I've been taking my car to Cam's for the past couple of years now. At first, I just went to get an oil change, but have kept going back since they've always been so nice and trustworthy. There was a couple of times I brought my car in thinking it had an issue, and he explained to me that there was no problem, and I wasn't charged anything for the inspection. SUMMARY: Told me $90, ended up paying $600. They presume stuff never agreed to. And they mocked me when I asked for a discount. I didn't have a good experience! I came at the end of the day for a check in my AC, which I thought it was leaking. They told me just the checking was $90. I was on my way out, when I remembered to ask if they were gonna call me before the end of the day. Then they told me that it was certain the car would spend the night there. They weren't gonna say anything, somehow they presumed it was obvious. The next day, I call after lunch time, and they hadn't even start anything yet. Again, just to check IF there were any leaks. 4:30PM I had to call them. They said they had just started. Just before they close, I came by. They didn't call me to say if it was done. The car was done. There were no leaks, but the tank was low. They charged me $179 for the service, and $300 to refill the gas tank, plus there was the inspection kit and taxes, I ended up paying $600. I didn't have the $90 written anywhere, so I had no argument. I asked for a discount, they scoff. I don't care paying for their service in full, service was done, and they did do work on my car. But close to $400 for products they didn't ask if I would approve, that sucked! read more

This place has no respect for their customer's time. They do not book an appointment and they ask you to drop in your car. When you get there 30 mins after they opened they tell you that they are not taking any more car for that day! Why cant you bother to book appointments to have this more organized? I called them last week and asked for tote change appointment. They said it's first come first serve. I specifically asked how I can make sure that I get the car in because once I get the car loaded with tires I cant drive around with it a lot. I was told that if I bring the car before noon they should be able to take it in. And yet they got full before 9 am. I live 10 steps from them and was a loyal customer but they lost me today! I've been to Cam's on two separate occasions now and both times have been a very positive experience. I went for an emissions test and this time around my muffler was broken and they have in both times been able to fit me in with short notice. Cam is really friendly and the guys are really efficient. I don't know anything about cars, and so I like how they give simple explanations to me and are straight-forward about what needs to be done and the price. read more

Beware. Caught RED HANDED!!! Have been going there for about 4 or 5 years for emission testing and that was all. Brought my car in for Safety and Emission testing Dec2016 and all well for emissions and all well with safety with the exception of control arms in the front. They said $650 to $700. I said that seems odd.... as just had the car in for wheel balance at the BMW dealer at BMW Toronto and had them inspect the front end and road test the car. Cam was taken a bit aback when I showed him the bill and the fact that this was only 2000Km's ago. Also, some time ago I had one of the control arms replaced and while not impossible very odd to have two go at the same time. So off to the BMW dealer of Toronto and walked in explained the situation.... in 20 minutes the car was up on the ramp and one of the head mechanics called me in and showed me not only my car but a I think a newer car next to mine also up on the ramp. He showed me that there was nothing wrong and that explained to me that if there indeed a problem I would know it and that all was indeed fine with the car. The mechanic gave report to service tech and he printed it up and then back to Cam's to present the BMW dealer with written findings and so I would have my safety report and off home I was headed for a beer as this was a long day. Well...Cam was not impressed. He said that stood behind his mechanic and not even a written report from BMW itself was good enough and wanted no more to do with me so said here is you $$ back for the safety and please go elsewhere. Would not discuss this would not listen. Could not get my $$ back to me soon or fast enough. I had spent the better part of the day on this and had set up the appointment from the previous week and did not feel that this was right. What a waste of time. It is my honest opinion that Cam and his mechanic were caught RED HANDED. I am sure that if I had not had the inspection from 2000K previous inspection from the BMW dealer they would have pressed me to have the unnecessary work done. Even B4 Cam made the report and his findings known to me or disclosed anything Cam was on the phone getting quotes on parts and readying his arguments for having this needless work done. When I presented the report from 2000KM's ago from the dealer it pretty well stopped him in his tracks. I have been going to this garage for many years for emissions testing only and I think that this time they saw someone come in with a BMW and they were smacking their lips and thinking .... well lets milk this sucker.... well don't be a sucker and go to someone reputable... as this garage much to my dismay as I have been going there many many times over the years... does not seem to be honest and the worst you could ever expect. Beware. They put the wrong oil in my car, which almost derailed my move to the west coast. I called ahead regarding an oil change. They said it would take a while, but come on in anyway. I got there about 20 minutes later and was told 'we're too swamped'. I explained that I had been told by one of their employees to bring my car in, so they obliged, which I appreciated. They finished the work, i paid and left on my journey. My car broke down just outside Tulsa. Diagnosis? Someone had put the wrong oil in my car. $300 repair, unfortunately I'm across the continent now and can't do much about it. They also overcharged me for a new battery. Beware of Cam's. read more

