There's no seating inside, there are some tables, rockin' chairs and benches outside if you want to sit and eat. From the kitchen I ordered a ham, egg & cheese biscuit and got a little container of their banana puddin'. The biscuit was great, the nanner puddin' was ok, I also got a couple of their no bake chocolate oatmeal cookies for the road which were awesome, they call them "Preachers Cookies" here, I always knew them as "Cow Patties"... really neat place.

It was a Saturday when I swung through, so all of the tourists from the Blue Ridge Parkway were stopping by for their tourist shopping fix. So I don't blame the chaos on the store so much as the tourists acting all rude and entitled, shoving their way around the store. I digress. The deli sandwich I had was very good, and made promptly. I also had a homemade brownie which had the perfect amount of sweetness and walnut ratio to it. I wanted to try the Possum Pie but just get the nerve up to ask what was in it. I mean it couldn't have been real possum could it? They do have limited outside tables. I was lucky enough to snag one but you may want to pick your food up here and then plan for a nice picnic on one of the parkways scenic pullouts.

The market is fully covered, providing some much needed shade, and there are some permanent vendors that have an indoor facility such as an ice cream parlor, candy and fudge, general store, etc. There are full bathroom facilities on site, and even a restaurant called the Moose Cafe at the back which served southern favorites. Of course, what is offered depends on the season. You'll find a bounty of selections starting in late spring, through the summer, and into the fall. In the winter, produce starts to become more sparse, but there is no shortage of places to buy your Christmas tree if you celebrate with one of those. Best advice is to bring cash, but many vendors can take a card these days. You may get charged a little extra for using plastic in some spots though, and to help with these folks margins, cash is preferable.

Cash's has been open just over four months and by the looks of things already has a regular following. Prices are fair just four dollars for a small basket of peaches (9 of them). Looking at the peaches on the counter later in the evening had to wash and try one. Wow, first bite in was glad I was standing over the kitchen sink so much flavor and so juicy. Melons were two for five. People were snapping them up as quick as they could put them out. Staff is friendly and even knows the state the prduce comes from. Next time I'm in Hickory will definitely be stopping in. I may even go out of my way for those tomatos? If your in the area Cash's is worth a look.

I lived in Boone for 3…read moreyears, just moved 5 hours away 3 weeks ago, and am already back this weekend, with a major motivator being wanting to come to this Watauga Co. farmers market for the nice people, beautiful cool weather, amazing vendors selling crafts and fresh, local, organic foods, and the overall vibe. If you're ever in town on a Saturday, make sure you come. The earlier, the better, too. I think the market is open until 11 or 12, but if you want first pick of vegetables, artwork, and flowers, the earlier the better. Like 9am kind of early. No worries, you can make your first stop the coffee station or a food truck for breakfast -- my favorite being the breakfast pizza at AMB's Farm to Flame truck, which is ALWAYS here every Saturday rain or shine.
