The upper management guy (Steven) seems to talk about personal information out loud and un professional so that all customers can hear! And he does not need the position he holds! This truck stop is near the North Carolina - Virginia state line. It's not horrible but could definitely use some renovations. The restrooms and showers are old looking and outdated. Other than that, the Brintle's Homestyle Restaurant located inside is very good! The food was hot and delicious. read more

I can't speak for the restaurant, but the rest of the truck stop is pretty outdated and dirty. Bathrooms seem like something you'd find at a small gas station (dirty, outdated, smelly, small), not at a truck stop/travel center. Their shop is pretty eclectic and seems to have literally everything: pocket knives, souvenirs, spam, condoms, etc-everything you need for a good time! However, I'd sacrifice the spam and condoms for cleaner bathrooms and go instead to the circle K across the street. read more

Not all employees were wearing masks and we had to walk past an unmasked employee and two unmasked customers in an entrance corridor that was less than 6 feet wide. Several customers were wearing masks including us and I was grateful for those conscientious fellow humans. It smelled relatively clean when we walked in. The restrooms are way at the back of the store. I caught a quick glimpse of the men's restroom which looked sloppy and there was a wet towel on the floor. I confirmed with my husband when he came out that there was indeed a wet towel on the floor. The ladies restroom was ok. Not completely touch free since the soap dispenser is a pump but there are those turbo air dryers that I despise since they are super loud and spray water everywhere before getting to the drying part. The door pushes outward so you could back out but that still seems yucky during a raging pandemic. No paper towels to touch the door. I carry a Clorox wipe with me everywhere I go now. read more

We stumbled across this truck stop on our way to see my son in college. We picked up food from the hot bar that was pretty darn good, much better than we expected. I also got a bowl of the chili they had in the kettles, WOW! It was delicious-I need the recipe. The place was very clean, smelled good and the staff was helpful. I've been coming to Brittle's since 2009 infrequently. I love the beautiful Mt Airy scenery and clear air. The truck stop is always clean and the worker's are so nice. The trucker showers are clean and function good. All these years and I e just tried the fried chicken dinner. A great price. The chicken is perfect! Nice n meaty and juicy and perfectly cooked. The skin is thin and crispy and seasoned so delicious. I try a lot of fried chicken and this is tops. I had okra and fried potatoes. I usually get a BBQ sammich or the chicken n dumplings. Everything is good. Breakfast is fresh n hot n real. Thanks for a great meal.! Last year I happened in on Thanksgiving and they had special Turkey plates with all the good sides too! read more

I have mixed feelings about Brintle's Truck Stop, nestled right between I-77 and I-74 in Mount Airy, NC. On one hand, it's a locally owned establishment, and that's always a good thing. I have reservations about their restaurant though. It has a decent size parking lot with parking all over the place. They also have a scale (not a CAT scale), a truck wash and a repair shop. They also have showers for like $5 or something really cheap and while they're not the biggest shower rooms out here, they're not bad. The staff, at least towards me, have always been super nice and that's always a big plus. They have a TV room, games, internet and WiFi, laundry, convenience store... Wait let me digress for a moment. Apparently some people like to think of a magazine rack as a library and have taken to reading the magazines without paying for them. To counter this, Brintle's has taken the extra effort to saran wrap EVERY MAGAZINE THEY SELL so you can't open it first. They also have adult magazines, because, you know, some people are into that. (they're saran wrapped, too) Their convenience store is pretty decent, they sell all kinds of stuff from the basic snack food items to your usual truck and auto repair convenience items to cowboy boots and belt buckles and knives...knives?..yes knives. Oh and a chocolate eclair pudding that was to die for. It was yummy, it wasn't that expensive, my only complaint was that there was too much of it. I would have been just as happy with a container half the size. Food for thought, Brintle's, half size containers of your puddings, please. read more

As a truck driver I used to always come here to eat at the restaurant. Well then they decided to affiliate themselves with those Pilot idiots. Strike 1. Just like Pilot likes to do they shutdown the drivers TV lounge. Strike 2. OK so now the only reason to hang out here is to eat at the restaurant. Oh but hold on. During the heyday of the pandemic the state of NC had take out only rule. So I had been to a couple other truckstop restaurants in the state understanding it had to be take out. So then the next day I was driving thru this area and decided to stop in for breakfast. There was a sign at the entrance to the hallway stating that the state of NC has shutdown all restaurants in the state. Strike 3. So I drove on up to the Lancer in Virginia on I81 for breakfast. So since this place is gonn lie to their customers and this place is now friggin Pilot I will just keep driving on by on my way to the Lancer. read more

Service starts off slow getting waited on but they do a better job making sure you have everything later. I got the rainbow trout grilled, steak fries, green beans and hush puppies. The trout was blackened and cooked well but lacked some personal flavor, it was kinda bland. Fries where perfect, green beans out of a can and cooked with no seasoning. Hushpuppies were pretty good just not much of a fan of them. Over all decent experience cost me $15 dollars, could be much better though. read more

We ate at the little diner inside. It's awkward to get to from the trucker side. Got there and it was dead! The place is a little dirty and outdated. We almost left cause we wanted the salad bar and there wasn't much lettuce left. We decided to stay. Asked if they could make a BLT, it wasn't on the menu and added a fried egg. All-in-all, the salad was good and so was the sandwich, and extra fried onions rings very good. We asked why they were so dead. Cause for truck stop food it was good. They thought maybe because they quit doing the buffet. It's too bad. What we had was good. With some cleaning up, updating and making it easier for truckers the food was good. Maybe it's also because there's s restaurant across the street that serves homemade style food? Haven't been there, but if I owned the restaurant inside the truck stop I'd be doing everything I could to make my place better eating than there's. The waitresses were nice and accommodating, but won't have jobs long with no customers. read more

Has a lot of parking, rude customer service, smell of bleach in the showers over powers the shower experience. They ask for ur cdl just to even get a shower. Very run down and old type feeling you can tell its personal owned. Had a lot of game and quarter machines but they are older. The travel store is so old it has old tvs colir tv for $25. I'm giving this place three stars for the selection of home cooked food and bakery items. They have cookies, fudge, and brownies, as well as some yummy looking fried foods near the registers. I didn't really check out the restaurant, but it smelled decent. However, the prices are ridiculous, even worse than a real Flying J. They wanted $1.69 for one brownie, and my husband got a 32 ounce fountain drink for $1.89 plus tax! Come on now, Flying J charges $1.79 for the 56 ounce Super Tanker! With the money made off of food and whatnot, I know there is no reason to charge that much for a fountain soda. For being part mom and pop truck stop, this place is low on the totem pole. read more

We were on our way to Mt Airy last Sunday morning and husband needed his morning coffee and we needed breakfast so we stopped at Brintle's right outside t Airy on Rt 89. Very clean place and friendly waitress and Breakfast bar was very good and he got biscuit an gravy and home fries with onions. Restrooms were clean.And found lots of good souvenirs at the store part. All I wanted was a damn neck pillow and was certain a truck stop would have one. Nope. Sanitary rating is a B as well.
