I have to say... the standout of the night was the TJ's Forbidden Flame…read more It's one of those drinks that hits you in layers--smooth, a little bold, just the right amount of tropical without being overly sweet. You take one sip and immediately get it. By the second, you're already planning to order another. There's something about it that feels intentional... like it wasn't just made, it was crafted. Balanced, elevated, and honestly unforgettable. If you go, this is the drink. No question. It's not just good--it's the one you'll be talking about after you leave. Thank You Bootlegger Tiki the number one spot to go and

We came here two nights in a row to celebrate my husband's 40th birthday, and I'm honestly torn…read morebecause we had two completely different experiences. **Night one** was great. The drinks were strong and well-made, and even though the place was packed, our waitress stayed attentive and checked in with us consistently. It's clear they specialize in more elaborate cocktails, so a bit of a wait is understandable. The ambiance is also a highlight--dark, intimate, and really leans into the tiki vibe. **Night two** was the complete opposite. We accidentally mixed up our reservation time, but since the place was nearly empty, we were seated right away, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, everything went downhill from there. We had a different waitress, and despite being one of only a few parties there when we arrived, we waited **45 minutes** without seeing our drinks--while other groups seated after us were already being served (and even getting second rounds). We eventually had to flag down our waitress, who had hardly checked on us at all. When we asked about the delay, she said they were "very busy,". After mentioning how long we'd been waiting, there wasn't any real apology--just visible annoyance. She told us our drinks were "up next," but after another 20 minutes passed with nothing, we decided to leave after over an hour of waiting. It was disappointing, especially after such a positive first experience. A simple apology or some communication would have gone a long way. Sadly, the inconsistency makes it hard to know which version of this place you're going to get.

We have some friends who live in a very nice neighborhood in San Bernardino not far from Wooden…read moreNickel. Every time we visit we drive past it. It looks like a typical dive bar. It gives off a biker bar vibe just by the looks of it. On one visit I asked my buddy if he had ever been to Wooden Nickel. He admitted that he was a bit intimidated by its appearance. I told him, "Well we're going today"! Off we went. My buddy, my wife Becky and me. We headed down the hill. It was about a 10-minute walk to the primitive parking lot. There was a Ford F150 pick-up truck out front with a huge smoker trailer behind it billowing smoke. The air was filled with the wonderful aroma of smoking meats. We walked inside and it was pretty much what we were expecting. Low ceiling, dimly lit, bar seating, a few tables and a couple of pool tables. We bellied up to the bar and were warmly greeted by the bartender. We ordered our drinks, and I noticed a menu on the table. On this day it was smoked meat. Burgers, ribs, tri-tip, chicken - all cooked right out front. When we saw the pit boss emerge from the behind the kitchen door, we were sad that we already had dinner plans. He was a big 'ol dude wearing a BBQ-stained white apron. We just knew that there was legit food exiting that kitchen. Never judge a book by its cover. Wooden Nickel was great. Friendly folks, cool bartender, smoked meat, cold drinks, cheap prices. There's really not much more to ask for. Wooden Nickel. What a joint!

I figured my best bet was to check local bars so this was my first stop. Unfortunately, fireside lounge didn't have my heart attack in a basket, HOWEVER...that didn't matter Once I took a look at all their other tasty options. Fireside's welcoming, DTE and completely versatile in its patrons. Great music ( early 2000s hiphop ) the night I went made everyone happy. I ended up going for the food, then staying for the atmosphere and people who were there. Pool tables all booked with intensity and admiration...the bar was full and conversation was effortless. Almost a hidden gem in a very industrial area of Palm Springs... So glad we have you Fireside (:

The collards were a little too sweet for my liking. The potato salad was excellent, as was the brisket. The Bartender, Debby, was very friendly. What I don't understand is how smoky it was in there. It was like going to a mid-century speakeasy. The smoke just clings to you like bad cologne. Prices were reasonable, pours were generous to say the least. But the smoke is just intolerable. I don't know how the staff puts up with it. If they could do something about the ventilation, I might come back. I just really didn't need a reminder of how horrible the smoke used to be in California bars, when you'd go home and need a Sharon Silkwood shower to get the stench off you.

Okay, being totally honest, this wasn't the absolute best food of our entire Joshua Tree-Palm…read moreSprings trip, but a close 2nd. BUT it was definitely the biggest, most positive surprise when it came to expectations vs. actual quality! We landed in Palm Springs late in the evening and were starving on our way out to Joshua Tree. After a quick Yelp search for something open past 7-8pm, this spot popped up. We pulled into a super quiet parking lot and found this tiny little place. Looking at it from the outside, we honestly figured it would just be a quick, forgettable pitstop. Boy, were we wrong. For starters, the place was relatively full for a Tuesday evening! We ordered the duck confit nachos, the kimchi bulgogi sandwich, and the pony wings. Wow! Granted, our expectations were unfairly low walking in, but this turned out to be probably our second-best meal of the entire week--and we ate out every single day! It absolutely crushed it in terms of exceeding expectations. It also helped that we happened to be there on a Wednesday, so all the wines were half-priced! Unfortunately, since we weren't familiar with the area, we didn't know exactly how much further we had to drive to our accommodations, so we couldn't imbibe more in such a welcoming environment. (Missed opportunity, but safety first!) Oh, and definitely save room for dessert--their pie with ice cream of the day was delicious too! If you are passing through, do not sleep on this place. I would definitely come back the next time I'm in the area!

Proper smash burger with crispy edges and a juicy center. The patties had great flavor and didn't need anything extra.