I don't know what's everybody raving about. I brought two cars there, one for catalytic converter (which they had to deal with twice more after it was changed) and it cost me a fortune, plus more time spent bringing the car back few times. And oxygen sensor ($450) for an old Toyota, after that my "check engine" light came back on, and when I brought the car back, I've been told that I know nothing about cars (which is true, I have to admit), and that it's a different problem. However, they were not able to answer my question what the problem is then and why haven't they dealt with it when a car was in their disposal. Definitely not coming back. P.S. The VW, which they "fixed" before - catalytic converter - had to go to the dealer few month's after they performed the last repair. And the new converter was installed. Cheaper and works just fine to this day. Give this place a big miss. read more

Honest helpful service. They thought I would need a part, then took apart the steering column and realized I didn't need that part. They reassembled the steering and the problem was fixed. Best part: no charge! I was floored. They could have sold me the unneeded part and labor for $800 and I wouldn't have known the difference. They made a new repeat customer that day. read more

Cam is the BEST! First of all, this place is pink. Wicked awesome. Cam, "The Boss", runs a tight ship here. Their website says they work on up to 50 cars a day, and if you ever go in, you'll see it's true - it's usually hard to even find a spot in their lot to park your sick car. They can usually fix anything within a day or two - the speed of service is fantastic, and the mechanics are all extremely friendly! I have moved to the opposite end of the city, but I refuse to take my car anywhere else! read more

After reading numerous positive reviews about Cam's, I decided to take my Acura TSX in for some minor repairs. It's great when a business lives up to the hype. So the free repair didn't last as long as I had hoped (not the mechanic's fault) so I had to take my car in to get it properly fixed. Going in it was just supposed to be a $300 fix to put in a new front exhaust pipe. After closer inspection the mechanic needed to put in a new oxygen sensor and catalytic converter also. This brought the total up to $750, but that's it, only $750. They didn't charge me for labour, only the cost of the parts and their markup. Good deal! read more

My brother referred me to Cam's after he had a series of problems with his lemon 2005 Nissan Sentra. They seemed to take good care of him, and he spoke highly of their integrity and willingness to fix problems economically and provide followup without additional charges when required. I needed someone to fix the brakes after they started grinding one day so I took my car (2004 Lexus GS) into Cam's. They had the parts on hand, and the entire brake job including rotors and pads on all four corners came in lower than I would have expected. I got the car back the next morning and it has been running well ever since. I take it in every 6 months for oil and a look-see. I'm always expecting to need a "Johnson Rod" or belt or some strange fix but they never seem to try to upsell any unnecessary repairs. It's nice to have a mechanic that I can trust, especially with a 10 year old car. read more

