Life-long issues include sinus troubles, a "rather severely deviated" septum diagnosed 20 years ago, and a diagnosis at that same time of vertigo, something I still struggle with. I found the doctor condescending and uninterested in what I had to say. All he wanted to do was look in my nose, and after he did, he said he couldn't find any evidence of my bloody nose and that I should come in the next time I have a nose bleed. I'll note that I called his office for an appointment after my nose bled so badly during an easy run that I was covered in blood. I felt like a character from a horror movie trying to wash it all off when I got home. I was scared because I'd never had a nose bleed this bad before. He said I should avoid nasal breathing, especially when I'm running, and I didn't even get a chance to say that nasal breathing is highly recommended by just about every source out there as being healthier. He wanted me to have allergy tests and, although he saw my swollen nasal turbinates and my deviated septum, he didn't think I needed to do anything about these except use a saline nasal spray. No follow up planned except he wanted me to have allergy tests, which I've had before. He said he was running late, and overall I felt like he didn't care to learn anything about me, a new patient. If you don't care to be listened to, I'm sure he's a fine doctor. But I expect more, and being hurried along in my first exam with a new doctor because he was running late is not my idea of a good start. I pay a lot of attention to my health, and am a competitive athlete, something I began in my mid-40's. I continue to compete in my late 60's. I expect more of my health care providers than he provided. I did start using the nasal spray he recommended. I won't be going back.
