it myself, but sought professional advice. The gentleman I talked to backed up what I had thought, and suggested I could do it myself, with the right parts. He pointed me in the right direction, and saved us $400, that we would have paid at the dealership. Excellent customer service, I'll definitely be returning if we need a mechanic to look at our car.

I would strongly caution motorists before trusting this shop with a major repair…read more In March 2024, I PAID MASTER MECHANIC TO REPLACE the flex/Y-pipe on my 2015 Infiniti QX60. Approximately 27 MONTHS LATER, I was advised that the same exhaust component needed to be replaced AGAIN. In my opinion, that is an unacceptable lifespan for a repair of this nature and raises serious questions about the quality of the part supplied, the installation, or the original repair. I retained the invoice and photographs and subsequently examined the components on the vehicle. Rather than reassuring me, what I found left me with MORE questions about exactly what was installed in 2024 and why I was facing the same repair again barely two years later. This is what concerns me most: customers generally cannot crawl underneath their vehicles and verify expensive repairs themselves. We PAY professional mechanics because we TRUST them to install the parts we paid for and perform the work competently. After this experience, that trust is gone. I brought my concerns directly to Frank, the Service Manager (Habib the owner refused to speak with me). Frank refused to answer any of my questions and did not provide an explanation. My advice to other motorists is simple: DOCUMENT EVERYTHING. KEEP YOUR INVOICES. PHOTOGRAPH THE PARTS. ASK TO SEE WHAT WAS REMOVED. GET A SECOND OPINION. I would NEVER entrust another vehicle to this location.

Amazing experience getting my tires mounted. They quoted $100 on the site and when I went to pay,…read morethey said it would be more, but I showed them The $100 and they honoured the price. It was also only about an hour. The even offered To pay for an uber home and back, which I declined. At first, I was disappointed with the shop years ago when I had visited it a few times in the past, mainly because they gave me estimates of many things that needed to be done, (which I agreed with) and while their prices are very competitive, they would not bring the price down if I went ahead with multiple repairs. (Let's say, AC plus spark plugs) - I felt if I was taking more Business to them, they should reward me by discounting some of the labour. That being said, one-off jobs are very good prices and they're so organized and nice. And despite the obscene quotes they've given me for work needed in the past, the quotes are still much better than other garages (on a per job basis) so it may just be that if I get work done here in the future, I'll just have to do one item at a time, because it seems there's no discount or reward for stacking multiple jobs in one session. Thanks for your great service. I look forward to returning.

On a second occasion I also rented a car with them on Turo for a trip. Easy communication, everything was smooth. Definitely recommend them if you don't already have a mechanic you trust.

The Flying Squirrel Motorcycle Shop (FSMS) is one of the few motorcycle shops in the GTA located…read morewithin the downtown area. Most are located in suburbia and are large, well-stocked with shiny motorcycles, parts and accessories. However you need a car or to ride your bike to get there and while there a lot of employees, there's usually a lack of customer service. The FSMS is situated on Carlaw Avenue, between Gerrard Street East and Dundas Street East. Easy to get to on the streetcar route or via subway with a quick transfer onto the 72 bus. The FSMS is located on the main/lower level of a large factory building, housing Green Tea Design, Moments Lounge, Toronto Newsgirls Boxing Club and other businesses. It's not a pretty place - it smells rather like motor oil and you feel like you wandered into a garage with various new and old motorcycles, a glass counter and shelving containing misc parts and accessories. Kind of like the parts counter at Canadian Tire, but Glenn, the owner-operator, is far more knowledgable, experienced and honest than that kid behind the counter. The shop is somewhat bare. He has the essentials like Motul oil, cleaning supplies, some locks, gloves, jackets and Shoei helmets. However, he can order almost everything for you from Arai to Givi to Nelson-Rigg to Puig, and at a pretty awesome discount. And even if you inquire via e-mail to which he is prompt to respond. The personal service is excellent - he spends the time to answer your questions and provides advice if you're looking to tackle some maintenance on your own. He tries to develop a relationship with his clients, and is not pushy at all. That is how I know his name and he knows mine. One time, I inquire about an item purportedly used to make a maintenance task quicker. He indicated that I could spend the money, but the task was not too difficult and the item in his opinion was not worth it. With that he lost an $75 sale, but gained the trust of a customer. Another time, I bought oil and filter from him to do my own oil change. I chatted with him a bit about it, and he lent me an oil filter wrench and gave me a washer for the drain plug. What more can you ask for? All in all, one of the best shops in the city I have visited so far.

Being a Clash fan and understanding that Joe Strummer has long passed away, headed to the Flying Squirrel. It is a unique space with a barbershop, motorcycle shop and a coffee house sharing the establishment. And I liked that there was plenty of free street parking. The latte was good...pretty standard latte. Unfortunately none of the characters were around during my short visit. It was a positive coffee experience and hope to run into some of the characters the next time I am in the area.