I have a strong distrust of mechanics based on my first few experiences of people telling me all the loads of work I needed done only to have a second opinion completely dismiss the first. On top of that, the first few places I used always went over quote by a significant amount. Luckily I eventually found a place who I could trust back in BC. Then, in 2010 I moved the Toronto and the stress of finding a new mechanic came on quick. I poked around online and the scarce feedback I could find pointed to Cam's/Thruway muffler. I needed a safety inspection and a drive clean test to get registered in Toronto - I went for it and they treated me well - kind, professional and gave my truck a once over at my request to see if there was anything I needed to take care of proactively. Report came back clean - no need to touch a thing. Fast forward over the past 6 years and I've been in for a few regular visits, the biggest being new brake, rotors and calipers just last fall. Every time I have been more than happy with the service and care. Recently Gary (my 4x4), has been leaking a bit of PS fluid, been given a recco to replace the ball joints, the tires are nearing their end of days, and a growing rattle coming from under the front end. Perhaps, I have been thinking, I should sell it at a cut throat price to someone capable of taking on the pretty simple repairs and fund my dream purchase of an XC70. To the shop I went today! I fully expected to hear about all the endless things that need replacing and fixing only to leave with a quote for two tires for under $400. The truck isn't perfect, by any stretch of the imagination, but a hose clamp on a loose heat shield, a dismissal of the need for ball joints, and an eye on the PS fluid is all I need. Cam is by far the kindest and most patient mechanic I have ever done business with. No BS, no ego, no bravado. Just a real honest guy. Same with Carsten, as well. read more

Cam has an in-depth knowledge of car repair and his shop does a wide-range of work, although only mufflers are in the shop's name ("Cam's Thruway Mufflers). There's no thruway and mufflers are just one of many things they repair. Thanks to COVID, the waiting room was closed off and never came back. Since the 504 and 503 streetcars stop at the corner, consider leaving while the work is done. They have enough business that Albert or Cam don't try to up-sell. Things are less busy than they were prior to COVID so it's easier to find a space to leave the car on the property when you arrive. I've had small and large things repaired successfully. The prices were fair and the work was well-executed. They don't do body work but they do rust-proofing (and they also do it for new car dealers who resell the work). I didn't think they did windshield replacement - but I asked - and Cam found a place that is high quality and inexpensive that went to Cam's and picked up the car and brought it back - the price was less than the insurance comprehensive deductible. I get the impression that Cam enjoys the work and atmosphere most days. The pink building is distinctive. read more

After reading Chris P's review - and - listening to my Nissan Pathfinder's ever louder "voice", I had to do something. Off to Thruway I went. No appointment, no calls, just drive up and pray. The guy, (d00d), behind the counter took my information, gave me a general idea of what it could cost and told me he'd call me before noon with an estimate, (around $450). Just for fun, I showed him Yelp on my iPhone and read him Chris P's review.... he said, "oh, the guy with the Honda". (Chris, now we know what you drive). What actually happened: The guy called me an hour after I dropped off the car and said that it was a simple problem, easy to fix and the only charge is for labour as no parts were used. I couldn't agree more with the other 5-star reviews. Just a great, honest auto business. I've never had to wait more than a few hours to get my car back and they've never tried to up-sell or otherwise squeeze me for a few extra dollars. I took my car in one Saturday morning to have 1) an oil change 2) a full service 3) my brakes inspected and 4) a malfunctioning blinker fixed. I was expecting a $500-$1,000 bill of "required" and/or "recommended" repairs and instead got a bill for around $50 and picked my car back up within 3 hours of dropping it off. I've been here 3 or 4 times and never had anything but great experiences. Cam's has absolutely earned my trust and my future business. read more

Traveling artist with a 1991 Toyota Corolla... you might say I'm tempting fate, but it's made it on three 15,000-mile tours of North America so far. Only thing is, when the occasional problems happen--and they do--it's always NOT in my home town, but somewhere where I don't know any mechanic, none of my acquaintances have cars, and I'm just happy that my AAA membership will cover a tow job. And who has time to shop around when my set pieces are in my car and my show is on Friday?! So I cross my fingers and come to yelp... Okay, I don't know what prices are actually standard for parts and labor, but I figure that people would be bitching here if Cam's was out of line. I wasn't prepared for the cost ($700 for dead distributor); that's just my Fringe-style budget. But the SPEED OF TURNAROUND, holy SHIT. Got it in at 10, quoted before noon, picked up at 6pm the same day. Super organized and friendly and WOW. Plus, my nickname is the same as the owner's name, so rock on with the Cams! Highly recommend Cam's. Fast service, nice guys. My old turd car Intrepid threw a temper tantrum on King Street one day and refused to budge. People thought it was probably an alternator problem. The guys at Cam's could have taken me for a ride, but they were straight up and told me it was just the battery and promptly replaced it. The car was ready less than a day later. Cam's has got to be one of the better mechanics in the city and their busy schedule proves it. My grandfather and uncle both used to swear by him and now so do I after having an excellent experience with a clutch install and inspection of a recently purchased car. Normally I'm pretty handy with this kind of thing, but anything above my realm of expertise (mainly engine/transmission) will now go to Cam's. The only downside is the wait times, which in comparison with similar shops aren't too bad. So I would suggest that you have some other type of transportation available for the average 2-3 day turnaround. read more

