I was a guest of a member during the 18-inch snow storm, so I wore my $500 dollar suede Danner lights (Made in the USA) to manage the snow. Upon entry, I was informed by the staff that, due to the suede being too light, it looked too much like Timberland boots, which are banned. I was professionally whisked to a backroom, where I was offered to wear black loafers 3 sizes too large if I wanted to make my appointment. I spent the rest of my time skipping through the venue in order to not trip over myself, wearing massively oversized shoes. I would have been okay with this footwear restriction if it was universally enforced, but there were plenty of people in the club wearing duck boots, metal hook leather hiking boots, and even the same type of boots of a slightly darker shade. Apparently, the shoe shade restriction was not something members are aware about (the no sneakers restriction is well known). I have previously been a guest here with positive experiences. However, today I was put in an illogically unsafe experience, forced to wear loaner shoes 3 sizes too large, because $500 lighter suede boots are deemed less classy than duck boots for being too"Timberland like" during a snow storm.

And not half-assed classy like when you wear clip on suspenders with your suit, but full on classy like when you get your shoes shined right after a haircut and you're wearing a brand new tie, from a real department store (not TJ Maxx). The entry hall is lovely and the room we were in, which was downstairs, was very cool. Deep red walls, dark carpeting, big furniture, lots of paintings on the wall....it was very calm and respectable. The staff were all extremely courteous and professional. The event itself was incredible....I enjoyed meeting several of my favorite crime/mystery authors including Lee Child, John Connolly, F Paul Wilson and Michael Connelly. What a treat to get my book signed by these and many other fabulous authors. The upsides: --Reasonable rates for being within a stone's throw of Rockefeller Plaza. --Everyone working the front desk seemed to love my pink winter coat. It was decorated nicely with paintings and rare editions of books contained in a small library used also as a conference room. I was there for a Meet and Greet" Cinco Del Mayo night to consider becoming a member. The members were friendly. However, there was no restaurant on the premises. They do cater some of their events up to about 42 people. I was told you can bring your own food in if you desire to. Also, they had a beautiful bar but no liquor license or bartender. The policy was bring your own bottle and use the glassware provided and be responsible for washing whatever used which I feel creates unsanitary conditions in this day and age of viruses going around. Also, there was no check room and attendant to secure your coat (in cool and inclement weather) or valuables. There wasn't any staff present only the members. If accepted as a member after filing an application and going through a formal interview your spouse wasn't able to use your benefits. He or she would be treated as an ordinary guest. The dues are reasonable and there is an initiation fee. There were only a few young members there and mostly single senior citizens filled the rooms. I did not see any couples present. 2 small phone booths were provided to use your phone so the other members would not be disturbed. There is a small area with a beautiful pool table there for members to shoot. There is no receptionist or security upon entrance. A member would have a fob or phone app to gain entrance into the building and take the elevator to the third floor. There are weekly events scheduled, free and paid. I went for the membership interview and was denied membership. Maybe it was because I spoke my mind and asked some concerning questions since I have been a member of 2 other social clubs that offered much more to their members and their partners.

What a melodic way to honor John Coltrane's Centennial by celebrating 100 years of the legendary…read moresaxophonist & composer's life. I've loved all things Coltrane for as long as I can remember. His music was the soundtrack of my childhood & my introduction to jazz & the blues. So, while planning my return to NYC, I made sure to find a jazz club where I could experience his legacy. That led me to Dizzy's Club at Lincoln Center for A Masterful Tribute to Trane: Roxy Coss Quartet. I'll admit, I hesitated at the $60 cover & $20 minimum. Yet my server, Nidia, was amazingly engaging, & the seamless hospitality throughout, led by GM Raymond, was impressive. Most importantly, the extraordinary music made it worth every penny. The John Coltrane Centennial Celebration was nothing short of transcendent. Honoring Coltrane's iconic "Classic Quartet" era, saxophonist Roxy Coss led a powerhouse ensemble featuring Geoffrey Keezer on piano, James Cammack on bass, & Rudy Royston on drums. Together, they balanced fierce modal intensity with profound spiritual depth. Keezer's captivating commentary connected the music to Coltrane's history & legacy, while the musicians brought that history vividly to life. I especially appreciated the reflection on Coltrane's composition Alabama, written in response to the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing. Artist Insights *Roxy Coss; Saxophones & Clarinet: Commanded the front line with muscular tenor solos & soaring soprano lines that captured Coltrane's questing spirit without merely imitating him. *Geoffrey Keezer; Piano: Followed his historical introductions with thunderous block chords & explosive modal runs. *James Cammack; Bass: The Ahmad Jamal Trio veteran anchored the ensemble with a deep, resonant pulse & commanding presence. & a gentle note: JC performs with a walker, yet his passion for playing remains unmistakably powerful. I love seeing that kind of dedication to the music. *Rudy Royston; Drums: Fueled the quartet with polyrhythmic fury & an exhilarating, Elvin Jones-inspired drive. The intimate space & ambience were supremely curated - pun intended: A Love Supreme. Great Jazz at the Lincoln Center & a salute to Artistic Director Wynton Marsalis for helping sustain this extraordinary jazz tradition. A triumphant & unforgettable homage to jazz royalty - TRANE, encore. I plan on visiting Dizzy's every time I return to NYC.
