What a melodic way to honor John Coltrane's Centennial by celebrating 100 years of the legendary saxophonist & composer's life. I've loved all things Coltrane for as long as I can remember. His music was the soundtrack of my childhood & my introduction to jazz & the blues. So, while planning my return to NYC, I made sure to find a jazz club where I could experience his legacy. That led me to Dizzy's Club at Lincoln Center for A Masterful Tribute to Trane: Roxy Coss Quartet. I'll admit, I hesitated at the $60 cover & $20 minimum. Yet my server, Nidia, was amazingly engaging, & the seamless hospitality throughout, led by GM Raymond, was impressive. Most importantly, the extraordinary music made it worth every penny. The John Coltrane Centennial Celebration was nothing short of transcendent. Honoring Coltrane's iconic "Classic Quartet" era, saxophonist Roxy Coss led a powerhouse ensemble featuring Geoffrey Keezer on piano, James Cammack on bass, & Rudy Royston on drums. Together, they balanced fierce modal intensity with profound spiritual depth. Keezer's captivating commentary connected the music to Coltrane's history & legacy, while the musicians brought that history vividly to life. I especially appreciated the reflection on Coltrane's composition Alabama, written in response to the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing. I had a super fun solo dinner date at Dizzy's Club! It's a bit hard to find -- you have to go up an elevator right inside the Columbus Circle shopping mall -- but well worth the trip. I arrived shortly before showtime and was able to snag a last-minute seat at the bar. The acoustics and views are wonderful in the venue. Plus, nothing beats really good live music. It was packed when I was there on a Sunday night, but it felt cozy rather than crowded. Be aware that there is a food and drink minimum included with your ticket. I wasn't in a drinking mood, so I enjoyed a mocktail and an appetizer, plus the cornbread to go. Buying tickets in advance is recommended. I got lucky that it wasn't full. My son and I went here for dinner and a jazz show. The venue is right across from an entrance to Central Park. The view out of the windows of the skyline was also a great plus. THe jazz music was excellent and we had a great time. The show was only 1 hour so that seemed a little short... but it was advertised that way. I guess maybe i just wanted it to go on for longer. The club is essentially a restaurant with a stage. There's both bar seating and table seating, which you choose when purchasing tickets. Tables are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis; we sat right in front of the stage. For the 7 pm show, doors open at 6 so you can be seated and order dinner. Guests were lining up as early as 5:45. The show itself was fantastic. We were so impressed by the musicians. The set was about one hour long. The food was okay. The menu is Southern-themed. We had the gumbo, which was good but underseasoned. The sides were a mixed bag: the Brussels sprouts were well-cooked but not as crispy as they could have been, the fries were solid, but the cornbread was hard and stale. All in all, a very fun night out in NYC. So worth it for the music! read more

Came here for a 9pm show on a Friday and had such a lovely time. The view behind the quartet is beautiful and the performance itself was phenomenal. The performance was about an hour and a half and flew by. We got a bottle of the riesling which was incredibly delicious and a great way to hit the $25 minimum. We were wanting to check out a jazz club while in New York City and Dizzy's Jazz club in Lincoln Center kept coming up. Dizzy's Club offers live jazz performances with panoramic views of the Manhattan skyline, a warm ambiance, and a delicious seasonal menu. So we decided to go to this location as they have a dinner service before the show and it was close to our hotel and Central Park. They had a 7 and 9 pm showing and we went to the earlier one. When you arrive at the building you take the elevator up to the 7th floor. You have the option to check your coat before entering the club where the hostess will seat you at a table in the dining area. The tables are set up right in front of the stage and there is a great view behind the stage. I started my meal with the High-Hat Hibiscus with Del Maguey Vida Mezcal, Cointreau, Green Chartreuse, Hibiscus, Lime Juice, Mint. I was happy to see a cocktail with mezcal as this was not easy to find in NY. I enjoyed the cocktail so much that I had another. We ordered the roasted branzino for our entree that comes with Beurre rouge sauce confit potatoes and charred broccolini. I wanted to sub the confit potatoes for the crispy Brussel sprouts because I didn't want to have carbs which I was originally told by the waiter that it would not be a problem. Then she came back out and told me that they did not have enough to serve outside of what is served with the dinner entree. I did not understand this as it is offered as a side item on the menu. The manager came out to explain this to me but it was very disappointing after being told that it would not be an issue. I ended up getting the sweet potato gratin instead which actually turned out to be very good. The branzino was cooked with the skin on and was very flavorful with the beurre rouge sauce. I enjoyed the sides very much. Overall the food was better than I expected, however just didn't feel like a valued customer the way the Brussels sprouts were handled. Then had another issue when the hostess set two other people at our table that were strangers which would have been understandable except for the fact that there was an empty table right by us where they could have been seated. My suggestion would be to communicate this better or ask for customer preferences before just randomly seating people at a table with other patrons seated at it. The jazz band was very impressive with many talented musicians. They had instrument solos featuring some strong performances. For this price point, I felt like the Brussels sprout and seating issue diminished our overall experience. read more