Estimate for complete rear brake job at Infiniti Dealership - $2,220 Cam's Original Estimate - $991 Wow. However, once Cam's mechanic had a look at my brakes, he recommended my calipers could be serviced, and would not need to be replaced. Final cost to have my brakes serviced at Cam's - $643. That's 29% of what the Dealership would have charged me. On top of that, they repaired my brakes the following day, the job was finished earlier than they had committed, and Mike was friendly and the communications were frequent and timely. Customer service is great! But they are definitely overpriced... I went in for an oil change and they charged me $90 for the synthetic oil change + Filter., they also apparently "checked all fluid levels and tire pressure." I also wanted to change a battery terminal that was creating a bad connection. They ended up charging me another $60 for an AVR Test and a new battery terminal piece which is small. Grand Total $175 I wish i could have gotten a deal like some others from what i have read here. I will come back another time and try to bargain on the price next time. read more

I don't know how people give this place anything but 5 stars. Went to Cam's for my second time today. The first time was for my muffler... It was done in under two hours and cost exactly what was quoted and was cheaper than any other place quoted. Today was my second visit. I got stuck in a snow bank and somehow knocked something loose under my car. The rattling sound was unbearable. Brought it in, was fixed in 30 minutes and NO charge. I am so thankful I found a place in Toronto that can work on my car and leave me feeling great afterwards about it. People of yelp, there is a reason why this place has such high reviews. I highly recommend this place. Had to replace my car window since it got smashed earlier. Was greeted by Carsten, nice and awesome guy. Only took them one day to get my problem fixed with an acceptable fee. I was wondering whether I should give a 4 star or a 5 only because I think, probably in my case, that they did a sloppy job cleaning my car. Not trying to be a whining pain in the ass but I had to do some extra work to get the shattered glass out of my car. Overall, they are professional, fast and with nice attitude. I had read the reviews of this place a while ago, so when what appeared to be smoke started billowing from under my hood this morning, it was the first place that occurred to me. I walked in at around 8:15am, expecting to be told that they were backed up and that they'd try to fit me in. Instead, I was told that the car would be looked at within 45 minutes. 40 minutes later, I received a call telling me that I needed a new rad and hoses and that my car would be ready shortly after lunch. Shortly after lunch, I received a call saying that my car was ready. When I picked up the car, not only was I told that the parts and labour would be under warranty for one year, but I was also told that the total was a bit less that what I had been quoted. Prompt, friendly, reliable, honest, service...all within walking distance of my office and most importantly - at a reasonable price. What more could you ask for? They have done an ok job on my car the past few years, they will do exactly what you ask and no more, so if you think your car ha had a general inspection it hasn't, only what you asked for (which is fine, just know what to ask for). However last time i brought my car in they left the oil cap off and there was oil spilling everywhere and burning, and the time before that they left a light on inside the car and i didn't notice because it was daytime and the battery subsequently died. I brought my car in to request a quote. My vehicle is old and I know it requires work. I had explained that I was going to get rid of it in a few months as I am in the process of relocating. Without lifting up my vehicle he gave me a quote over 1k - Cam quoted me for a new catalytic converter, resonator and pipe. I had a bad feeling so decided to drive to another shop to get a second opinion. I saved over $800 and all I needed to get was a new pipe. Yes, there was a crack, but not in the converter itself, only where the pipe attaches to it. Ladies and gents, do yourselves a favour and get at least another opinion before going back to Cam. read more

