They promised me my deposit back. The deposit is in the THOUSANDS. I received it a few days later and THEY TOOK IT BACK AGAIN SAME DAY! The customer service here was terrible. When first approached, attitude was already off. When received first and only offer, tried to get the details of what it was composed of, was rudely told that it was the only deal they could do. When attempting to get further clarity on other prices, was told "this is america" by salesman named Hamza. Hamza was kept interrupting when we were asking questions about included fees and asking multiple times if we knew what a drive off fee in a rude tone as if we didn't understand english. I visited Downey Hyundai specifically to purchase a new Palisade Calligraphy. The test drive went well, and I found the exact exterior and interior color combination I wanted on their lot. That's where the positive experience ended. When we got to pricing, I received the classic "let me talk to my manager" routine. The salesman returned with what he called "great news": they would sell me the vehicle for $5,000 over MSRP, plus financing at 1.25 points above Hyundai's advertised rate. They never even ran my credit to justify this inflated interest rate. When I asked for an explanation, the best they could offer was that the color combination was "in high demand" (which apparently justified the markup) and that their interest rate was "a great rate" (it absolutely was not). No real answers, just sales tactics. I left and drove to Southbay Hyundai in Torrance. They found me the identical vehicle in the colors I wanted, treated me with respect, and earned my business with straightforward, honest pricing. In my opinion,this is a dirty dealership. Don't ever come here. My experience was they tried to tell me my engine needed to be replaced and got my vehicle warranty branded in the process. They also tried to sell me a new engine when my car only needed a new sensor. Also, during the process of all of this happening, I found out that they forged my signature and ordered a part off of my warranty for a service that I didn't get. I have the proof. Back in 6/2021 when I made the minsinformed choice of going to them to get my AC fixed, they kept my car for almost a month and gave it back to me with no gas and 200 extra miles on my car. They tried to say it was because they had to run my ac. I had to contact Hyundai on Twitter to get movement on my car. Then they ordered another compressor a year later, and forged my signature on the service order when I never went back to them for an ac or service after I got my car back the first time. At the time, I wasnt aware of this. I only found out because I was forced to return to them in 12/2024, because they are the closest to my house and my check engine light was flashing and I thought it wasn't drivable. Right away the tech told me because of the code( that I got from the diagnostic device at auto zone) that it was going to need a new engine, without even checking my car. Aftter my car had been there over the Christmas holiday,Downey Hyundai tells me that corporate refused to replace my engine because of missing oil change records that I didnt get even have a chance to get because it was Christmas and I wasnt made aware until after the fact. I took my car to 2 other dealerships because I had a gut feeling that Downey Hyundai was being deceptive. Both dealerships ran a requured bearings check on my engine and confirmed my car only needed a sensor. In the process of Downey Hyndai trying to get an engine I didnt need, corporate branded my warranty because I didnt really need an engine. Even though Hyundai was sued for these exact problems relating to their engines. Now, if there is an issue that should be covered by my warranty, I have to pay out of pocket because my vehicle has been branded, even though though there were manufacturing issue with these cars. I will never buy a Hyundai car again and I dont recommend using Downey Hyundai ever. Go to Norm Reeves in Cerritos or Garden Grove Hyundai. They were excellent in assisting me with my car. Also,in my opinion, if you've ever had service with Downey Hyundai and your vehicle is under warranty, make sure you get a copy of all of your service records to make sure they're legit. read more

Update: My experience with Downey Hyundai has only gotten worse. After my previous service visit, I received a recall notice from them saying I still had an open recall that they had supposedly fixed. When I called, I learned my car had failed the service inspection, something no one had mentioned to me when I dropped it off. They told me the part had been received and asked if I wanted to make another appointment. Seriously after they messed up my car the first time, failed to complete the recall, and didn't tell me it failed the inspection, they wanted me to come back and trust them again? Over two days, I had to go back and forth at least 4-5 times, getting completely different answers each time "it'll be done in 10 minutes" to "it'll be ready by the end of the day." When I finally went to pick up my car, it was messed up again. While waiting for someone to speak with me, I was ignored, and the service manager, Ben, just stood silently on the sidelines, refusing to communicate. After all of this, I will never take my car to this dealership again. I'd rather drive farther than risk dealing with these scammers. read more

