The charbroiled Turkey Burger was ok. It was dry and not assembled like a "normal burger". The turkey patty was dried and lucky they had the minced garlic and pepper sauce to give the turkey some flavor. The hot veggie salad was ok as I was under the impression that the spinach would be sauteed. This place is a favorite for our Aunt and Uncle. The hot pastrami sandwich was ok. I was not sure how to eat the bagel chips that came with the hot veggie salad so I ate it with the minced garlic and pepper sauce. Prices were pricey. I was not impressed. We try to visit DB on Friday nights for Shabbat dinner. Few observations: upside- soups are great, dinners are a complete meal. Downside- waitresses are lazy, don't make eye contact and are dismissive when asking if the meal is coming soon. While we appreciate the sliced challah on the table, any thinner and I'd be able to read through it. Thicker slices would be appropriate. A $3.95 slice of apple cake needs to be twice as thick minus the doily. Waitress check on our empty water glasses---NOPE! We'll be back with more, hopefully positive, observations. read more

I think the majority of low reviews are coming from visitors who can't appreciate this classic margate staple. It isn't trendy or overly friendly. You don't come here to snap Instagram pics. It's a deli offering the classic staples. Menu and interior haven't been updated in at least 20 years. Deal with it or eat elsewhere. Sorry not sorry! I absolutely LOVE coming to downbeach when I'm visiting home. Best Rueben on the island and of course I enjoy the classic breakfast staples on offer. But I never leave without grabbing some goodies from the bakery. The Jewish apple cake is probably my favorite in the world. It's always super moist and very sweet. I also love the rugelach and hamantaschen! If Jewish deli is what you want, you won't leave disappointed. The price tag is hearty but the portions more or less fit the bill. The servers are efficient and pleasant enough but keep your expectations in check. And unlike most Margate eateries, DD has parking! read more

Twice each summer I go to Margate and every morning before I leave this is always my best breakfast. Bagels are large and fluffy and they have the best cream cheese EVER!! There's a waitress that serves my husband and I each time I wish I remembered her name!! She's a slender Latina and she is awesome. I usually never write reviews, but today's dining experience was absolutely horrendous. Our waitress, LeAnn, had little to no motivation to properly greet us, to answer questions, and overall seemed annoyed to be serving us and others around our section (a table would ask her for items and she would walk away before they even finished request). She even at one point put our check directly on top of the bread basket, while there was still bread in it. We also asked a busser for another set of silverware since we were a party of three and sat down with two, and were handed the silverware with a dirty napkin. Regarding food, the bread basket was cold despite asking for toasted items (i.e. toast, bagels). I specifically asked for a bagel to not be toasted and it came toasted. The omelette we ordered had little to no pork roll in it as well. To top it off, the restaurant charges 3.99% for any transactions (including debit, which is not legal according to Merchant Cost Consulting and NJ's AB284). Our family has been coming here for 40+ years, and it is such a shame at how poor this experience was. We live nearby during the summer months and have been coming here for 20 years. On Monday late-afternoon, I had the worst imaginable dinner special. The roasted chicken is usually $17.99 like the other early-bird menu items. This time it was a special at $13.99. It was old, dry, and scary. It was breaded, and looked fried, but it was not according to the waitress, who answered immediately as she likely had the question before. This GRAY COLORED MEAT chicken was obviously left over from the weekend. It should not had been served; it should have been trashed on Monday morning. I did not get sick, but I am definitely not coming back this summer until I can get the experience out of my memory. Oh yes, they charge for credit cards which is incredibly annoying. read more

It's been awhile since I've been to a restaurant that was so brazen in displaying how much they cut corners. Received bacon that is clearly the pre-cooked kind that someone just microwaved. And challah French toast thinner than a standard slice of sandwich bread, it was nearly shaved in in some parts. $6.50 for a ~2oz cup of what appeared to be several days old fruit salad. How this place sustains any kind of business from anything beyond maybe the small flicker of nostalgia the locals have for it is beyond me. This place has been here forever. Think old school Jewish deli dinner... so u can always get a side of apple sauce or latke on the menu too. It's ok, the old school feel is cool but the corn beef sandwich is just ok and will hit the spot, but you won't be craving it when you leave. Food was outstanding-- little Jewish deli and great service-- reasonable prices. I am celiac and they have gf toast and bagels and a dedicated toaster and section on the menu with gf choices. They are well trained with celiac. They even bring pickles to the table that are gf-soooo good. I had a tongue sandwich on gf bread-- it was epic!! I had home fries that they said were coooked on a separate section of the grill. I did not get sick at all. They also were having such a hard time pricing it (even though ham is an add on on their menu?) and they charged us for "extra meat" and it's just one piece of ham cut in half. Just left and both my daughter and I got sick immediately Def food poisoning ! Fierce vomiting and diarrhea. I had a bagel with lox tomato and cream cheese and she has a bagel with whitefish salad tomato and provolone and matzah ball soup. We both had pickles from the pickle tray. I called to speak with a manager to let them know and was brushed off with them saying they've been serving those items all day and there's a virus going around. I'm a health educator and this is food poisoning. Told her that and that she needs to do a super clean of kitchen and check for contamination and the source. Great location in Margate, super service, great Jewish deli, all in a very open and airy environment in which to grab a really good meal to feed your soul. They even let our pup in with us and accommodated our dietary requests without batting an eye! Our waitress GINA has been our server the last couple of times and she is sooo knowledgeable of the menu and super friendly!!! After the meal, we made our way over to the deli counter and got some homemade (very low sodium) rotisserie sliced turkey breast to go along with a bit of house made sliced roast beef. Awesome quality and taste! Buddy was great and he helped me at the deli counter - he answered all of my sodium questions with ease and was happy to do it! This time I ordered the half roasted chicken and it must have been done or heated in a fryer, not a roaster. The skin was crispy but so dried out I couldn't chew it.
