Even though you know I love Petula Clark, I really don't like to go "Downtown". And that's not a euphemism. Or maybe it is. In any event, I had a professional development event at the Down Town Association and it was okay. Conveniently located right across from the Pine St entrance to the Wall St 2/3 train station, this is a beautiful old building with a stunning staircase. My meeting room was on the 3rd floor and I got to peek into some of the rooms/salons on my way up. Some gorgeous sitting rooms, library-type rooms..very old school. The meeting room was comfortable, a little old and worn, but nice enough. They had sandwiches, which were okay. The only problem was there were no napkins. Am I supposed to wipe my mouth or hands on my pants? I mean, I'd expect that in Philadelphia, but in NYC? Come on. Again, I don't like going downtown because it takes forever to get there (like 20 minutes!) but if there were another meeting here, I'd go because this is a cool spot.

We were invited here for the 18th annual Sailor's Ball by our friends at Versace. The building is an amazing structure tucked into Pine St and has fantastic architecture throughout. We were greeted upon entering and, after taking some red carpet shots, allowed to explore the various, themed rooms on the first 3 floors. Since we had invites to the pre-ball dinner we made our way to the Mount Gay themed room and grabbed a few cocktails and then waited for our friends to arrive. The dinner was served by a very attentive and courteous staff and consisted of mushroom risotto appetizer, veal piccata main course and tiramisu for dessert. Mark LoPresti, who was chairing the ball, even brought out vintage wines from his own cellar which were great, particularly the Valpolicella. After dinner they had several rooms playing different styles of music to dance to and a casino themed room with the proceeds going to charity. All in all it was a great night at a historic venue and for a good cause.

My head was on a SWIVEL ready for someone bursting through a door with an axe. I was completely lost looking for "Room #4," and began to spiral. I soon realized that I just took the wrong elevator, and found the room pretty easy once I took the correct elevator lol. Once I gathered my composure and found Room #4, I could finally appreciate how stunningly beautiful this place was. It is like an Oligarch's MANSION straight from the 19th century. It's tasteful luxury, when luxury meant more than just cookie cutter modern architecture. They had an open bar and some bomb horderves all night, with my favorite being this fresh tuna on top of a cucumber. I ate like 30 of them. Me and the lady in a tuxedo walking around with the tray became well acquainted. I honestly have no real idea what this place is, but I imagine it's a members only club where the rich and famous gather to make important decisions. That's the vibe at least. Kinda eerie. Most of the portraits are available for purchase unless a red dot is displayed. I was especially impressed with any wall art relating to food.   Besides portraits, there are other works of art to view such as sculptures and statues. Members and non members are entitled to use the library facility. Everyone is welcome to peruse the plentiful variety of books. All publications must  be read on site because they cannot be checked out. If you don't feel like reading, there is also more art to view in the study. The museum has limited afternoon hours, but if you stick around past the closing time, food and drink will be available for purchase at the dining facility and bar. The dining area also has a few billiard tables. Donations are not required, but highly appreciated.   I highly recommend exploring this gallery for a taste of art history.   #salmagundiclub #salmagundiartgallery #greenwichvillage #salmagundiportraits #moneyartdonations

I was a guest of a member during the 18-inch snow storm, so I wore my $500 dollar suede Danner lights (Made in the USA) to manage the snow. Upon entry, I was informed by the staff that, due to the suede being too light, it looked too much like Timberland boots, which are banned. I was professionally whisked to a backroom, where I was offered to wear black loafers 3 sizes too large if I wanted to make my appointment. I spent the rest of my time skipping through the venue in order to not trip over myself, wearing massively oversized shoes. I would have been okay with this footwear restriction if it was universally enforced, but there were plenty of people in the club wearing duck boots, metal hook leather hiking boots, and even the same type of boots of a slightly darker shade. Apparently, the shoe shade restriction was not something members are aware about (the no sneakers restriction is well known). I have previously been a guest here with positive experiences. However, today I was put in an illogically unsafe experience, forced to wear loaner shoes 3 sizes too large, because $500 lighter suede boots are deemed less classy than duck boots for being too"Timberland like" during a snow storm.