My experience with Hyundai Dunway was extremely disappointing. I came in to lease a brand-new car and ended up spending almost the entire day at the dealership. The process kept getting delayed, and by the time everything was finished it was already dark outside. After signing the paperwork, the car was brought out in the evening. While the sales manager, Pamela, was distracting me with conversation, another employee was installing the temporary plates. Because it was dark and I trusted the dealership, I didn't realize anything was wrong. The next morning, in daylight, I discovered damage on the rear bumper and noticed the license plate lights were missing, which made the car illegal to drive at night. When I contacted the dealership, they did not deny that the damage had already been there and offered to repair it for free. However, I had come to lease a brand-new car, not a damaged one. The very next day I asked to cancel the deal. Instead of resolving the situation, I was pressured and told that since I had already signed the paperwork, canceling the deal would result in serious penalties and could damage my credit. I was essentially made to feel like I had no choice but to keep the car and accept their repair. The situation dragged on for about a month. During that time I was already paying for the lease but could barely use the car. From the moment I discovered the problem until the car was finally taken to the body shop, I had to drive to the dealership five separate times trying to resolve the issue. In addition, I made a confirmation call at 8:12 AM this morning to verify whether the vehicle was available and ready before visiting the dealership. Based on these communications, we were instructed to come in. However, upon arriving at the dealership at 10:05 AM, the assigned sales representative, Andrea Rodriguez, was not present. After waiting, around 10:15 AM, an assistant informed us that the vehicle we came to see -- a 2023 Chevrolet Express Cargo 2500 RWD -- could not be sold due to a transmission issue. This information should have been confirmed and disclosed before asking us to make the trip. Checking the condition of the vehicle and confirming whether it is sellable is the most basic responsibility of a dealership. Failing to do so, despite extensive communication and a same-day confirmation call, shows a serious lack of internal coordination and professionalism. Additionally, contacting a customer at 8:12 AM for confirmation is inappropriate. Any confirmation should be made after at least 9:00 AM via call or text to ensure proper acknowledgment. Because of this poor communication and lack of verification, we spent a significant amount of time traveling in the LA area unnecessarily. This entire situation could have been easily avoided with proper vehicle inspection, accurate information, and respectful communication. Instead, our time and effort were completely disregarded. Kenny, our salesperson, was very helpful from the moment we arrived, and his manager worked with us to get the deal we were looking for. This was the third Hyundai dealership we visited, and needless to say, we finally found and purchased the car we loved. We've been enjoying our new ride ever since! However, I'm disappointed in how a post-purchase issue has been handled. The car I bought was pre-owned and already had tinted windows. A warning sticker placed directly on the window by the dealership got caught when the window was rolled down and tore the tint. I called as soon as it happened (9/4) to ask how it could be resolved, since the sticker was put on by the dealership. After multiple follow-ups and a visit to the dealership yesterday (9/16), I was told the only option was for me to pay for the repair because I "bought the car that way." This has been frustrating because: * The damage was caused by a sticker applied by the dealership, not normal wear and tear. * I was initially quoted for all four windows, then later told only one window at full price with no discount. * Communication was poor; I had to repeat the same information several times over nearly two weeks to get a clear answer to the same individual. For a dealership with such great sales service, I expected the after-sales support to reflect the same standard. I bought a Mazda CX-5 from this Hyundai dealership in Downey on February 16, 2026, and put $10,000 down. The very next day, I brought it back because it was making noise when I pressed the brakes. I was told repairs were made, including the brake pads and rotors, but the problems continued. Soon after, the accelerator was also making noise. I took the car to Mazda and was told the dealership had only lubricated the vehicle. I also had an independent mechanic look at it, and was told nothing had actually been replaced. After multiple calls, broken promises of callbacks, and no real help from management, I ended up paying out of pocket at Mazda for repairs. The dealership refused to reimburse me. Very disappointing experience. I tried to address the issues immediately after purchase, but got the runaround instead of a real resolution. I love the car, so far no problems there. The sale went fine (or so I thought). I liked the salesman, got a great deal, and decided to use Hyundai financing. About two weeks later I got a letter in the mail saying I needed to return the car due to the dealership not being able to find a financial institute to take on the loan. I have credit in the 