They book a wide variety of jazz genres. Food is decent - you can have dinner - but not the main draw. Tips for first time: your "ticket" is really just prepaying a cover charge. Seating is first come first served in the category you choose (tables or bar) - so if you want to get best seats, arrive and queue up before door opening time. You simply check in at the desk at entry by name. There is a dedicated elevator in the shops at Columbus place mall - if you enter center of the mall, they are to the right. Came here for a concert during December on a weekday. To my surprise for a Monday night the place was pretty packed. The good: scenic location with nice views The not so good: the check-in should get with the times. Have actual tickets that can be scanned and two separate lines between coat check and check in, it wasn't a very long line but the time standing in line for a not long line was unnecessary. seating if you don't have a table is very awkward. You're required to spend + $ 22 on top of your ticket on food/drinks. So you're looking at $200+ might for 2 people. It's a limited menu, I got a burger and fries that I asked to be cooked medium rare and was well done and the fries were not to my liking with some of the potato skin on every fry. My husband's po boy was equally average. Trying to eat your food while watching the show is a pain because the table is behind you, on top of that I had waiters/waitresses constantly running into my leg. We had a spectacular evening at Dizzy's. We purchased tickets for a table in advance, otherwise it seems like if you try to buy the evening of, you won't have much luck. The venue is located on the 5th Fl of the shops at Columbus circle. There are special elevators to take you up to Dizzy's. You line up downstairs and one hour before the show you are permitted to head upstairs to begin the dinner service. Upstairs there is a coat check you can use. Then you are taken to your seat. The earlier you show up, the better chance for a good seat. We were seated in the front row right by the stage. Our server Eliana was great! We had a few drinks and some apps and an entree each. We shared a cheese plate and an apricots and arugula salad, plus the fried pickles! For an entree we each had the vegan jambalaya (it is the only vegan/vegetarian entree option). All food hit it out of the park. The drinks were good and not so strong (a good thing!). I had a gin fizz and a dizzy 75. My friend had an AM sour and a glass of Cabernet. The tables were spaced an appropriate amount apart so you did not feel like you were on top of people the whole night. Entertainment was spectacular! I wish the show was longer. There are two bathrooms in the club and at times a line did build up but it wasn't that long of a wait. Forgot to mention the best part -the incredible views all night long! You have a clear view looking out onto Columbus Circle all evening. This is truly one of those special NY venues that you must try. I'm sure any show would be great here. read more

This is a beautiful jazz club, with great ambience, more space than pretty much all the jazz clubs I've been to, great sound, fabulous views of the stage, and huge windows that overlook Central Park, right behind the stage. I had exceptional service sitting at the bar, and my bar seat was comfortable and had an unobstructed view of the stage. The food and cocktails were fine, but clearly the music is the main event. The crowd there seemed a little low energy versus some of the other jazz clubs I've been to in Manhattan but I'm not sure if it was just an off night (it WAS a Monday, after all). Even though at one point in my life I identified as a professional jazz musician and I live three blocks away, last Sunday was my first visit to Dizzy's Club. I went there to hear my lifelong friend perform a couple of sets. As I suspected, the music was incredible. What I didn't expect was how wonderful the club would be. Obviously, the location is so ideal, you have to wonder how Jazz can afford it, but once you get past wondering how they afford the rent, you settle in, relax, and marvel at how comfortable everything is. The stage with its Columbus Circle backdrop is stunning. The room is elegant and intimate. My only criticism of the food is that I would have liked a larger portion. If they ever offer bottomless gumbo, I will move in. Basically, I loved everything about Dizzy's Club. It is refreshing to see an art form as important to American culture as jazz is being presented in a venue with the gravitas and respect as it deserves. read more