Met Cam for the first time when I had a slow leak in one tire. Took the car in on a Saturday morning and was back on the road, with the tire patched up, in under an hour. You'd be hard-pressed to find that level of service in the downtown core. He's a straight shooter and I would return for other vehicle maintenance. read more

So I have been to Cams for about two years. I have an 06 Audi, so I sort of expected the repair costs would be higher. Boy am I right. But they do an average job, and usually can return your car back in a day, so I was okay with that. Despite that I had to go back and fix my lights they changed for a total of three times, and the skyrocketing price the late repairs I had, nothing major. It all came down two weeks ago, when I went to get a quote on air conditioning repairs, oil change, and (OF COURSE), change my lights again. (HOORAYY they didn't charge me this time, I had to thank him.) They charged me some $90 dollars just for the test of air conditioning, which I know some place only charges around $60. Its mandatory, I get it, as they say so. Later on, I got a quote for $1,200 to fix the air conditioning, which includes a condenser ($289), a hose ($378), freon top up ($30), labor ($220+$95), c/c for check up ($250). The final price? $1,200!!! And what did you think? OF COURSE NOT, I can live this summer heat without cool air blowing out, right? Right after I picked up my car around 5:30 pm, I went straight home. And right after I parked my car, I noticed a REALLY FRESH SCRATCH on my car, right besides the front number plate. I am thinking, okay, maybe they got sloppy, maybe there was too many cars so they played a little cheesy Klotski. But I was not happy, since the scratch is pretty visible, its almost 10 cm long, vertically scratched from turning away of a gravel wall. I swear they have that wall in their parking lot. So I went back the next morning. Cam he did not know what happened. Since it was so fresh, Cam could not deny it at that time. He sent me to a bodyshop a few blocks away, and the guy over there check it up for me. Then they talked on the phone, guy said he could do a blend on it, costs $30 or less. And of course, I overheard this. (Like they would put me on a speaker and chat with them.) That's fine, Cam said he would call me tomorrow so we could arrange something. I thought okay. I got busy the next week, did not have a chance to go back, while I waited for that call Cam was supposed to give me. No rings. Then something happened with my car, the last Friday. I could feel the pause when I changed my gear, and when I put the car in reverse, it stopped. The engine shut off, and the infamous engine light turned on. Luckily I was in my parking lot, although the car was not parked straight, I left it there. Opened up the hood, I saw a SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF ENGINE OIL SPILLING OUT FROM THE OIL CAP. Its not liquid form, so I know they overtopped it, or they spilled it somehow when they did the oil change. I took a picture, then looked around to see if anything else seems wrong. ANOTHER OIL SPOT on the side of the engine. I thought okay, I am going back so they have to fix this. I ended up going back this morning, about two weeks after they did the check up and oil change. I had a few words with Cam, about the oil spills, the engine light, and the scratch. What was I dreaming after two weeks? OF COURSE he denied that the scratch happened at Cam's, OF COURSE he is not going to repair it for me. OF COURSE he gave me an answer that made me write this first review on Yelp. And what is my response? THEY SCRATCH YOUR CAR. And about the oil spill? Cam said, "things can happen right, my guys spill a little oil here and there, I mean, its not perfect, but I guarantee you it has nothing to do with your engine light. I can have my guys wipe that off for you." Um... what? You wanna wipe off the evidence that you spilled this so you can deny it again like you did with the scratch? No thanks. Cam, "Do you wanna move your car out of the way to that parking spot, so I can take a look at your engine light afterwards?" NO. Things ended here. I am not going back. I particularly do not like how Cam responded this morning. He was a cool guy, but for a $30 cosmetic touch up for the scratch HE DID, ON HIS PARKING LOT, he turned me away. I don't care about attitudes and stuff, those are all strategies. The fact is the fact. I am not going to get any repairs done at Cam's. No more. As for the engine light and oil spill? I am going somewhere else and see what they say about this. If the spill caused the engine to shut off, guess who is responsible for this? Goodbye Cam. read more