800's, make six figures, and have zero other loans, but they couldn't find a financial institution to take on my $30K loan?! Of course I reached out to my sales rep and he said don't worry about the letter, they found an institution. My lawyer advised me to get that in official writing since the letter I received was official writing and a text message from my rep wouldn't protect me from my car being taken. My sales rep promised I would get it but I never did. I guess this is a thing, in the contract you sign there is a clause that says the dealership has 10 days to take back the car for whatever reason. But the letter was postmarked after the 10 days. So I have a lawyer on hand and my documentation ready in case they do repo my car. So I do recommend Hyundai in general but not Downey Hyundai - unless you want to possibly hire a lawyer and be in constant fear of your car being repoed. read more

There was a tracking device most likely left by previous owner of vehicle it was duct taped to the back in a very sneaky way. My wife and daughters could potentially be in danger because the previous owner has been tracking us for the last few days since we bought the vehicle from Hyundai Downey. Apparently they don't think it's of any concern that their inspection of the vehicle left a tracking device that was working and my phone kept notifying me that someone was tracking me whenever I drove anywhere. I brought this up to Ali the sales guy that sold it to me and he said "it's been three days, this should have been noticed immediately. Nothing we can do to remedy the situation, it's on you that it wasn't found for days." This is really wild. After doing months of extensive research, he found his perfect selection at Downey. His first experience with the dealership was letting them know he was on his way to pick up the vehicle, Downey calling him while he was on his way (about a 40 min. drive from our home) to make sure he was still coming, then arriving to find the dealership had just sold the car to someone else. Because they had the largest selection of the cars my son was seeking, he gave them another chance. Our purchase experience was okay, though there was a lot of haggling. Props to Jasmine, who was nice throughout the process. But the worst experience came after. The fuel gauge reader stopped working. This was initially scary on a 2024 model with almost no miles on it, as my son is filling the tank and the gauge isn't moving. This was weeks after purchasing, so the car was under warranty. We were assigned Jordan as our provider. And we heard nothing. And nothing. And nothing. I spoke with his manager- still no new information. Both my son and I followed up again and again. We were finally told the part was on backorder and they didn't know how long it would be. When we finally got a date of arrival, that date came and went. Eight days after that date, I get a txt from Jordan that the car would be ready by that Thursday. One month. I have never waited for more than a few days for any repair, let alone had such a lack of communication or professionalism. Come on, Downey Hyundai- not cool. read more

I had a very frustrating experience at this dealership. Before coming in, I spoke with staff over the phone and was told a few different things about financing, including the possibility of combining the remaining balance on my current car loan with a new purchase and interest rates somewhere between 0 to 4 percent. I was also told they would buy my current car, which had recently been recovered after being stolen and is in rough shape. I understood it might not be worth much, but I expected at least a small amount for parts or scrap. When I arrived, Kenny was the salesperson helping me and he was professional and respectful throughout the process. He seemed to genuinely try to help and repeatedly checked with his managers to see what they could do. Unfortunately the experience changed once one of the managers stepped in. His approach felt very aggressive and focused on pressure rather than transparency. Several times when I began getting up to leave he suddenly had a new offer to try to keep me there. At one point after I gave him a number I was comfortable with he said "now we are talking business," which made it feel like the earlier numbers were not being presented honestly. That comment alone made me lose a lot of trust in the process. I was prepared to put about $2,000 down and was willing to accept monthly payments in the $400 to $500 range. However they repeatedly tried to push me into a Kia Soul even after I clearly said I was not interested in that vehicle. I explained that friends and family members who owned that model had not had great experiences and that reliability was very important to me. I need something that will last and not constantly give me problems. Later in the process Kenny and another manager tried to find another option and mentioned a Mazda. They then told me their lender declined the loan because the vehicle had around 79,000 miles. I asked if they could provide some type of summary or verification showing that the loan was declined since I have had experiences in the past where dealerships were not fully transparent. They said they could not show anything because it was on the computer and contained sensitive information. I understand privacy concerns but they could have printed some type of summary. The situation felt unclear. Another example that did not make sense was when they said I would need $5,000 down to make the cheaper car work even though I had already explained that I only had $2,000 available. I even pointed out that if I had $5,000 I could simply pay off the remaining balance on my Hyundai Sonata and avoid the issue entirely. The aggressive manager also said that whoever gave me the information over the phone about combining the loans and the lower interest rates would be fired. He also implied he was the main manager but later I learned he was just one of the managers. Toward the end Kenny and another manager tried to smooth things over and were more respectful, but by that point the trust had already been broken. I told them that the earlier interaction left a bad impression and that I would be taking my business elsewhere. In the end I left the dealership without a car and very unsatisfied with the experience. I will probably just take my current vehicle to Pick N Pull and get a couple hundred dollars for it instead of dealing with this situation. The dealership promotes itself as being number one but unfortunately the experience felt like the typical high pressure car sales tactics people try to avoid. Even the initial greeting when I first arrived did not feel very welcoming. It felt more like "what do you need" rather than a friendly introduction. Kenny was professional and did what he could, but overall the experience was disappointing and I would not recommend this dealership based on how this situation was handled. read more

I asked if my car would get fixed, and I'll take a loaner. They "didn't " have a loaner but offered me a rental. First of all, I don't understand why the customer has to pay for an error Hyundai created. Then, I asked to reschedule my appointment, and without asking for my name, I was given one. I asked the guy if he knew my name, but he didn't even ask. I train people to be respectful and to provide the same attention and care to every person who walks into our business. Be careful who you try to fool; the joke will be on you. Whether the mechanics were busy or not, you don't play me stupid, asking your peers for backup. Honestly, I have nothing good to say about this dealership, I have had an on going issue I've been trying to resolve since October of 2025. When I leased my 2026 Hyundai, The dealership was supposed to pay 3 payments on my prior lease and has failed to do so. In the meantime Hyundai finance is putting me in collections. I've made countless calls to George, Ben, Sam and Jordan and no one will even address my issue. Not only will they not address, I get ZERO return phone calls. DONT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS DEALERSHIP! THEY HAVE ZERO ETHICS AND ARE TOTALLY DISRESPECTFUL TO ELDERS AND WOMEN. The so called sales managers George and Ben are absolutely useless and powerless to help. PS. I am writing to formally complain and demand a review of the unacceptable and retaliatory conduct I experienced at Hyundai Downey, the dealership where I originally leased my vehicle. On the exact day my lease expired, I presented myself at Hyundai Downey to return the vehicle in full compliance with my lease agreement. I arrived at approximately 10:15 a.m. and remained at the dealership until 6:00 p.m., at which point the dealership refused to accept the lease return. The refusal occurred solely because I declined to immediately lease or purchase another vehicle from their inventory. The dealership only had one vehicle available, in a color I did not want. I made it clear that I was willing to remain a Hyundai customer, but preferred to wait until the color I wanted became available. I explicitly stated that I was not in a hurry and asked them to contact me when the desired vehicle arrived. Instead of respecting this decision, the dealership retaliated by refusing to accept my lease return and instructing me to return the vehicle to another dealership. This decision was communicated at 6:00 p.m. on a Friday, despite the dealership being fully aware that Hyundai Motor Finance was closed, effectively preventing me from resolving or escalating the issue that same day. Their excuse was they didn't have space, but a salesperson informed me, quietly and off the record, that the true reason for the refusal was that the sales manager was angry that I did not accept their offer after they had completed paperwork and run my credit. This confirms that the refusal was not based on policy, but on personal frustration and retaliation. As a result of Hyundai Downey's actions: I lost an entire business day I was intentionally placed in a stressful and vulnerable position at lease expiration I was denied my contractual right to return the vehicle at the originating dealership I was treated unprofessionally and coercively After the long weekend, I returned the vehicle to Cardinale Hyundai of El Monte, where the lease return was accepted immediately and without any issue, proving that Hyundai Downey's refusal was unjustified. The vehicle was returned in excellent condition, with: Approximately 27,000 miles out of 30,000 contracted Both original keys Original carpets, unused Hyundai Downey's conduct reflects a dealership willing to pressure customers, retaliate when sales are declined, and disregard basic customer rights. I was fully prepared to lease another Hyundai vehicle, and this experience directly caused Hyundai to lose a loyal customer. read more
